What games had the worst loading times?

PS2 version of Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. It had some 2 minute load screens (I timed it once) just as transitions into certain missions. My copy was a bit scratched up though so I do not know how representative my experience with the game is.

My brother had a C64 and that shit took forever. I remember watching the counter more than I remember any of the games.

The worst loading times are any which are being deliberately used to influence how you play the game. I hate that.

Trully worst loading time experiences happend on atari 800/xl cassettes, not only it took some games 15 to 20minutes to load in, sometimes durning that process u could experience critical errors aka u had to star over :messenger_loudly_crying:

Definetly cassette games, I remember an f1 game on bbc that I had to pause the tape between the splash screen rendering and the game proper loading or it would be 10mins wasted.

Beat only by hundreds of lines of magazine game code listings that contained bugs. Which was often.

PSX / neogeo cd too long? those kids complaining didn't know they were born....

I have never been overly annoyed by long loading times so i cant pin point a specific game to save my life :messenger_pensive:

I guess commodore64 games took a while to load the cassette and that was a bit annoying.

One of the worst was DMC 5 - there are so many loading screens you had to navigate, it makes it feel like the loading screen doesnt ever end.

Back in the day I put a lot of hours into Xbox 360 version of Oblivion and the load times were pretty rough when loading into new areas or using fast travel.

None of these compete with soldiwr of fortune on the dreamcast
2 minutes of loading 30 second cut scene , 2 minutes of loading, 10 second cut scene 2 minutes of loading and so forth
I was scanning the thread to make sure this was mentioned.

I barely played it as I couldn't face the load times.

This thread makes me feel glad i transitioned to PCs after my N64. PCs were always less susceptible to this problem and i was always good at helping it.

For the worst loading i have experienced i will have to go back to the home computers era. Mainly the 8-bit computers that used cassette tapes. I didn't own one, i was very young for that era, but a friend of mine did still play with his Spectrum in the early 90's. The loading times were so long, they became some kind of a ritual, to the point where old users remember those loading screens with nostalgia and claim they were part of the experience.
