Whenever a new CS update is downloaded through Steam, my ping always soars to 1000+ (on DSL) for about a week or more after the update. Why does Steam mock me everytime its supposed to be helping me? Is this common?

I use Steam regularly and have not had the problems you describe.

That makes no fucking sense. Also ignore the nubs here that bring the game down. Turn your steam monitor on to check if its activity from there. You should consider the possibility of reinstalling everything. Also do you have other Steam games?

ask on the steam forum

check the monitor make sure its not downloading other stuff

try logging out of steam (so have to put your password in again) then back in again, this will reset your connection to the steam network all together
