Metro: Redux Review Roundup (say thar five times fast)

Our very own Hawk SE 5/5

English Reviews:
GamesRadar: 9/10 (Excellent) (Note: XBOne version reviewed)
The Many Benefits of Redux
Both games run at 60fps...
The Metro series has always felt a bit sluggish when it comes to frantic gunplay, partially because last-gen consoles sometimes struggled with framerate dips. Not so in Redux, which runs at a steady 60fps.
...and are way, way prettier
Though this is a pretty obvious expectation from a remastered package, Metro 2033 and Last Light look significantly better on the PS4 and Xbox One compared to their last-gen counterparts.
Choose your playstyle: Survivor or Spartan
Survivor means ammo is far more limited, imbuing the game with a sort of survivor-horror feel. Spartan makes each game play like a more traditional shooter. You can also toggle Ranger Mode, which deactivates the HUD and crosshairs for a more immersive experience.
Metro 2033 has received some pretty significant gameplay overhauls
Last Light introduced many gameplay changes to the series, including the ability to wipe fog and blood from the visor of your gas mask and customize your weaponry. These changes and more have now been added to the Redux version of Metro 2033, making the two feel (it cuts off there...?)
All DLC is included
Gun packs, extra missions that let you play as new characters, challenges with online leaderboards--all of the DLC for both Metro games is included in Redux.
You can buy each game separately, or as a package
Not sure you want to plop down $50/£29.86 for the whole package? You can purchase the Redux version of Metro 2033 and Last Light piecemeal, with each retailing at $24.99.
IGN: 8.6

GameSpot 8/10 (Great)
THE GOOD
Adjustments to visuals and interface make the included games seem like two halves of one whole.
Fantastic atmosphere soothes the dread with droplets of violence and hope
Great pacing allows the chill to seep into you before action erupts
Weapons make you feel just potent enough to have a chance in this dismal world
THE BAD
The AI can be heavily exploited
Some silly and distracting narrative events

CVG: 8/10
On the whole, Metro Redux is a convincing refresh that not only rejigs some of the ageing mechanics, but offers an underrated series in an extremely attractive package.

I will update the thread with more links and tidbits from reviews as they roll in. I have to say that the game is looking like a purchase for me. I have never played these games before, so picking them up on PS4 is sounding more and more likely. Is anyone else out there waiting for reviews before picking this up?

Preordered based on other user opinions, the genres these games pull from and the fact that it's 25 quid on the PS4.

I'd be in the wrong for not biting.

Day one for me, i missed out on this last gen, so this remaster is too good to pass up.

Thar thar thar thar thar

Already paid off at Gamestop but hopefully this gets solid reviews across the board. For what you are getting for 50 bucks it would be a shame someone didn't pick it up who's never played them before and has a next gen console.

Really hyped to pick this up on my ps4. Never played any of the Metro games and this seems like a great time to jump in.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
Already got this paid for on my PS4! Will probably sell it after I get the platinum and then rebuy on PC during a crazy steam sale!

So I see most scores are around 8, which is great but not amazing, what are the negatives of this game according to reviewers?
I'll probably buy it anyway, just curious.

I think I'm going to get 2033. Already played Last Light on PS3. Is going backwards like that a terrible idea?

Too expensive for PC players as there is no real reason to upgrade because the vanilla versions still looks good.

If you already own the original PC versions, you get 50% off. It's worth it for Metro 2033 as that's running on an entirely different engine and has huge gameplay differences. Last Light less so but still, I'm happy I forked out for the former.

I think it's just the content of the original games themselves. Great but not perfect. The original releases for each title averaged scored around 8 as well.

Last of Us Remastered scored 10's because it's one of the greatest games of the last generation.

Fair enough, so why the original scored only 8? :p

Poor AI, fairly linear gameplay, complaints about the story.

Personally I'm really excited to pick up Metro Redux. I'm a sucker for the atmosphere in these games.
Only poor AI sounds worrying, thought they improved it with Redux but according to Gamespot it can be easily exploit, whatever that means.

I checked this like 15 mins ago and found nothing. Thank You!

Edit:
Boo you have to play the game twice to get the platinum...

If its any consolation, theres 2 endings. Also I think Survival and Spartan mode are pretty much polar opposites, so I doubt either playthrough will be very similar at all

Well I didnt care for the more cod-esque gunplay and the fact that certain graphical effects have been heavily downgraded/removed from the original PC version isnt something Id call beneficial.
Metro 2033 original PC (volumetric light, cloth pyhsics, gun blast causes shadowing, blast shield can have bullet holes fired into it which cause volumetric lighting to pour through ala The Division)

That's good news. I ordered a copy of the double pack for PS4, even though I have a small (but growing) backlog. I wasn't able to play much of the first on pc so I'm looking forward to this.

Cool, that's good to know. I guess if I decide to try to get the platinum I'll probably do Spartan mode first and then Survival.

2033 had really weird (bad) AI - human enemies would not see you even though they would look right at you at the distance of 1 m or less (and if you were in the dark), but if they would spotted you, everyone in the room would automatically exactly know where you are, many missions when you needed to follow some other NPC - waiting him to open up doors for you, walking slowly behind him, enemies didn't much reacted to getting hit with bullets, some bugs, graphics in the console versions were pretty shitty compared to PC version, the PC version was on the other hand pretty heavy because of all those fancy effects, etc.. but for me personally it was still one of the best gaming experiences that i have experienced

Last Light had way better controls - handling of guns, stealth was heavy improved compared to 2033 - but because of this LL was way more easier than 2033, less horror/survival game than 2033, but it still has some pretty great horror moments, the structure of missions was a little bit more freely, but still some missions with following an NPC were there, etc.. from this game i had more of a Half-Life 2 feeling than with 2033, which was more of a CoD game, but way more unique and better :)

I am so reluctant to believe the downgrade that I already preordered it on Steam and have to see it day one.

Holy Shit.

That's a big difference. Is this common in the console Redux versions as well?
Or is it only PC?

Of course the console versions are the same. They had to reach 60fps on consoles and thats some of the stuff that took the hit. They just didnt add it back in the PC version.
