"The Paris Robbery" - A Very Special Episode Of Keeping Up With The Kardashians

my wife loves this and the RH shows and all that jazz and shes convinced this was a PR stunt. Shes the most on point person with pop culture, working in the industry and all, so it makes it hard for me to not consider some of what she says, but at the same time it's like who would stoop so low. like how can you fake this stuff. I want to believe its real, but I just don't know anymore whats real life and not. at least nothing irreversible or injury came from it.

Even if the Kardashians didn't use Snapchat to basically liveblog their whereabouts, this was an inside job. Her employees would know where she was anyway.

Paparazzi would have pictures of her too, and you would likely be able to narrow down her location with a knowledge of Paris and enough dedication to rob her at gunpoint.

Fans on Twitter act as a live, crowdsourced paparazzi, posting candid shots of The Kardashians in real time as they go from place to place.

A tweet of a pic with Shia Lebouf in a Tennessee diner was how those guys on 4chan narrowed down his location in order to take down his flag on Livestream.

This cannot be avoided. Monitor Kim's Twitter mentions and I bet you could find out where she was an hour ago today, with little effort.

Also, this was a plot point on the show earlier. Kylie was being stalked in real life, the perpetrator using Snapchat, Instagram, and Twitter spottings by fans to target her. As it was revealed on that episode, Kim, Kendall, and other members of the family often cloak where they really are by posting to Snapchat while in airplane mode, and then disabling airplane mode after they've left the area they posted in. The Snapchat goes up, but it isn't really live anymore, they're already gone but they've generated content for their fans to interact with.

They're not dumb.

I'm honestly a little surprised we don't hear about this kind of thing doesn't happen more often. With as much as reality stars put themselves "out there" you would think there would be more cases of disgruntled and rogue confidants looking to take "revenge" on their (assumedly) former co-workers by setting them up for bad situations or otherwise leaking pertinent info that could lead to dangerous situations.

That being said, I'm also surprised they're making an episode of the show about this. I assumed the Kardashians, Kim especially, just wanted to move on with their lives and forget all about this, especially once all the prosecutions had gone through.

Absolutely. Sexism is probably the primary reason people hate Kardashian in a way that they don't hate someone like say, Donald Trump, who's fame is remarkably similar.

However, wearing 10 million dollars worth of jewelry on your body as you walk past people on the street who are literally fighting hunger is a disgusting act in itself. I'm surprised things like this don't happen more often. People will of course be angry that I said this because there is an irrational belief in the West that wealthy people earned their fortunes and thus deserve to have more than others. But, a person can condemn both excessive wealth and a violent attack at the same time.

Pretty sure the guys that planned the robbery weren't starving proletariats.

There was a big police investigation, and several arrests:

Why is the hatred so strong for the Kardashians? There's an infinite amount of evil in this world and its like people just really love shitting on them. Just ignore them if they're that irrelevant in your life

Because they're rich. I remember the first thread about the armed robbery was filled with people saying it was faked for ratings and to make France look dangerous, she deserved it for owning expensive jewelry, etc. It was really gross.

Can't say I respect her or even like her but this is something that no person should go through. Glad she's alright and that nothing serious happened.

Horrifying account. Thank goodness they didn't harm her physically beyond some rough handling. The emotional trauma would have been so much heavier.

For people that want to blame her for "flaunting" her jewelry and clothes on social media...well, that's kind of her job. The Kardashians make millions of dollars through brand ambassador work on Instagram and Snapchat. And yes, it is work.

I'm not a fan of celebrity lifestyle news, celeb gossip, or any of that obnoxious stuff, but they're still human beings that are just seeking their own form of happiness. The Kardashians are harmless and easy to tune out if you don't care for their product. Let's remember that.

Proper security doesn't matter when the security is in on the crime.

Checking in a location or taking selfies doesn't mean they asked to get robbed. It has its risks, but doesn't mean you deserve the punishment

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
They put themselves in this position by snapchatting and instagramming every second of their day and where they will be. It makes it very easy for people to use that info.

Yikes....just like women in skirts just ask to being raped...right ? SMH.

Yeah, some of the stuff being spewed out in regards to Kim K and others in this thread, and in the initial thread of how this all went down, was fucking disgusting, that is putting it lightly.

Though I do agree with some of the other posts which peg the hatred of the Kardashians as rooted in misogyny.

She was in a penthouse suite and the robbery was an inside job. This wasn't just some random stick-up, this was planned and coordinated. The two situations simply don't compare at all.

There's more than enough reasons to hate this family and hate the amount of money they make. They don't produce anything remotely worthwhile to my sensibilities or taste. That has little to do with whether I think they deserve to be robbed by gunmen.

How does your wife explain the 17 arrests? Those aren't real (thus the French government are in on the PR stunt), or that the Kardashians are letting 17 people rot for this?

They compare to me because the modern criminal has figured out how to watch social media for high value/easy targets.

Most of you should already know this but protip: dont post in public social media when you are leaving your place to go on vacation.

Here's a run down of what the Kardashians have been through (it's a lot!). There's a reason why Keeping up with the Kardashians has now been on air for TEN YEARS..and with the show getting renewed over and over again, it seems like the show may be on air for another ten years (especially with the next generation of Kardashians getting older).

