Top 15 for all systems numbers...

Even though GBA outsold Xbox and PS2 combined, it brought in less than a third of the software revenue. GBA + GCN software was less than Xbox software.

Average 154,876 $6,689,962

Xbox

Average 134,123 $5,848,928

GBA
Total 1,669,311 $49,642,694
Average 111,287 $3,309,513

That's a point worth emphasizing when people here drone on and on (and on) about how wonderful the handheld market is. It may wonderful and great, but it is a niche market compared to console and PC gaming -- it's almost impossible to make any money in it unless you're knocking off cheap licensed games THQ-style. That may change next gen, but I doubt it.

Pokemon Ruby: 652,595 (March 2003)
Pokemon Sapphire: 585,098 (March 2003)
Pokemon Fire Red: 684,283 (September 2004)
Pokemon Leaf Green: 556,065 (September 2004)
Pokemon RuSa: 1,237,693
Pokemon FiLe: 1,240,348

FiLe barely beat RuSa, but it took much longer to do so. Keep in mind that Pokemon RuSa were available for a shorter time period in its first NPD coverage period than FiLe.

true, but also take into account that Pokemon games are perennial sellers, the Madden's and GTA's of the handheld world...

Pokemon RuSa had been doing in the 100,000 region the last few months (even beating Halo sometimes), and they around another 50,000 last month in spite of Pokemon FiLe's release...

RuSa was also the first Pokemon Advance game, so it was probably more anticipated...

That said, Pokemon FiLe's release so close to the holidays should really help it...

Definitely. I think the GBASP launch propelled Pokemon RuSa, while FiLe was driven by a GBASP price cut and good advertising. Either way, FiLe is on its way to three million within the next few months.

You guys do know life exists out of the top 15, right :)

GBA Total 3,066,189
GCN Total 1,585,589
PS2 Total 5,977,462
XBX Total 3,496,369

Alot of publishers are making alot of money on the GBA. It's cheap and the right titles will sell forever. THQ and Nintendo are just doing the best job at exploiting it. Vivendi has had significant success as well.

Don't forget that the development costs for the average gba game are much much less than the average console game. I read a $500,000 figure vs. in the multiple millions for the average console game. There's a reason why so much shovelware gets published for gba. :)

ATLUS

XBX GALLEON $48,387 1,222

Too sad this beautiful game is getting ignored for its poor graphics :( Does anybody have august numbers? Last month I didn't see any Altus sales # on the forum.

Speaking of Konami

What happened here?

PS2 SILENT HILL 4: ROOM $2,388,657 60,163
XBX SILENT HILL 4: ROOM $1,530,696 38,537

They did a lot better with just SRS.

PS2 GRADIUS V $382,391 12,296

I bet they woulda sold just as many at full retail. I like getting games cheap, but the whole budget shooter thing doesn't make much sense to me. It's the same 10k dorks buying them, regardless of the price.

Repeated for emphasis. GBA games may make less raw profits, but it's still a great business to be in when you factor in the low development costs.

Lack of advertising and Namco published SRS.

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
I am amazed by those SRS #'s... I just don't think the game is that good....

I was trying to avoid mentioning them. Didn't wanna get anyone upset. Cuz Sony's just doing it for the kids, y'see.

I was also gonna go on about how shammy Neo Contra's $40 pricetag is, but I guess Shattered Soldier sold pretty well, huh.
