Hmm, it depends on how one deliver ones opinion and ones posting history.

People who show a healthy interest in PS3 games (the threads I'm most experienced with because well most of the titles I'm interested in are on that system) and have substantiated worries/complaints are never attacked because the other people know that the person only want the game to be as good as possible.

But people with a known trolling history who constantly enters threads with games they aren't the least interested in mainly due to a console brand preference only write "meh it sucks" about everything the game does get a hard time as they very well should.

There's no need to be a twit who enters a thread just to say that one got no interest in the game. One only accomplish to insult those who actually are interested in the game.
Ex. you do not see me entering Halo threads complaining about the simplicity of the games and that's because it's one of Halo's fundamentals which can't be changed without alienating the core fan-base.
I hope the Gaf mods will ban all the "it sucks" posts where the poster don't even care to back up his statement with reasoning which isn't based on double standards. ^.^ but perhaps it's too much hard work.

LOL sorry, perhaps I should have elaborated a bit more.

The strafe shooter genre has always annoyed me, I just can't play games like Unreal, Doom, Quake, Red Faction,Wolfenstein, KZ, Commander Keen and so on for more than an hour at the time. The games are just too much of the same where as I need puzzles and constant changes in pacing and setup backed by a deep plot.

EDIT: I prefer games like Metal Gear Solid, Deux Ex, System Shock, God of War, Zelda and so on.

I was pointing out that legitimate truths like 360 being dead in Japan isn't trolling. You should relax - I don't have anything against your precious Xbox - it's probably my system of choice this gen... I understand fanboys tend to get a little huffy and puffy when somebody isn't saying the most positive thing about their system of choice, so you just let it all out then go on your merry little way.

I am sorry but I have to agree with him. We have a thread talking about trolling and somebody mentions how the OP himself starts threads that do not serve any purpose other than being troll bait and then you sort of "automatically" fall into the trap of derailing the discussion to system war.

The validity of your statement is not the issue here. The irony and complete irrelevance of it is.

Edit: in other words, trolling is not about whether a statement is true or not. It's all about the context in which the statement is made.

The only reason I think Gaf's trolling fever has risen an all time high is because of the lack of new news, Microsoft ain't doing shit to sort that, neither do they look like they will in the coming months so there won't be anything so much as a rumour leak coming true as a result, and Sony's always been secretive in this way should of seen how crazy people went in 2006 a sad year for forums everywhere.
