Mina the Hollower, 31 Oct 2025, PC//PS5//Switch//Xbox

Well this is kind of annoying. You need to either buy the Switch 1 or the Switch 2 version. Obviously the Switch 1 version will work on S2, but it won't be at 4k or 120fps.

This seems like a Nintendo limitation. I can't imagine Yacht Club making this an intentional choice for consumers. I'd love to be able to buy the Switch 2 version, but then let my buddy play it on my Switch 1 he's borrowing.

yeah, indie developers collectively had some kind of weird developing moment as a kid when they saw rescue rangers or something

can't begin to imagine how effed up those whose are little kids now will turn out with current day media

not crazy about hollow knight but as a Link's Awakening enthusiast, I will give the demo a whirl

Not that hyped after the demo honestly. Its cool to have a modern GBC game and I will for sure get it eventually. But nothing about it was all that fun. Everything seemed just okay, but its of course just the very, very beginning.

Played the demo, it was well made overall. I like how they dynamically adjust the music when you enter places (already did this in Shovel Knight).

But still not a fan of the visuals. I get that developers are free to do whatever they feel like, but this is basically GBC but when the constraints were too annoying they simply ignored them. Way too many instances where there are more than 4 colors on a tile. I mean, make a GBC game are make entirely something else, no ? Emulators exist to package and release games on modern consoles.

Also too many different palettes at once on screen, it becomes bloated. Shovel Knight was also "kind of" using 4 colors palettes, but there was an overall consistency to the scenery so everything that was important popped-out quickly. Here, you have to analyze every tile to understand what it is supposed to be and if/how you can interact with it. Could be better. And developing on an actual GBC would have naturally helped mitigating this problem.

I just received a Kickstarter update that they're not going to make the Oct 31 release date. Here's update #49:

This week, our team made a tough decision: we decided to delay Mina the Hollower. The entire crew has been working tirelessly day and night to finish development for release on Oct 31st, but we're just not quite there yet. This isn't a major delay, it's just a stretch of time to apply some final polish and balancing to make the game truly shine.

With that said, we would like to apologize! Nevertheless, we will not waver on our commitment to quality. Our goal is to make sure our development team has the time and resources to deliver an incredible adventure and we will be giving you just that. That's no hollow promise!

We don't want to announce another release date until it's submitted to platforms, so please hang tight as we reach the finish line.

The game is so close to being done- we're playing it from start to finish every day. In the final hours, this is what the crew is working on:

  • Finalizing design, art, and sound
  • Overall game balancing
  • Implementing localization
  • Eating cheese
  • Testing, testing, testing… on all platforms!
Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Sincerely,

The Yacht Club Games crew

Rather a good finished delayed game as I enjoyed the hell out of the demo. Also the demo updated though I have no idea why.

Controls and gameplay are not intuitive. At least not in the way Shovel Knight was. I'm a huge fan of everything yacht club has done to this point and the demo for Mina did nothing for me.
