Windows Central - Windows 11 adoption might have flatlined — and some users appear to be rolling back to Windows 10

As long as you can disable this shit, it's tolerable IMO.

The users in this thread are funny. Just because the problem didn't happen to you, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

If it happens to 0.1% of users for example, is it a big issue?

There 700 million W11 users world wide, usually a dozen or so report issues with some updates.

4 years ago Xbox was my primary platform, Windows was my primary OS, I was a continuous monthly Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, and used OneDrive for my cloud storage.

Today I no longer game on Xbox, Linux is my primary gaming OS, I've moved to Mac for my laptop, I don't subscribe to Game Pass, and have ditched OneDrive.

Microsoft has completely dropped the ball since 2020 in pretty much every way.
It's okay, there's AI. Other products are antiquated.

I have no idea. Where are you getting the numbers?

Obviously, lol.

But most of this stuff can be traced to reddit posts where some people confirm problems and some don't. Probably EVERY windows update ever have some people experiencing issues.

If it only happened to me, it would already suck. No matter the quantity, it doesn't mean anything.

Not everyone goes online to complain. Many people simply get used to the problems. In many cases, these people will think the problem is the computer and will buy another one. Or they will call support or ask someone for help. The simple fact that Microsoft acknowledges these problems already implies that there are probably many such cases.

Tech Yes City is far from being "obscure" (600k+ subscribers) and his benchmarks/reviews are legit. There's also so great gaming specific Windows optimisation tips and tricks videos on his channel.

I love his channel. He does some of the best and easy to follow undervolting videos. He showed me how to undervolt my 5070 Ti and took an already efficient GPU and dropped about 75W.

That matters in an SFF case.

It's obvious that both hardware and software is not perfect. It sucks to be in that 5% when it comes to hardware but you have warranty that should cover that. If you have legit version of windows you can always contact microsoft. Bugs that fuck up entire boot sequence are rare but you still can fix your Windows install most of the time.

It's obvious they should do way more testing, drop fucking Ai code and stop spamming updates but most of the time "MS is killing W11" info that pops up every few months is blown out of proportion...

Funny thing is that this was the go-to excuse from Linux enthusiasts back when Linux was in a much worse state (i.e. pre-Proton era).

ooohhhh bullshit. It was most often to answer with incredibly complex fixes like they were easy. Not the most encouraging, but at least acknowledging problems and trying to be helpful. The "works for me" posts should be even more common today. Go check the linuxbros thread and find me someone blowing off a question or problem with "works for me".

Nobody is saying that. But are these rare problems or common problems? That's worth thinking about. I have no idea, I just know I haven't had any problem myself.

I keep a windows pc around for gaming but 100% of all other use cases are done in Linux or macOS. Linux has never been easier to use now that you can just query your favorite chat bot on how to do anything you want. Makes learning it much easier than it used to be.

Thanks again to whoever suggested I download Kate in the other thread btw <3. I ran into a situation today where I need to tab like 100 lines and somehow among all those new features Microsoft never added multi-line tabbing to Notepad :pie_thinking:. Finally done with it.

Been using Windows for like 30 years. I dont have another 30 years to mess with stuff. To be honest. I only really use for gaming, streaming and music production. If I can just install the OS and then install the GPU drivers / Mobo drivers. Focusrite Scarlett etc then Ill just do it.
With gaming and a distro like Bazzite/Nobara you just have to install the distro and the drivers are installed/updated for you.

Focusrite Scarlett apparently has pretty robust Linux support: https://justinribeiro.com/chronicle...port-for-the-focusrite-scarlett-solo-4th-gen/

It's linux' fault. Damn thing is just all over the place and unintuitive. I've tried getting into it dozens of times, at least, I probably installed ubuntu more times than seasoned users have, I still don't know how the unix file system works. I can't tell you how many data drives I've wiped accidentally while trying to dual boot ... like tears ... in the rain ...

If you're talking about Linux wiping your Windows boot partition, that's because Windows will install its bootloader on the Linux drive by default. There is no way to point Windows to the correct hard drive during install. The only way to get Windows to stop installing its bootloader on the wrong drive is to physically disconnect the drive.

The more conspiratorially minded Linux users think the reason Microsoft defaults to this is to make it seem like Linux is the issue when the Windows boot loader inevitably gets wiped when re-installing/installing Linux.
