Tell me more.

Depending on Payload you could have 3 separate Boosters landing. Lots of fun then. The higher the payload the less reusability but consider SpaceX says for full reusability they can launch for 90 million dollars.

Delta IV which is similar but no reusability is projected at 375 million per launch. Can see why SpaceX and what they are accomplishing is such a huge deal. They are making Space much cheaper

Been waiting for what feels like 3-4 years now. It seems perpetually a few months away.

Should happen this year. All three boosters have been test fired in the past few months. Musk said building the rocket was a lot more complicated than they thought it would be.

Haha true. But they have actually been testing the core and side boosters. Shotwell said in the Space Show the only thing they really need is the pad.

Yep it comes down to re-enforcement of the core to take the forces of the side boosters. It's pretty much happening - and I suspect around October time.. It'll be serious butt-clenching stuff. 27 engines..

New titanium grid fins worked even better than expected. Should be capable of an indefinite number of flights with no service.

Edit:
All those clouds... very Supermanesque.

Yeah repair work at launch complex 40 needs to be finished then all should be good to go this fall. They have a contract already for an early spring launch. So things should hopefully stay on schedule

They can pretty much use LC39 for FH. (in fact I think it's first flight is scheduled to launch there).

EDIT: Landing replay> https://streamable.com/ntpww

It certainly looked like there was a drop of the rocket after engine cut-off on landing.

"Nobody knew building rockets was so complicated."

But good to hear, let's hope this time is the real deal.

Imagine what you just saw, but with two first stages strapped either side of the main rocket.

Then imagine the three first stages (two side boosters, and core booster) all landing, two on land, and one in the ocean.

Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ca6x4QbpoM (except that this shows three stages returning to launch site.)

Thanks for the explanations guys. Cant wait :D

Well with Heavy we also need to realized that beacuse the F9 has getting more a more powerfull with each revision of the Merlin engine, the need for FH has been shrinking. I don't think it will fly more than 1-2 times per year, and that would be already a lot. Same rate as DIVH.

nekkid

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
Don't think so. IIRC Elon will talk more in depth on this in a couple months.

I'm interested in whether this moon circumnavigation mission will actually take place.

Musk time > Valve time
