Would you say the PS2 had better first party support than the GameCube?

I like a lot of these games, but I cannot deny that there is some truth to this. In the short term, that is. I think a lot of the Gamecube games were looked back more fondly in the long term. But yes, Playstation 2 did seem to have the market cornered at the time.

I didn't have much interest for first party Nintendo games except Mario and Zelda so PS2 was the clear choice for me at the time. But looking back I've probably played more of the first party games for GC. PS2 was amazing for having a great allround games library though. I'm very happy that Wii was BC as I got the chance to enjoy Wind Waker, Rogue One, Metroid Prime 1 & 2 and Twilight Princess. All of which were some of my best gaming experiences "that" generation (PS3 was so bad for my tastes in gaming).

Gamecube was a wanker's choice that refused to grow up. i had access to one but after being disappointed so much by the N64, I decided to go the Sony Route. First Party games were far greater on the sony camp than in Nintendo's.. Ico and Shadow of the colossus are far greater than anything that was delivered on the Game cube. i loved Metroid Prime and that was it. Jak games were much better than the boring mario sunshine. The story was way better and funnier. more loveable. characters. All the mario games at that generation were so dull and kid oriented.
Eternal Darkness was great i liked it so much. Forbidden Siren was also pretty great. Sony had an answer for any game that Nintendo produced at a higher quality.

Wipeout PS2 was pretty meh. FZero GX shits all over it.
PS2 outings were pretty bad compared to PS1, but I'd still take them over F-Zero.
With WipeOut, there's a sense of accomplishment to be had from learning the mechanics. It's rewarding to play.
F-Zero is basically like the autoride powerup from WipeOut. There's no skill level due to such easy mechanics. It's all done for you.

I think ps2 had better first party output,

However put in mind that Nintendo supported two hardware back then, GameCube + GBA,
and if we combined both, I think Nintendo first party > sony first party.

Nintendo's biggest series had their worst outings on Game Cube.

The only truly great first party game was Prime 1.

Sony had Ico, SotC, Dark Cloud 2, GT3, Jak, Rachet, GoW, and Siren. And then of course a third party library which is unmatched anywhere else.

I had more fun with Smash Bros Melee than the entire PS2 library.
And I have like 200 games for PS2.
Gamecube was peak multiplayer.

GameCube had the Playstation 2 beat when it comes to first parties. But the Playstation 2 still had a lot of fantastic first party games like Shadow of the Colossus, Sly Cooper Trilogy etc

But when it comes to third party support, that's where the GameCube was beat.

The GameCube hardware is the last time specs impressed me too

Honestly, yes, it did.

The GameCube's first-party lineup really isn't on the level some Nintendo fans like to claim. A lot of those titles are heavily overrated in hindsight, and the reception at the time reflected that. If they had truly been as strong and universally appealing as people now suggest, they wouldn't have struggled to retain Nintendo's user base against Sony and Microsoft during that generation.

It was also during that era that part of the Nintendo fanbase began developing this idea that Nintendo inherently made better games than everyone else, and that anything without the company's "seal of approval" was automatically second-rate or not worth paying attention to. That mindset didn't come out of nowhere, and it played a role in how that generation is remembered today.

Damn man this is a hard question.

The GameCube had a GOAT tier first party library and not a lot more. But to be honest, the PS2 also had a GOAT tier first party library.

I'd probably say it was a draw overall but the PS2 obviously absolutely curb stomped the Game Cube in third party support making it one of the greatest consoles of all time.

It was an "enhanced" port of an N64 game still.

GameCube's first party output wasn't that much different from what Nintendo offered with the N64, you could even say they were just remakes. Sony and to an extent Microsoft demined with their first party output.