People love to watch them..the good times AND the bad times!

* O.J Simpson ("trial of the century") - Robert Kardashian as O.J's lawyer (& supposedly destroying evidence to protect O.J).

* Kris cheats on Robert Kardashian with multiple men (including rumors of a possible fling with O.J Simpson).

* Kim runs away from home as a teenager and marries a man in Las Vegas (her first marriage - later revealed her husband was beating her).

* Kim & Ray J sex tape scandal.

* Ray J/Brandy's mother (Sonja Norwood) sues the Kardashian kids for credit card fraud (Kardashian's stole Sonja's AMEX).

* Khloe arrested & jailed.

* Kardashian kids vs wicked evil stepmother Ellen Kardashian. Ellen Kardashian seeks revenge and sells Robert Kardashian's private diary to the tabloids.

* Kim & Kris Humphries 72 day marriage (Kris later files a lawsuit against Kim for defrauding him into marriage).

* 17 year old Kylie dating a 26 year old rapper (Tyga).

* Scott Disick (Kourtney's baby daddy) drug and alcohol addiction and in and out of rehab.

* Bruce Jenner kills a woman with his car.

* Khloe's real dad is O.J Simpson conspiracy theory.

* Bruce & Kris divorce after 22 years of marriage.

* Rob's massive weight gain and half decade long depression (and rumors of being bipolar).

* Khloe dumps Lamar after it's revealed he's a crack addict and is cheating on Khloe.

* Kourtney dumps Scott after it's revealed he's a cocaine addict and is cheating on Kourtney. Scott threatens suicide and is admitted to rehab for the umpteenth time.

* Kim vs. PETA (flour bombing incident).

* Rob gets with & impregnates Kardashian's enemy Blac Chyna.

* Lamar Odom drug overdose at a Las Vegas brothel (and critical condition hospitalization).

* Kim "Breaks The Internet" - models fully nude in Paper Magazine.

* Kim vs Amber Rose. Amber Rose reveals that Kim is a homewrecker (Kim was pursuing Kanye whilst he was still with Amber).

* Bruce Jenner transitions into Caitlyn Jenner.

* Kim & Kanye vs Taylor Swift ( #KimExposedTaylorParty).

* Kim robbed at gunpoint/gagged/tied up & millions of dollars in jewellery stolen whilst in Paris. Turns into a massive police investigation across multiple European countries leading to 17 arrests.

* Kim's husband Kanye's mental breakdown and admission into a psychiatric hospital.

* Blac Chyna phone hacked and texts prove she's using Rob to marry him and trademark the "Kardashian" name for her own wealth. Kim/Khloe/Kourtney immediately commence legal action to stop Blac Chyna from using the "Kardashian" name.

I don't follow them but I can see how this makes for a pretty good soap opera. Like, if all that was the plot for a 10 season long show, it'd completely make sense for how popular it'd be.

Ratings were harshly down though. Now that "you can be a president without merits" show is running, the "you can be a celebrity without merits" show is not interesting anymore.

If someone wears an apple watch in a bad neighborhood do they deserve to be robbed?

Ok, then.

I'll probably watch this soon. Being at the Kanye show that night was crazy. He just stormed off and people were pissed as hell until the news of the robbery broke.

deserve? No. In my neighborhood would that be stupid if you are alone and unarmed? Yes.

She was in a private residence.

That's gonna traumatise the shit out of anyone. We had a masked gang come to our neighbours, they just robbed her TV and other electronics while she just screamed, and that stuff has changed my world view permanently, and I wasn't even the one robbed - can't imagine what a mess I would have been if that'd have been me.

I Agee gaffers don't wanna hear it but your keeping it real.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
A bit weird to put such incredible intimate stuff on tv, but i guess that's what it's all about

It does weird me out a bit too as they seemed to realize their very public life style may have been part of the problem and even shut down the show and their social media stuff especially for Kim. Now its on the show and it does come off as a bit strange to do such a 180 but perhaps that's how they deal with shit now, fake as it can come off at times.

When the story first came out, I was considering this... Likewise my wife eats up Kardashian and RHW stuff, and I watch a lot of the shows with her. There is so much manufactured drama on those shows that at first I thought it's absolutely a setup. But then as info came out about it, it didn't seem that way... the money they were talking of was in the 10s of millions, and then the rest of the reaction convinced me it's more real.

But, with this there's an actual police investigation, and some 15 people were arrested for the heist. If it were a big ratings grab PR stunt, the French police would have criminal charges of conspiracy against the E! network, Kardashians, and anyone affiliated with the show.

A bit weird to put such incredible intimate stuff on tv, but i guess that's what it's all about

ANd yeah, with this... The family will really monetize everything, and I can't really blame them because of what's on the table. They're going to turn this really terrible crime into big time ratings, it'll probably be the highest rated episode in a few years and generate serious money for them. They've done it before with deeply personal events in their lives, and it generates millions of dollars for them. I can't fault them for making lemonade out of lemons, but it does seem very weird ot me. Different way of looking at life.

Still seems somewhat scummy to me to do it on your own reality show instead of a news interview. Though I suspect she would have profited either way with news outlets willing to pay top dollar for her story and her I'm sure willingness to sell.
