What Game Had The Best Or Most Shocking Ending?

Cyberpunk's "no cyberware V" ending, your character survives a life ending threat only to completely lose his ability to use any cybernetic augments in the future and his friends, becoming just another average anonymous person among the crowds

After all he's done and all he went through it's so cold and makes you feel really bad for him
That's why only losers and cucks pick this ending. /s

Was this added in Phantom Liberty?

Zelda Ocarina of Time. The ending itself is already very good, but the fact that it splits all the zelda timeline makes it even more special.

I'm going to have to push back on Soma being shocking...

Is that twist that people thought you could cut-and-paste your consciousness, so the player character would leave on the Ark? Thought it was apparent through story details that consciousness could only be copied and that you are not the exact same character from the opening in the modern day.

Granted, I'd run into that sci-fi concept before, so it's not like I figured it out/came up with the twist on my own. Mainly curious lf Soma was the first time people had been exposed to that idea, or if there's some element of the twist I'm missing.

Still a great game and story, btw. The player character got hornswoggled, but not me the player, so it didn't detract from the story, imo.

I think there are already three endings that leave you stunned by their rawness, realism, and the beauty that Iwakura Aria brings...

I don't know if I should give spoilers or if it's better to let you experience them for yourselves.

At least they'll definitely leave you thinking about their pervasive realism.

Its brilliant how somehow the saddest ending is the only one where you survive.

Dont see why it is shocking. I mean realistically most people irl would prefer to live than die in a short-lived glory. Even in the cyberpunk world, you're more useful alive than dead even if chrome-less, V's information about the whole corpos/streets would make him an insane handler. No idea why ppl consider it a bad ending. Oh no, you wont have your name on a drink, boohoo lmao. Going with Panam and the group is probably the second best ending because it is unknown what happens after, perhaps out there there is something that can fix V. Same goes with the third best ending the casino heist for Mr Blue Eyes because again, little is known about that guy, but presumably he has more power and know-how than anyone else and one assumes he can also fix V after the casino job. I think Blue-Eyes will have a big impact on the sequel.

For me it's mother 3,
I played the fan translation patch in 2010 and even though I already read some synopsis, it's still shocked me especially with its CERO A (all ages) rating in Japan.

FFx is probably my most memorable but as for shocking I'd have to give Resistance 2 a mention , I just remember being like wtf and the shit leading up to it . The best ending I think would be DQ11's true ending , it wrapped up in the most perfect way.

My man Yoko Taro. If you start with Drakengard it's hard to find an ending that isn't a legit candidate.

I'd also give an honorary mention to Rime, particularly its secret extra ending.

Days Gone and RDR2. That was the two best endings i've ever experienced because the games were finally over. They dragged on like chewing gum.

The tragedy is meant to be that the player understands the concept correctly, so does the supporting character but the protagonist doesn't. He's just scared and desperate and out of his depth, and maybe a little deluded.

Death stranding 2.

Neil Vanas conclusion and entire story was cinematic perfection. Kojima usually goes off the deep end but this really hit all the right strings and emotions.

INFAMOUS final revelation to me was so unexpected, the villain throught the whole game was the main character pushing himself to the limit in order to be ready for the real threat, that you fight in the 2nd game

FC5 ending, the main villian was right all along, not saying it was good tho as the "family" were complete psychos

I see people saying ME3, that one doesn't have a shocking ending, it has 3 awful endings and one not as bad as the others if you gained enough troops to fight for you, but for what you get, it's not worth the effort

Bioshock 1 revelation was so good, it's not the ending of the game, but that twist I never saw it coming

Shocking… shocking. Ok, there is that one game that was really close to that feeling:

Darksiders 1.

"No.. not alone", then the 3 horsemen starts arriving. Ok, that was an insane and an incredible setup for the sequels but we got… 2 and 3…. Which didn't really transition to that incredible ending.

Phantasy Star II.

If I remember correctly, you meet a bunch of people after beating the boss and you can choose Yes or No. It doesn't matter which choice you choose because the game gives you some more text and says they attack you. So it seems after all that, your party gets mauled by like 50 enemies and the credits roll.
