Non-games. LOL.

Rhythm Tengoku is most defintely not a non-game. It's basically a Warioware title without the Warioware branding.

Those are pretty weak sales for Wii Music, but I'm sure that that thing will have really strong legs.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

It sold a Mil in Japan - so it is a Non-Game.

Every mini-game is a warioware game without the branding. Rhythm mini-games seems more accurate.

Looks like Wii Sports and MK DS won't get a chance to rejoin the top 10 soon, that's probably a good thing.

So you're saying that it may or may not be a bomb and these first week sales which are less than other Wii series' first weeks may or may not be a cause for Nintendo to worry?

Are you certain?
No, i'm saying that i'm not going to say that Wii Music is a bomb because we only have like 4 days of sales data for Wii music and the other games in the "Wii" serie have all shown great legs. If Wii Music stops to chart within the top 50 in Media Create weekly ranking list after 3-4 weeks from now on and then Wii Music never charts again, then we might start talking about if it is a bomb or not :)

To take an example: Brain Training 1 for the DS, didnt that game sell like 16k (or maybe it was something like 36k?) the first week, but in the end it ended up selling over 3 million copies in Japan? Thats why i think its to early to saying anything if Wii Music (or any game for that sake) will bomb when it has only been out on the marked for about 1 week.

People might discuss around the topic that Wii Music's first week preformance is weaker than the other games in the "Wii" serie, that is fine for me of course, and they might even call the first week's sales for a "bomb" if someone should prefer that, but when i personally think of games that are bombing, then i think about the overall preformace of the game when it is all said and done :) Or you can say "the first week sales of (insert a game title here) bombed" if people want to use the word bomb (then i'm talking in general, this is not directed to Wii Music, because i think about 100k the first week is not too bad) :)

About if Nintendo is worrying or not, i just said that the first weeks sales of Wii Music is about 29% of the total first shipment (atleast if Sinobi's numbers on 350k is correct (i think it was about 350k atleast, please correct me if im wrong)), and i dont think that this sell-through rate is exactly super great. I wonder what Nintendo's expecations were for Wii Music's first week sales. I wonder how Nintendo feels about this, or if they arent worried at all because they "know" that Wii Music will contunie to sell relatively good for a longer period of time :)

I'm surprised at the lack of faith around LBP. Why do some of you think it won't sell well in Japan of all places?

Because it's neither on the DS nor the Wii. In the UK I don't think the FIFA crowd will get it, In the USA the Madden/Guitar Hero won't get it, and although I think it will do best in japan (relatively speaking) I'm not sure it will appeal to the typical non PS3 owner enough to get them to pick up the system.

I think that WiiMusic will be creating it's own trajectory, and once the positive vibes from the casuals hits it will continue to sell 50k in normal weeks and 100k over the new year. 1 Million by the ned of Golden week would be a realistic path I think.

I haven't played it, but based on the concept, I think this has the potential to do really well.

As well if the game actually does a good job with the concept, NoA are leaving huge amounts of cash on the table if they don't bring this over.

Women love fashion, women love dress up dolls and there are tons of little girls with DS's out there.

Well Rhythm Tengoku is certainly no sterile, adult focused, "Rhythm Training" game, and so that's why throwing the "non-game" label on it is not altogether correct. It's a colorful, stylish, in your face, video gamey feeling video game. The art style is a literal copy of the Wario ware art style, but it's just that there is no Wario here.

The style of the game is completely different than all of the other sterile, non-games we've seen come out of Nintendo.

There's a distinction here, but I'm not sure what it shows. I guess you could note that it maybe shows that adult consumers that became comfortable with the DS because of grownup-ish software are willing to try out other styles of games if they sound interesting?

Maybe it's just a good game and the sheer massiveness of the DS install base insures it excellent sales. Has the marketing been huge for this title?

You don't get it or haven't been on GAF long enough.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
I think with Wii Music it's just really a different proposition from the other Wii titles- attempting to basically stand on its own as a full priced piece of software.

Wii Sports is budget priced and in many respects defined the system.

Wii Fit is essentially a peripheral.

Wii Play is of course bundled with a controller.

Wii Music is the first full priced, non-peripheral software.

PantherLotus was likely joking.

Some gaffers were saying that anything that hits 1 million was a non-game(because of Nintendogs and Brain Training hitting a million in japan). So in turn when something like NSMB, MKDS, or FF3 hit a million people mocked the others who basically tried to pin the DS userbase as nothing more than old people and kids. Anyway the notion was continuously proven wrong and occasionally people still play the joke.

RTG is another example of a game deemed hardcore(or core) in the past by some that is now hitting a million units in Japan. Also it did have quite a bit of marketing(good word of mouth also), and probably still has stuff going.

This isn't something I've put a great deal of thought into, but the combination of western developer, being a console 2D platformer, lacking a known brand, and being a PS3 game seems to give the game an uphill path.

Yeah I get the joke. Rhythm Tengoku is an interesting case though, since it's really simply a new game that is getting sales by being great and appealing to people. Many people argued that NSMB did well because it was a Mario game and was appealing to the nostalgia of the many lapsed Famicom gamers that had bought a DS for Brainage and other software.

It would be interesting to know the demographic make up of who is buying Rhythm Tengoku.

Nintendo advertised this game very well, actually. It also helps that it has one of the pop sensation songs of the moment.

can someone please point me to that "other thread" ?

I guess it's the famitsu news thread but I can't find it in the first 3 pages, where is it?

or better yet, someone just post the numbers.

what the fuck is this... those are the worst numbers I have seen for HD consoles in quite some time, specially PS3, I am not sure how low can it go before we can declare it dead in the water in japan.

PS3 has been dead in the water in Japan for a while now.

Pisswalker fails again. It's kind of sad, I loved ASH's design and from what I know MW actually had something to do with that. A traditional turn based rpg with ASH's design would be interesting, and something that may actually work out like BD. I'm only talking about ASH's character and world designs, I know nothing of it's dialogue, plot, and other likely cringe worthy moments.

but how dead is it?

Is it mostly dead or all dead? If it's all dead, there is only one thing to do.

What's that?

Rummage for loose change.

I wonder how many PS3 games had a bigger first week. Sure there have been some, but if THAT is "bombing"...

so comparing something to the PS3 is the definition of success now?

So you're saying that it may or may not be a bomb and these first week sales which are less than other Wii series' first weeks may or may not be a cause for Nintendo to worry?

Are you certain?
I just wanted to quote this again because i now noticed that i had deleted some of the text that i first wrote in that post for some reason (i guess it happend by an accident when i edited the post earlier), so what i first wrote might have looked abit wierd, i am sorry about that. But i have now edited that post :)

It may take forever to get them, but it updates anything notable.

If your definition of notable is that it makes the Top 500, then yeah. :p Yoshi's Island should show up on the 2008 Top 500, if that is a Famitsu total, though.

It launches Christmas Day. If the PS3 isn't already seeing a sales surge that close to New Year's, ...

I'm surprised at the lack of faith around LBP. Why do some of you think it won't sell well in Japan of all places?

Because it's a western game. Doesn't matter if it's published by Sony, they can smell the foreignness.

Oh and well it's a PS3 game too, you know...

The record for so far for a PS3 game appearing in the top 10 is 4 weeks and is a tie between Hot Shots Golf and MGS4.

I think this title may actually tie or beat it... we'll see.

For Famitsu, MGS4 did 4 weeks and MnG5 did 3 weeks in the the top 10. There are then 9 PS3 games that had 2 weeks in the Top 10.
