How greatly overexaggerated, eh? Main icons are a bigger (which I like), XMB main icon text is the same, but the font size for the main text is a bit bigger, but not by nearly as much as I thought it would be when I first saw it after download.

Overall if (more like when?) we get the option, I would probably like to keep the bigger icons but revert to the old text.

OR if they give us an in-between (small [pre-3.0] / medium [3.xx?] / large [3.0]).. though whatever options they eventually allow, I think im generally fine with the current setup tbh..

The jump is a lot larger for those set at 1080i/p. I remember I set it to 720p pre-3.0 and the text was larger than my usual 1080. They're now all the same size.

True, but it does make them jump out. I guess this is a step on Sony's part to encourage a community since past friends lists were kind of clinical and soulless. What they really need is trophy information on the bar, on the far right. It would be a very, very good idea.

I didn't fiddle with my set up at all (but on the previous FW I didn't have the "ticker" activated) and on my main Euro account it has never shown up. On my US and Japanese accounts it's there alright. I hadn't realised there was lots of fuss over the ticker. I'll have to investigate my settings.

While i do like this update, there are somethings i at least want a option on. The big thing is the font. On my 1080p tv the font seems alot bigger, it looks silly to be honest.

And the grey boxes on the friend list.

Other than that , I'm quite happy.

Well, at least on my end, the font is bigger then in that gif. Not sure if it has to do with 1080p vs 720p.

I think the ticker is only for US and JP so far (probably a few more also that I don't know of)

and currently not for EU (probably a few more also that I don't know of)

I like the ticker. It's informative (concerning number of friends online, being able to immediately tell if there's anything in your inbox, and CNN scrolling!)

Will rebuilding the HDD help me to get rid of the freezes I get since the update? I already mentioned that UFC 2009 freezes for a second whenever a online notification pops up and now Wipeout is doing the same. Will I loose my data from rebuilding?

You won't lose your data from rebuilding, but I doubt it will fix the freezes. I'm pretty sure all systems had their database rebuilt after the update finished already.

Sony acknowledges FW 3.00 issues and are working on fixes

Negative Feedback:

* The font size is too large, some users find this slightly insulting
* Animations on the XMB do not appear fluent
* Icons on the XMB are now too large
* The design of the XMB feels disjointed and confused. The grey boxes on the friends list do not suit the rest of the design template, for example
* There is now both an analogue AND a digital clock, which is not necessary
* The battery meter for controllers no longer suits the design template for the XMB
* Battery Icon for the Official Wireless Headset still overlays the clock
* PLAYSTATION 3 Jingle no longer chimes when loading a game. Subject of much distress for many users.
* Music now stops if the user attempts to view a friend's profile or opens anything in the settings menu.
* PlayStation Store is now under games, which makes no sense. The store does not provide only games. It should be under Network only.
* Last played games option doesn't restore your last session. It just starts the game.
* Comment line is MASSIVE in comparison to the amount of text which can be used when writing a comment.
* When in game, the XMB presents ALL options to the user, rather than just those which can actually be used whilst in game.
* Dynamic backgrounds can be turned off for each individual user, but cannot be turned off on the user selection screen. No matter what, every console now logs on to be greeted with glitter.
* The status bar overlays half the screen when displayed in Standard Definition
* What's new takes too long to load, making it unworth the hassle
* The PlayStation Store is far too intrusive now and makes PlayStation reek of marketting.

I dunno, I use my PS3 on a 1080p screen and the difference isn't as big as some of you make it out to me. In fact it's pretty minimal.

This thread is humongous so I haven't read all of it, but has any Mac users noticed that 3.0 broke media sharing via nullriver's media link app? I checked for updates on nullriver's end and it's a no go. Sucks since I love the PS3 media sharing capabilities.

Boot up a PSOne game: You get the jungle
Boot up a PS2 game: You get the jingle
Boot up a PS3 game: You get the jingle... except after the update.

You have no love for the brand if you think they are complaining for no reason.

That said, I agree with most of the negatives, especially the over-populated XMB. XMB used to be superior to every other infrastructure because it was simple yet it covered everything. Now it's like a fucking shitty rave party where everyone is shit drunk and throwing up on the floor. Please remove the excessive "Playstation Store" icons ESPECIALLY if we CANNOT USE IT (i.e. "This store is inaccessible in your country" bullshit). Under "System Settings", give us the option to customize XMB so that we can reduce it down to bare minimum of what we want and what we don't want and you got yourself a fucking brilliant interface.

The "jingle" for PS1 and PS2 games are on the game disks/images. Playstation 3 games have none, it was part of the firmware.

The reason it was changed from disc-based to system-based was that the disc-based slows down the loading process or so as I last checked. That said, the "jingle" is coming. They are most likely changing the font from spidey.

Would've been included in the update if they were going to do that. It doesn't take a whole lot of work, I mean, they did do it for the boot screen.

I haven't gone crazy about it, but I really hated it when I first saw it. A simple option is the best way to deal with it. Just have Font Size- Normal/Octogenarian, it can't be that hard
