It's simple. Attitude. If you harbour a negative attitude toward those more fortunate than yourself you have absolutely no chance of ever becoming anything like them. No chance.

"So just accept this violent inequality and keep grinding and struggling": is basically what you're saying.

In a world where people are making millions on fucking YouTube it saddens me that there are still people who decide that it's wrong to dream of a better life.

And the dreaming is the easy bit, it's the execution that's really tough.

"In a world where lottery winners have their lives changed overnight, it saddens me that people in financial trouble can't dream of a better life."

Open your eyes, the examples you bring up (Kim Kardashian, the successful youtubers) are 1 in a million.
You can't justify wealth inequality by saying that a very small group of people managed to get from the bottom to the top.

It's insane to me that people can still seriously take that condescending tone towards people who voice legitimate concerns about how very few people have so much money yet many, many more are living in poverty, for no legitimate reason.

Damn she was robbed at gunpoint after being bound and gagged.... Apparently the robbers took jewelry worth a ton.

I would have guessed she has like a body guard or something, poor her :/

Well...

“Kim K was robbed. What kind of security does a girl have who is surrounded 24/7 by her family, bodyguards, cameramen, and staff for her reality TV show.”

To be honest, didn't she have any security beside a hotel room lock? If she carries around 10 million euros worth of jewelry, isn't that rather...naive?

I mean you're deluded and shit but come on. Being pissed off at wealth inequality is not what leads to wealth inequality. That's literally impossible.

People just use social media to shit talk, it's just that it creates a public record of your shit talking that conversation doesn't (as yet).

I didn't speak to anyone about this because I don't give a fuck about Kardashians, but the type of thing I would've said in passing is "probably did it for the publicity" or "who cares, she's rich enough" - This is part of being a celebrity, they get shit talked about, it's not personal it's just that these people are so remote as to be characters in a TV show... which in this case they actually are.

Fuck me, some people in this thread holy shit.

Just because a person is very successful (on all levels) it is OK treat him/her like that?

It is fucked up.

There's absolutely zero need for this kind of response regardless.

I really can't stand the famous for famous sake mentality, the obsession with celebrity, the way this kind of news trumps actually important stuff sometimes, but that doesn't excuse this kind of behaviour.

If this was anyone other than a Kardashian, the response would be wildly different.

This is true, if it was the average person or not even someone many find to be contemptible there would be more pity for her. But due to quite a few factors more than a few are not going to have pity for her wrong or right.

Why do people hate the kardashians anyway. Not gonna lie, I've watched a few kardashian episodes in my time and can't even tell why they get all this hate. There are plenty of people just as rich

I'd use the word, "suspicious" if I were an insurance investigator.

I usually always wrong though, why wouldn't it be in this case?

You are a sad person if you find enjoyment to someone else despair and demise.

Haven't you heard? Savvy business women who use their sexuality as an asset are bad. ;P

The Secret isn't really a good guide to financial success, sad to say.

Eh, the only one that's legit bad is the proud to be a Parisian one. The minimum wage one is great, and the twerk one gets a little chuckle.

When I was watching the reality show I was expecting just constant flaunting of sexuality every minute but it really wasn't the case. In fact, the damn show is successful because it actually contains sitcom like storylines and shit

Convincing yourself working hard is the key to becoming rich is a really convenient way to lambast the poor. What an idiotic point of view.

They're mostly innocent and some even funny jokes, it was to be expected. Not by French or Parisian people only, probably elsewhere in the world as well. As big as the Kardashian fan base is, the opposite side seems even bigger.

You can have empathy and still make jokes about someone. She wasn't murdered or assaulted. The fact that one person owns $10M in jewelry should be ridiculed.

Oh for fuck's sake. As mentioned above, she was assaulted alright, tied up and gagged while held at gunpoint, and you are saying that ISN'T assault?

Just admit it. You hate the Kardashians so you are projecting your hate onto them even after this traumatizing event. For that you really should be ashamed.

The fact that people have so little empathy, even for a Kardashian, is fucking disgusting.

Many people find the the gap between rich and poor even more disgusting. If Kim was known for her philanthropy with her piles of cash, I bet there would be a different reaction.

When there are millions of people who work hard everyday and can barely get by, where everyday is a struggle, and something like this happens to an ultra rich person, it's hard to feel sympathetic for them.

Of course people are jealous. Do fuck all and become a multi millionaire not to mention the whole family is full of shitheads.

She turned a shitty sextape into a multimillion dollar franchise. Good for her and hers.

I ain't into her show or her family but people so jealous that they hate is silly to me. Pour that energy into your own hustle.

No.

The human response is and has been "wow that is really awful!"

The human response remains exactly that for anyone that isn't some sort of criminal, KK or anyone you may randomly hear about being robbed on your local news. Whether they take to the Internet to discuss it further or not doesn't change how your average person will generally feel about someone's wife being held at gun point, tied up and put in a bathtub. It may affect the number of shares it gets, but that should be about it for anyone who isn't a sociopath.

And it for damn sure isn't KK's fault Paresians are broke. She's not fucking French. Using it as some sort of platform to complain about the French not being happy with their financial state is just gross, which would be a fair description of a number of GAFers in this thread: gross.

Get your lives together and stop being ugly.

Like the fact that she donates 10% of her income every year, to charity, which she's been doing since before she was famous? Like the fact that when North was born, she asked for charity donations instead of gifts? Like the advocacy she does regularly in support of recognition of the Armenian genocide, including a full-page ad she took out in the New York Times blasting the WSJ for running an ad denying the genocide?

Sure, maybe not the most a celebrity has ever done for the world. But she does her part.

She also doesn't have a terrible record in terms of philanthropy.

I'm more and more convinced that the only part of Occupy Wallstreet that survived is the uncritical "fuck the rich" part.

This is exactly how I feel. I'm not sure why people are using this of all things as an opportunity to bring up income inequality. There was a good chance she could've gotten raped and/or killed. Some people need to learn when to pick their battles.

A mother was held up at gunpoint. Yeah, I don't care about the Kardashian brood one iota but I don't see why anyone would celebrate this.

What does her riches have to do with anything? Where do you draw the line?

I think it is sickening that people find this as something just and almost applaud it.

I love these French threads. French people/comedians do some super mean shit and the French always chalk it up to "different senses of humor". You guys really need to get your shit together.

Attitude is not the driving factor of macroeconomic distributions of wealth lol.

You have a very bizarre and youthful ignorance of what drives the distribution of wealth. I am not saying that it is something that is 100% figured out, brilliant economists disagree on many points, but I am certain that attitude has not been shown in an empirical capacity to be the main culprit.

Daily reminder that the USA is not a capitalist economy, but a "mixed economy" which is a blend of capitalism and socialism. 9th grade, people.

Also, the Kardashians are not lobbying against legislation to raise the minimum wage, so trying to rationalize your contempt of someone else's success as standing against wealth inequality makes no sense.

interesting....

"I do eBay auctions monthly and change the charity or church from time to time. I give 10% of all my earnings to charities, not just these eBay auctions. This month it’s for the people of the Philippines, last month was Life Change Community Church." [She has been doing this since before she was a household name.] - Huffington Post, E! News

Idk theres still like a billion people in the world without electricity, where every day they can't even get a proper education or have the time to learn to read, much less get to post on NeoGAF like you do. Hard to sympathize for you if you got robbed.

This.
