fix.

I agree, I actually thought everything, excluding the fire, was either in engine, or at least using in game assets.

I too thought the same!
But someone confirmed above that it was CG.

Well if memory serves Codie's VP said they realized they overdid the American attitude in Dirt 2, so I think they'll probably be toning that down a little.
Yeah I remember reading something in which they said that Dirt3 will be a more British affair.

Can't wait for this, I loved Dirt2 so even if this is just more of the same I will be happy.

If you want CGI, here's the first "screenshot" they released of DiRT 2, now thát was CGI:

If they can mix DiRT and DiRT2 into some sort of happy medium between a rally game and some sort of XGames circle jerk, could be my favourite non-sim racer yet. Love the DiRT series.

All I want to hear is "The focus of this game is on rally events" All the other stuff is nice, but it's not what I came to Dirt 2 looking for. Also I hope the PC version is day one this time.

Trailer looks great. Can't wait to see the snow stages, rain would be great too.

Hope they keep the non-rally stuff to a minimum.

Dirt 2 was a disappointment for me due to the focus on a bunch of racing types I didn't care about and in the end resulted in only having a few tracks for each of the racing types I did enjoy. Hopefully this game goes back to the CMR roots a bit, but I doubt that.

I liked when rally games were about rallying, and not about gymkhana-like bullshit with XTR3ME!!!1111 attitude.

Sad times.
stonedwal said:
As much as I liked Dirt 2, the presentation was really grating. I'll buy Dirt 3 if it's not obnoxiously "extreme" and there are more pure rally events. No Codemasters' Piss Filter™ would be a nice bonus, too.

Trailer does nothing for me. I just wish someone would step up and make a real rally game. The formula exists just use it already.

Block is being promoted for a rally game instead of Loeb?

smh.
If you want actual WRC rally, get Milestone's WRC game.

DiRT will continue to focus on X-games stuff.

Really nice looking trailer! Not interested in the game though if it's just going to be gymkhana and other "extreme" shit with loose controls.

Point to point only Codemasters or I won't be buying it.

Oh and get rid of the "Americanised" bollocks!

Thanks

Hmm. I think it was maybe the handling. Handling in Dirt 1 constantly felt like you were on the edge of flying off a cliff, but it was manageable. I remember having a lot of fun with it. Dirt 2 felt like you were driving on ice, IMO. More... arcadey?

Strange I thought the total opposite, Dirt being arcade like and Dirt 2 sim like.

Dirt 2 looks absolutely stunning on consoles, i wouldn't be surprised if the game ends up looking very close to this trailer, i would be if PC version didn't, actually.

Also, Dirt 2 was a decent to good arcade racer, with a simplified driving model which, at least, made some sense and provided some fun.
Dirt 1 was completely broken, car's reactions were completely incoherent, unpredictable and often made no sense; counter steering could either halt your car on the spot or leave you sliding sideways and off a cliff (same speed and terrain). Hitting the brakes on a straight would send you sliding forward forever but switching to Reverse instead had your car go from moving at 80mph forward to -30mph in Reverse in a matter of inches.

D2 was a huge improvement and i might pick 3 up, although i was expecting and hoping for a new Grid instead.

The hipster Block focus (I'm sure he's a great guy though) is one of the reasons I didn't buy Dirt 2. Now the focus seems even stronger. I'm not amused.

You can clearly see that codemasters is trying to put Ken Block in the colin mcrae position.
For a younger and more X-Games radiance.

I'm surprised that they don't use Pastrana. He and Shaun White are the most popular current X Games athletes.

The focus seems stronger? How did you come to that conclusion?

Nice. I've been meaning to pick up Dirt 2, but at this point I might as well wait...

I'm kind of amazed by how many racing games I have/want right now. I was never much into the genre until I got my 360.
Buy DiRT 2 it's so worth it, also should be a good price now (it's sub £10 on pc lately)

wait so Evolution lost WRC license...

and Milestone really ? the shitty motorcycles games dev making this ..do not want.

Agreed. I was under the impression that they would switch back and forth every year. Dirt to Grid to Dirt 2 to Grid 2 to Dirt 3 and so on. Really would love a sequel.
Grid 2 would clash with F1 2010 so it's best to get Dirt 3 out there first.

Loved DiRT 2, but more pure rally stages Codemasters!

It's Rally Racing, or is that Rallying? oh wait it's definitely Rally Racing............

