As is customary in week 39, EA bring down the curtain on Q3 with the launch of FIFA.

'FIFA 18’ debuts at No1 and of the 5 versions launched the PS4/Xbox One editions account for 97% of sales units – PS4 alone accounts for 60% (up from 53% last year), helped in part by a varied selection of official ‘FIFA 18’ hard bundles. The Switch version is a first for EA and Nintendo and the PS3/360 versions become legacy editions. Activision’s ‘Destiny 2’ drops to No2 after 3 weeks at the top. Microsoft’s ‘Forza Horizon 3’ climbs 6 places to No3 driven by many hardware/software bundles that also offer ‘FIFA 18’. 2K/Take 2 drop one place to No4 with ‘NBA 2K18’ whilst Rockstar/Take 2 move up one place to No5 with ‘GTA V’. Bandai Namco debuted at No2 last week with ‘Project Cars 2’ and this week fall to No7. Microsoft’s ‘Halo 5: Guardians’ re-enters the chart at No11 thanks to some heavy hardware/software bundling linked to FIFA. The only other new release to enter the Top 40 this week is NIS America’s PS4/Vita ‘Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony’ at No36.

How is gtav still charting so high after all these years? How is there anyone left in the world who hasn't already bought at least one copy of the game?

You know I did not buy GTAV yet... there are tons of people like me and it is probably the default game for new console purchases.

I just realised, the 360 version of Fifa sold better than the Switch version.

That ain't right.

I think its telling that the 360 version sells better than the PS3 one, which would make sense as more PS3 owners in the UK have made the move to PS4, whereas 360 owners haven't been doing the same with the XB1 (i'm sure some 360 owners have jumped to PS4 also)

Nice bump for Forza Horizon 3, but I still think Forza 7 might have a hard time beating Fifa next (this) week.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
10 Switch titles in the UK Top 40...what a time to be alive.

Forza Horizon is one of the most important franchises that MS now own.

Crazy to still see it charting 12 months after release. Amazing job Playground!

Overall thats a pretty solid chart, with some doing better than others. Wonder what the expectations and results will be for AC, Wolf, BF2 etc?

No chance it beats FIFA18. Even with a 75% drop FIFA would still put up over 200k which FM7 will not come close to hitting. If it is close to FH3 it should be considered a success.

While it's selling good, it's also the default Xbox bundle since around February

Whats with the random Need for Speed re-enter in Germany? Was it free or something. Game is nearly a year old now.

Horizon 3 has been an amazing run for that franchise. It's a week before the release of 7, no?

Could be that many buyers buy it every two years (like phones) and one group is just 10% larger than the other, or the release of new consoles and digital distribution threw the scale out of whack the past 4 years.

Ugh, pretty low for Danganronpa, I was hoping it made top 20. How was Ys?

At least position-wise it is a little down on Danganronpa 2 but for a niche game at a high price in a busy period of releases it is pretty decent that it charted at all.

If you think Danganronpa did badly it is probably best you don't ask about Ys...

EA's ‘FIFA 18' takes a second week at No1 and actually has a stronger week 2 than last year because FIFA 17's week 2 coincided with Take 2's biggest new release of 2016, which pulled sales away from FIFA (‘Mafia III' was new at No2 in week 40, 2016 and was the 8th biggest week 1 unit seller of 2016).

There are 5 new releases within the Top 40 this week, the first of which is Microsoft's ‘Forza Motorsport 7' for Xbox One debuting at No2. ‘Forza Motorsport 6' also debuted at No2 two years ago back in week 38, 2015 and last year's ‘Forza Horizon 3' also debuted at No2 (week 39, 2016) and currently sits at No3 this week thanks to the popularity of the ‘Xbox One S FH3 Hotwheels' hardware bundle.

The second big new release of the week is Warner's PS4/Xbox One ‘The Lego Ninjago Movie Videogame' debuting at No7 and this franchise switches from hand-held console to home console release for the first time (the 3 previous Ninjago games have appeared on DS, 3DS and Vita) – this new Ninjago game arrives a week before the movie hits UK cinema screens.

The third release of the week is Nintendo's 3DS ‘Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions' debuting at No19. The fourth new release and debuting at No31 on 3DS is the 8th title within the Professor Layton series, entitled ‘Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy'.

The final new release of the week within the Top 40 is Capcom's ‘Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen HD' for PS4/Xbox One, an update from 2013's original release on PS3/360.

Level5 couldn't have done a better job at botching the western release of this game....

Forza Motorsport 7's first week on sale is weaker than the series has posted in recent years, which would typically be a cause for concern if it wasn't for the fact it is having to fight off fierce competition from its own sister title.

Forza Horizon 3 is bundled with Xbox One S at the moment, and the hardware combo is doing good business for Xbox - which is why the game is at No.3 more than a year since it came out.

Forza Horizon > Forza Motorsport

FIFA 18 - 258,000 / 1,089,000 (-69%)
FIFA 17 - 232,700 / 1,340,700 (-79%)

Really cool to see both Forzas in the top 3!

One thing I do find a bit strange though is I dont think I've seen a TV spot for FM7 yet? They're normally everywhere pre and post launch week.

FIFA 17 - 232,700 / 1,340,700 (-79%)

It's not a surprise that Forza Horizon is becoming more popular than Forza Motorsport. It's much easier to sell it to a casual player by giving him a chance to explore a beautiful open world rather than focus his attention on "serious" racing on real tracks. FM7 actually borrowed some stuff from Horizon by changing how the menus looks and what some events are about. I can't say I'm a fan of this, I would prefer if both series remained different.

How is gtav still charting so high after all these years? How is there anyone left in the world who hasn't already bought at least one copy of the game?

Every new Console = High chance the First game is GTAV

That console varies between PS3 , X360 , PS4 , X1 , any level of gaming PC/Laptop

Maybe saving them for Xbox One X release week?

Hadn't thought of that. It surprised me as I've actually seen a few GTS spots on Sky Sports etc. Yeah, they might be keeping their powder dry until the X releases, and have a bit of a blowout with FM7, AC:O and Middle Earth: SoW. Will it hurt week one sales though?
