Which celebrity’s death would create the biggest public commotion?

Keith Richards.

Not because its likely, its because he's somehow managed to avoid the reaper in spite of having lived the rock lifestyle for so many decades. I've just assumed he's immortal for some time now.

For worldwide shock and commotion it would have to be someone young or in their prime/peak popularity/notoriety, that dies suddenly or tragically.
Like Taylor Swift, Messi, Sydney Sweeney.

Also someone that would leave a huge power vacuum/succession like Putin, Trump, Elon, Prince William, MBS,Kim Jong.
If any of them died unexpectedly there would be a shitstorm.

When Kobe died it hit hard because his daughter, and other innocent people, died as well. It was such a sad, yet preventable tragedy out of nowhere.

Not in the exact vein of the thread, but personally I still struggle to watch Robin Williams stuff 11yrs later, probably the only celebrity that has died and carried enough weight with me to effect me that much.

Nothing surpasses the death of Michael Jackson, the commotion was so great that it turned into conspiracy theories, both that he might still be alive and that he was murdered for knowing too much.

Right after that, I think Akira Toriyama's death was also deeply felt, since there are many Dragon Ball fans.

Personally, Chester Bennington's death was deeply felt, both because of the way he died and because I had followed him for many years.

Nowadays, I think Trump's death would cause a worldwide commotion. There would be people crying and celebrating at the same time, and they would talk about it for a long time. Musically, I think Taylor Swift, because of her hysterical fans.

Reading the name of Taylor Swift, one of the most mediocre artists in history, is the paradigm of the current era of nothingness the world is going through.

There are no personalities or celebrities in the present world like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bruce Willis or Arnold Schwartzenegger.

Yeah just seeing the White women fans at her concerts is enough to describe an entire generation.

For a singer, I would say Madonna being burried by here future 20yo boyfriend will be similar event to Michael Jackson. But those all are good names.

Robin's suicide was a huge shock. Sure there were various stories about his problems, but you instantly forgot about them when you saw him all cheerful and making jokes during public appearances.

For me it's the original members of KISS.

They are an important part of my childhood and provided me with so much entertainment even as an adult.
I've seen their concerts 4 times.

Peter Criss had a breast cancer scare but is doing fine now.
Gene & Paul always stayed away from booze and drugs and it shows.

Ace Frehley's death was sort of comical.
Falling down a flight of stairs? 😆

Ace is my favorite.
I still have to frame my autographed poster.
