Update: PR and screenies in post 16

Someone should make a thread, right?

Was announced at the Sony conference.

Coming next year. Move support. 3D support.

I would guess it's coming to multiple platforms also. edit - apparently not, for now

No other info. I expect we'll get PR and hopefully media very shortly.

3DS please.

Virtua Tennis' gameplay is shallow pick-up-and-play tennis basically perfect for handhelds. Let's just hope they do something about the chore of endless mini-game playing in career mode.

Also, it is apparently playable if Kotaku is to be believed, so we should probably get announcement/media and impressions sometime soon. Maybe.

If it's announced as a console game, I can only assume Sumo. No thanks.

Hitmaker arcade release first or pass.

Hopefully the gameplay will be more similar to VT2/World Tour than 3/2009.

Having recently discovered the genre king Smash Court Tennis, I'm not as stoked for this as I would've been a couple weeks ago.

Might be cool with Move support, though!

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (August 17th, 2010) –SEGA® of America, Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd. are thrilled to announce that the critically acclaimed Virtua TennisTM series is in development for PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, featuring full PlayStation®Move compatibility and 3D technology. Developed in Japan by the original Virtua Tennis Team, Virtua Tennis 4, releasing in 2011, promises a more immersive, true to life tennis experience than ever before.

Virtua Tennis 4 with the PlayStation Move is more than just hitting the ball; it’s about the angle of the racquet, the spin and speed of the ball and the power of the shot. The advanced motion sensors of PlayStation Move precisely track both the fast and subtle movements of the controller allowing for pinpoint accurate shots as players improve their racquet skills. Virtua Tennis 4 will also support 3D technology delivering unprecedented realism to the tennis experience, bringing you closer than ever to being out on the court.

“Virtua Tennis 4 is a fantastic example of how our 3rd Party partners are seeing the potential not just in PlayStation Move, but also 3D,” said Simon Rutter, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing at SCEE. “The combination of both Move and 3D offers an entirely new gaming experience and one that has the potential to completely change how people interact with their entertainment. Virtua Tennis 4 shows how this technology can be implemented and we are very excited to be working with SEGA on this.”

“We have always strived to provide a tennis experience that is both true to the sport and great fun to play, and we are continuing to work with Sony to make this happen”, commented Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America. “With Virtua Tennis 4 being developed for PlayStation Move and featuring 3D technology, the boundaries of realism in sports video games are being pushed even further”.

With a host of additional features and the full player line-up to be revealed in the coming months, Virtua Tennis 4 is slated for release in 2011 and will be available on PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system.

Virtua Tennis 4 is currently being shown at the Sony Computer Entertainment Europe consumer stand in Hall 07.1 of the Cologne Trade Fair Center at Gamescom 2010 trade fair for interactive games and entertainment.

Is it me or does it look worse than VT3? or has it just been that long.

Either way, with Move and 3d support, its a must buy for me.

ps3 exclusive? PR reads like exclusive.
doubt it. theres no "only for ps3" in there. 360 too most likely.

Probably won't turn out that way.

But it does sound almost like it's Move exclusive, which is quite a coup for it.
True, I just dont see how kinect will be a success.

Well, nothing to do with Kinect really.

They could make a version with gamepads. But Move should be a perfect fit, so...

I wasn't the biggest fan of VF3 but I could go for a new one. It actually looks pretty good.

Oh shit I just saw it's done by the original team. DAY FUCKING 1!

Tennis is the reason I want PS Move. No Grand Slam Tennis HD from EA means I'm very interested in this one...

It's mentioned in the PR that it's going to be compatible with Move but I don't see where it's said to be exclusively playable with Move.

I'm sure 360 controller/DS3 will work fine as it has in the past, I'm just saying It's kinda worrying when a game like VT4 might not work with Kinect. It's not like it's a RTS or something.

Probably not exclusive. When they don't use the word, it usually isn't. Remember Lost Planet 2, Metal Gear Solid: Rising and so on. Announced on one conference where they make it sound like an exclusive, without using the actual word and therefore technically not lying.

How are you goign to control it well? The cool thing about move is we can get the motion controls and still have control over the movement of the player.

Excellent news that it's a proper new VT (hence the 4) by Sega themselves. We need more of this behaviour Sega, get good again!!

One hardcore game on the way, it didn't even take 18 months :lol

:D

ive been looking for a good console tennis game, after hot shots tennis i need another. Hopefully they'l be a bigger roster of characters than previous games

Have a fun! Enjoy!
Is this Move only or does it support DS3 as well? Cos those are two radically different control systems to build the game upon. I don't see how they can support both and not break the game in the process.

Edit - sounds like Move only here.
