Get a creative or marketing job, we get paid insane, none of us work “set hours”, we all work when there is work to do, and we don’t when there isn’t :).

I got a marketing degree in 09 and never found shit for it. If you got any openings, I'm all ears. Went to teach in China for 9 years in 2010, came back before the pandemic and now I'm in the IT industry. but yea, you got openings in what I actually went to school for and I'm all ears. lol

What's the dumbest ticket you've gotten? One of my top ten is "how do I make my mouse stop making the clicking noise"

I used to get tickets from the helpdesk for purchasing IT equipment at a large corp. I had some blinders.

One guy requested that he was given an internal DVD drive (They were expensive at the time) and speakers so he could "Urgently"watch a free promotional DVD he was given by a client. I closed the ticket with "Just take it home and watch it".

Then when we were replacing PC's or for new hires the new ones were black and the old ones were cream. As soon as any department got just one of the new black PCs there would be lots of tickets from that department requesting a new PC because their PC was running too slow to do their work. The thing was that the new PC's were actually a lower spec than the old ones. So they would not fix their "Problem".

Lol it do be that way. It's funny what correlations users make. Also I swear COVID causes amnesia. I was doing help desk last March when everyone was starting to work remote. We would get the same questions from the same people week after week. That included people that were used to working remotely before quarantine

Todayi had a woman that was still using internet explorer as the default browser and she didn't know how to change it. She already had chrome and edge on the system. How's that?!

That’s why I switched jobs. I had days where I would go into the men’s restroom and about pass out because of boredom. It wasn’t even about being productive, it was just killing me on the inside. There’s a point where you’re just spinning your wheels and you aren’t learning anymore in that role. That’s at least where I started to see the problem. There are a lot of choices in the IT field. I realize some people never want to leave that initial role, but the growth can be amazing.

I remember this one time our supervisor told us to go home. I ended up getting this lecture by HR because I documented it on my time sheet that the office was closed. I would go for walks at lunch just to collect myself. Beyond that, our Director was never at the office. He was mostly hands off the actual IT. Good luck seeing him on a Friday. I didn’t like that for some reason. It was like he was too good for the IT work. He was a good man and he’s a hard worker.. I had days where all the “good times” felt like they were over with. It was depressing. When I switched to network installation, it changed everything. I get to configure and install equipment, meet my clients face to face, and I assist with all the critical IT tickets. It’s a lot more work. I’ve had some 7 PM work nights due to the advancement, but I also don’t have those days where I want to curl up somewhere and go to sleep because I’m bored. I’ve been done at work by 3 some days because I put in the hours or I finished the job.

I hate having to be at the office when nothing is going on. Like damn, it's Friday at 3:23 and we haven't had a help desk ticket in 4 hours. let me go home and sleep :messenger_downcast_sweat::messenger_pensive:. All I can hope for is the boss leaves early and then I'm outta here.
Help desk ticket means you work in software.

Why can’t you work from home on a Friday, wtf?

Office gets a bad rap. I worked for a big property investment company a few years back and I can say it was the funniest 3 years I've ever had. Sadly every one since has been cunty open plan. Cubicles were never a thing in the UK, but fuck me, I'd rather have a cubicle then open plan. Snitches everywhere.

Guess they need to hit quantam matrix. So no one has to sit in the office. Do developers like programming games anymore?

I’m an engineer. Systems engineer basically overall design and development of complex systems.
I'm a bit envious of my colleague at work; he started his training at our company around the same time as me, I now have a title you could probably translate as IT specialist, he learned a career you could translate as informations technician; where in our specific company, he was basically repairing copying systems. But even before he finished his career, he transitioned to another department, where he almost exclusively develops ELO ECM solutions for our clients.

Long story short, last year during the height of the pandemic, he fucked off to his home office for like half of the year, while I still had to come in to the office most of the time, because there were PCs to setup or clients that needed visiting. Apart from that, I'm sure it was also because while I have the full trust of my bosses, my other colleague is a lazy bastard who has super bad work ethics, and nobody was trusting him to let him "work" from home, which he would of course have demanded had I switched to working from the home office :/

I could probably move into the ECM field myself, and do more home office, but at the moment, I feel much more comfortable doing 1st and 2nd level support than having to constantly meet with customers that are paying six figures for a document management system. And I'm still earning more money than my colleague, heh.
