“The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman has inked an overall deal with Amazon, while Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment has signed a first-look deal with the streamer, Variety has learned.

Kirkman and Skybound will develop television projects to debut exclusively on Prime Video. Skybound Entertainment’s co-presidents of film and television, Bryan and Sean Furst, will oversee the Amazon project slate in conjunction with Kirkman and Skybound co-founder David Alpert.

Skybound Entertainment currently has a number of different film projects in development including properties for their two-year first look deal with Universal. The company also recently announced its expansion with the opening of Skybound North, a Vancouver-based production division. Skybound North is led by former LucasFilm Animation executive, Catherine Winder.

I wonder if this was timed to coincide with Netflix's Millarworld deal or whether this is just a symptom of everyone wanting a piece of the comic book pie?

I'd be a bit shocked if this isn't what the deal is leading to. Marvel's Netflix shows have done rather well, and something like Invincible would be right up that alley.

I believe that's the Universal project the final paragraph talks about, but who knows with Hollywood. Haven't heard of it in a while

Not just comics. Skybound is reportedly working on an adaptation of the video game Oxenfree, for example.

Yes, it could be great, but the budget would need to be quite high for many episodes. I'd rather see it as a series than as a movie, assuming they were able to give it a decent budget.

To be fair, Amazon is already heavily invested in the comic market, as they own the largest and de facto digital comics platform.
