Wuchang: Fallen Feathers receives criticism after new 'censorship' patch prevents killing historical figures, altering story

The game received its version 1.5 patch earlier this week, which fixed numerous bugs and made some gameplay tweaks. However, players were somewhat confused by one patch note, which reads: "Made adjustments to animations, values, and level design for certain NPCs and AI. Added dialogs for some NPCs to complete some plots. We will further optimize the exhaustion animations in the future to improve the plot performance."

Players who downloaded the new update have found that the patch note refers to a crucial change in the game, which no longer makes it possible to kill certain bosses and other NPCs who are based on real-life historical figures...the change is seemingly due to pressure from Chinese players who were upset about being able to kill historically significant characters from the end of the Ming Dynasty

You should search better then.

It's already been talked about here, just without the terrible 'woke' monicker.

Pressure from random Chinese players or from China (as a state)?

Wouldn't be surprised if it was the latter and I don't see how or why this would be considered woke?

So many rotten brains in this day and age.

Nah, based on what I saw of Chinese gamers who were into Total War Three Kingdoms, that kind of Chinese gamer who plays historical games is really passionate about the people in their own history. Like they would go out of their way to try not to kill any of their favourite historical characters so they could collect them all into their faction, and stuff like that :].

So it's almost definitely the players who complained and got this changed imo.

Then how did Dynasty Warriors get away with this for literally decades?

Well, in Dynasty Warriors you're kindasorta playing the actual Romance of the Three Kingdoms story, so that's different :pie_open_mouth:. In the Romance of the Three Kingdoms Koei strategy games though, there are definitely also character collectors.

I uh, I don't think that counts as woke lol
Indeed, this is practically pressure from far-right nationalists which is quite common in certain countries like China and a completely separate issue, almost the opposite one could say. Woke has become a catch-all term for stuff we don't like and has completely lost all meaning.

When ever I step into one of these free to play chinese/korean games i swear people are talking a made up language.

Im still trying to figure out the woke part. That instead of dying the game just goes to a cutscene or something

Its like that GTA Korea game, people are saying things that is definitely English but I have no clue what is going on

If they're from China it's doubtful their "far-right". Not in the same way we understand the label in the West anyway. In China, the CCP has promoted fanatical nationalism for decades and nationalism is the default setting for the majority of the population across the political spectrum.

Although I do agree that this isn't "woke". The "woke" label is thrown around so much these days that it's lost all meaning anyway.

I wouldn't say it's completely lost all meaning, I mean we still get stuff like Veilguard and Concord that most people can agree on, but yeah there are definitely people using the word in ways that don't make any sense to me at least.

This is a desperate attempt to grasp at straws, just to stir up controversy. Criticizing the patch is fine, although I don't find it particularly problematic. Labeling everything as "woke" is not only stupid and wrong, it also completely dilutes the term.
