Back in the 80s it was the translation for "shoot em ups", then it passed on to shooter games.

Yeah "picchiaduro"("beat hard" more or less) is and will always be the name of beat'em ups and fighting games for me.

EDIT:
"Drago d'oro" means "golden dragon".

On a slightly related thing, I love the italian convention of inventing nouns, where you basically add an imperative form of a verb and the object (think "asciugamano" or "apribottiglia".)

I should've seen "sparatutto" coming a mile a way.

I know this is a joke, but it's already tiring to hear this stereotype in our country that i wish not to spread it here...

There have been some picks in the past years at the Drago D'oro, but nothing more outrageous of what you might get from, you know, D.I.C.E. awards

This year picks seems actually legit, though