I'm so confused :lol

Codemasters single handedly destroyed the Colin McRae franchise that we knew and loved, I just hope they have seen and rectified the mistakes they have made and going from that teaser.......they haven't :(

Well, at least it looks like the driver is driving point to point stages at the beginning of the teaser. You know, DiRT had a championship mode with, I think, over 70 pure point to point stages. I just hope they make a mode like that in DiRT 3.

It certainly needs more actual rallying than this Xtreme bullshit.

Also, I don't get why codemasters feel the need to release CG promos. They have arguably the best graphics in the genre in their games... shit looks real at times.

The visuals in the trailer seem possible, the scenery in Dirt 2 is already stunning especially when using ultra settings on the PC, throw in some supersampling and you could match the trailer for picture quality.

Can't tell much from the trailer outside of weather and snow being included but I hope they stick with the rally cars more then buggys and trucks, while entertaining I love to do rally stages in Dirt 2 more then anything else.

Do they change the title to "Ken Block DiRT 3"?

That's exactly what I was thinking of when I was watched that trailer.

Also, when I think about what a rally game needed it was explosions. Wait what?

the explosion was a bit ominous but they did say that they were going for more of a european rally feel with this one, which would imply ditching the X games shit.

Yeah now we will be drifting to hit tennis balls out of a statue's hand or driving rings around a posh garden's water fountain! wooooooo

Yeop. The original Colin McRae DiRT was superb, then they introduced this whole X-Games / Ken Block shit and ruined it.

Really hoping it has more focus on actual rallying or something more in the vain of Rally Sport Challenge 2. I love racing in the different vehicles, but the structure of DiRT 2 and all the commercialised 'I'm Ken Block!!' shit gets shelved. Go back to DiRT 1 style, same physics as DiRT 2, variety of vehicles and I'm interested. DiRT 2 got really old really fast.

Sounds awesome. I love the pyrotechnics going off in London.

You guys seem to be overreacting. The vast majority of the video is exactly what you want out of the game. The X-games stuff made up a small section of the video... a video that debuted during the X-games broadcast.

If they can avoid the stupid recycling of Stadium events and focus on more 'point to point' stuff they maybe ok. They are obviously going to have some style events with the stupid Plane Hanger like stuff which I don't mind it's just if they keep recycling the same track stadiums like they did in 2 that'll drive me up the wall.

I don't understand the fascination with Ken Block. Just hoping they offer some variety this time around.

They should look at bringing back some repair time between races, thrash your car in the first leg and suffer for it on the next since you can only fix your wheels and suspension.

Cool video, confirming weather effects is a nice surprise plus I'm curious to see how the game will look like now that it's based on the Ego 2.0 engine - DiRT 1 & 2 looked amazing.

I loved the two previous games...all we need now is more rally races and more Greece stages. :D

Weather effects and more types of surfaces (and the gymkhana thing) ought to give it some variety. The main issue with Dirt 2 though I feel was the tracks. Some were pretty good, but it needed more, needed longer. After 10 hours or something it started feeling like a grind.

Did they ever release any unstupid DLC for Dirt 2?

Also looks to confirm the piss filter. :\

I actually like the "piss" filter in Dirt. It has no place in Grid or F1. But in the Dirt 2 thread, those screenshots without it, look inferior IMO.

For what I see on the pc release, nope, just unlock codes.

This is what I hate about DLC, some good games out there deserve to see some well made DLC, need for speed shift has a meaty Ferrari DLC pack which gives a load of content single and multi based, if only Dirt 2 had a rally track pack or something.

Just wanted to confirm that there is more traditional point to point rally in DiRT 3, a lot more.

The first magazine previews in OXM, OPM and Edge (out later this week) will confirm that :)

YEEEEEEES! I love you. Hopefully a championship mode to!?

Yeah I wish Codemasters would do something like that. DLC support for Dirt, Grid and Dirt 2 were all pretty poor. Too bad too, because I would have bought new tracks for all of those games.

Tnx for the explanation!:D

Dirt 2 was amazing. Its probably my favorite racing game of this generation. I really liked the first Dirt, but the 2nd was fantastic. I know there are other Rally car games out there, but i love the arcadey feel of the Dirt games. Really looking forward to this.

I loved both DiRT games and I could not be happier that they are making a third. Adding weather is a very cool thing in my book.

It was kind of a given feature since Dirt 2 has left over code related to weather, rain and window wipers plus the F1 engine uses rain too, I hope they can do some sort of dynamic dry to wet mud effect so powder can become mush, puddles get bigger, grass becomes slippery and so on.

Thanks for the confirmation. The mix of rain and snow alone should add a lot more variety. I'd also like to see a return of the 1v1 crossover tracks from Dirt1 - it would be a lot of fun to be able to race those online.
