I loved the OVA's and the movies back in the day. But I don't think I have ever really bothered with the anime series, or the Manga it was all derived from. I mean, this does look interesting to me. I'll keep my eye on it.

Patlabor is rad, loved how they did the mech controls with the different modes for standard movement and different controls for fine finger movement to disarm bombs and shit. But this looks low budget low effort. And why couldn't it have manga or anime aesthetics instead of plain 90s cg like🤷‍♂️

Gundam detective game?

Looking at what is there, it just seems to recreate scenarios from the Patlabor series. Mostly from the Movies/ OVA series, it seems. No signs of any of the human characters from the series. It just seems to be various mech combat set pieces. Which could be interesting. What is here does not look like it's a high budget game. The ideal Patlabor game would be to have a mix of character driver detective story elements outside of the mechs and combat scenes inside of the mechs.

Man, I love the mech designs in Patlabor but this game looks like PS2 quality shit...

I'll still keep an eye on it though.

We are so back.

Honestly, the original Patlabor crew was just on another level. Every single character had such a distinct vibe that made them feel unique. I seriously doubt this new generation is going to come anywhere close to the OG Section 2 legends.

PATLABOR the Case Files will come to PC and PS5 in Summer 2026.

Relive numerous iconic scenes from "Mobile Police Patlabor" in this home console 3D action game.Play from different perspectives— Main Missions as Special Vehicle Section 2, and Another Side Missions as their adversaries.Over 20 Labors appear in the game Master everything from the Ingram to the Griffon and Type Zero Includes Simulator Mode where you can engage in shooting practice and Labor-vs-Labor combat.

Love Patlabor but this looks like shit.
Remove the IP and it looks like some random single dev asset flip on steam

Why dredge up a beloved 90s mecha manga IP if the goal was simply to make some Jank ass fuck trash?

Once you look up the publisher you'll realize why it's low budget:

They're one of the few Japanese publishers who are stuck in this weird limbo of still making games that look like they belong on the PSVita (or at best Switch 1) even though the vita died a long time ago.

I wonder if they'll encounter a tough time once we are in the full-on Switch 2/PS6/Xbox Helix generation.

Edit: Nothing personally against Spike Chunsoft. I think they make fun games. But they don't have the shield of 'indie' around them so they tend to take flack for their very low budget endeavors.

As much as I love PATLABOR most anime licence games just not all that great.

So far Armored Core is the only mecha game for me.
