SMB1: Lakitu's Spiny Egg tosses are bugged, supposed to have "physics"

I prefer the old way, kinda forces you to run for the whole level..

Yeah the way it turned out works really well. Playing without running is difficult but when you start running the level it turns into an early version of something like Rayman Origins tricky treasure stages or the chase levels in retros DKC games

I prefer the shipped version. The 'corrected' version has lakitu flinging his first spiny well out of sight of the player, so he spends more time apparently doing nothing, which is not really an improvement.

I do like the impact he has on the final staircase in the corrected version, but that's really about it.

This has literally been known for years. I don't see why OP had to open a new thread for this.

Oh wow! What else have they worked on?

Toshihiko Nakago is the president of Systems Research & Development which programs the 2D Mario and Zelda games since forever. He's a very important part of the team; Iwata refered to him, Miyamoto and Tezuka as the "Golden Triangle". Today Nakago is mainly supervising the 2D Mario and Zelda games.

Kazuaki Morita is another important programmer at SRD. He worked on the programming of the old 2D Mario and the Zelda games. He was the guy that started experimenting with a Game Boy Zelda which led to Link's Awakening being developed. In the more recent Zelda games, he worked as the lead programmer.

Most likely started out as a bug but was not fixed due to design decisions.

Happens way more often than you would believe in game development.

This is what I suspect too. Started as a bug and they kept it as a feature.
