Just for some more context: As Meduza implies, LifeNews heavily featured the wedding in its coverage. LifeNews is part of the private National Media Group whose chairwoman is Alina Kabaeva, Putin's alleged girlfriend. He is said to have a relationship with Kabaeva since at least 2008, when he was technically still married to his wife Lyudmila until they announced their separation in 2014.

Elena Milashina and Novaya Gazeta have not been able to get the answers to questions that began asking two weeks ago: is bigamy allowed on the territory of the Russian Federation (more specifically, in Chechnya) despite the fact that it is technically prohibited by law, and what are the circumstances under which a young woman who has just turned 17 can marry? Rather than getting to the bottom of these issues, Ramzan Kadyrov, Lifenews, and state officials have succeeded in turning the public’s attention towards the topics of child marriage and Caucasian tradition. Thanks to efforts from Kadyrov, this has become a celebrity wedding.

I learn from this paper that Putin allows (or can't do shit against) radical Islam gaining ground in his country. I'd like to know what far right parties in Europe, aka Russia's most vocal supporters there, think about this.

Putin isn't down with polygamy as much as Kadyrov has a lot of power and Putin being afraid what would happen if he doesn't appease him. Chechnya is very volatile state and Kadyrov gets away with a lot of shit. See also the investigation regarding Nemtsov's murder, where two Chechens are the prime suspects.
