"Positive Blu-Ray news? Must shoot it down!"

Edit: Spelling. :(

Do either of you honestly believe that Sony's made calls to publishers like Square, Ubi, Pandemic, & R* saying:

"Guys, could you pump up Blu-Ray and tell everyone how it's allowing you things you never thought possible?"

Do you really think that publishers are such shills when the competative landscape is so advantageous to them?

For the time being, I think the obvious implications of the 360's space limitations are a bad move. Example: If you release any shooter on two platforms in 2007, I can't even foresee a situation in which the PS3 version sells more. It's not like having to make a Gamecube version of something that's going to sell 20K copies. The Wii has completely different graphics. It really is bad business to make the 360 look like the odd console out.

Pretty much everything about Blu-Ray is inherently positive. The real debate is DVD9, and how developers can successfully overcome its space limitations.

Blu Ray is nice because it will allow developers to focus on game content, rather than thinking "Oh shit is this compressed enough so it'll fit on one DVD." More time working on games and less time worrying about compression equals more time on content and the potential for a better game.

I wish there were more xbots like you bob....you seem very down to earth....

At the end of the day, Sony, MS and yes, even Nintendo are releasing consoles with a list of pros *AND* cons...

Which is which seems to be determined by which side of the fence you sit on.....

PS-Crabs for massive damage

Its anti-sony damage control. get used to it.

Bob's not a bot. He is so fair that everyone accuses him of flip flopping.

Wait 3 minutes. Bob is actually a host of like 40 posters. And they run the gambit.

He's known as the schizophrenic John Kerry around here, because he shows completely contradictory enthusiasm every other post :D

But, it does make it impossible to combat him. Like nailing jello to a tree....

:lol

Still better than the "alternative", though......

-SMALL=Xbox 360 7GB DVD ROM

-MEDIUM=Wii 8.5GB DVD ROM

-LARGE=PS3 25/50GB BR ROM

I don't think we actually know much about the Wii's storage medium, other than the "12 cm disc" on their site, do we?

In any case, that's a pretty wacky soft drink order considering the Wii would probably be okay with the Gamecube's discs again. More like Small, slightly less small, JUMBO.

The 360 is a great system and well worth the money, but I just don't understand the venom towards Blu Ray. Yeah, I was a little pissed at the pricepoint at first too, but the more I'm starting to read between the lines from developers, the happier they seem to be able to focus on making content for games on PS3 instead of worrying about disc size. We are getting concerns already and the 360 has only been out 6 months. Starbreeze is complaining about the disc size for The Darkness on 360 in the latest OXM podcast.

I agree with Speevy when he says DVD will be too small and Blu Ray is too large for games. I doubt most PS3 games will use double density 50 gig discs. They'll probably use the 25 gig single layer discs. As for size, it is better to have some extra space laying around than having too little.

I just don't see how we can toss Blu Ray aside in gaming, when issues are already popping up at this early stage. To be frank, I'm a little pissed I bought a $400 system and already at this early stage I may have to miss out on a sequel to one of the best games of last gen (mercs 2) due to MS decision to choose a DVD drive for the next 5 years. I buy gaming systems for games (Duh :P), and would I have paid an extra 100 dollar premium for a HD DVD drive in the 360 after reading this? Hell yes I would. When I start missing out on hot games on a brand new system I get a little miffed.

QFT. At least I have one believer. ;)

wtf people.....so this thread is about FFXIII being on the PS3, because it has BRD. This is why they moved development from PS2 to PS3, but what I don’t get is how the Xbox360 got in this argument. Or are we talking about some parallel universe where the Xbox360 had a chance of getting a main Final Fantasy game (I know FFXI is on it), but blew it because of the medium it uses. The way I see it was never intended to be a Xbox360 game, so why bother to discuss “the what ifs”.
