Nice to see it performing well given it's rather lackluster sales in the US.
Its debut month was similar to Super Star Ultra.
I imagine it could do similar numbers as well.

I would have thought the Kirby and Donkey Kong LTD would have been the other way around. Great to see Donkey Kong performing and hopefully it won't be another 13(?) years before we receive another DKC.

Also, how does DKCR compare to Jungle Beat's LTD?

Jungle beat's LTD is around 240k if I remember correctly..

About our prediction game, we have finished this year with the week this thread covers, so I'm thinking on doing some overall rankings. Since I didn't do anything for 2009 I think I'm doing a 2009 ranking, a 2010 ranking, and an overall ranking covering both. Although we usually just count victories this time I'm counting medals (gold, silver, bronze) so there's more variation, olympics style ranking of going by number of gold medals, then silver ones, then bronze ones. But I haven't done it yet so I'd like to hear some suggestions (if there are) that you would like to see so I can try to include them if feasible.

And we know that NSMB DS sold about 27'000 from the previous thread. It missed the top 20, but not by much. Amazing. And no Christmas bump for Super Mario All-Stars.

PSP was the best selling console of 2010 in Japan. That is unless the week of 12/27/10-1/02/11 counts and DS sells about 20,000 more than PSP

The week we're in now is going to count as a 2010 week, at least according to media-create and Chris. So the PSP vs. DS battle is still not over.

Regardless of who will win the DS vs PSP battle in 2010, i think that the PSP has made a great achievement anyway since it is the only system that managed to do sell more this year compared to 2009.

Supply constraints perhaps? I know that it's out of stock pretty much everywhere in the US at least (since I can't find a bloody US copy to save my life :( )

If you care so much for HW battles these are the traching periods.

Famitsu
2010 1…52 {2009.12.28 - 2010.12.26}
It ended last week

Media Create
2010 1…52 {2010.01.04 - 2011.01.02}
It ends this week

1 week (?) of data left.
One week, the previous. If Famitsu is close to Media Create DS won there. Next week we will know for Media Create year results.

Results Guidelines:
- Gold medal for the 1st position in a ranking by units or points
- Silver medal for the 2nd position in a ranking by units or points
- Bronze medal for the 3rd position in a ranking by units or points
- Each prediction week contains a ranking by units and points, thus awarding 2 medals of each metal.
- All rankings are listed by gold medals, then by silver medals and finally by bronze medals.

2009 Guidelines:
- 7 weeks of predictions + 1 monthly prediction (with just ranking by units)
- 11/09-11/15 week there's a tie at #1 in the units ranking between Kurosaki Ichigo and Chris1964 so two gold medals are awarded and no silver.

Will it be SEs last "bomba" on DS ? I would be surprised if it sells more than 70k in it's first week, am i too pessimistic ?

WHOO HOOOOO

On a serious note, it really is amazing how relevant Nintendo hardware and software gets in December. I wasn't one of those thinking PS3>Wii easily in 2010 like a lot did, but I definitely thought this was the PS3's year hardware wise. Whoops.

In Japan yes, but worldwide I'm pretty sure the Prime series has sold more than 4-5 million combined. Not to say DKCR can't sell even more.

The PS3's chances died along with GT5's legs.

On the subject of overall Nintendomination, I just saw an interesting observation:

Latest weekly no. 1s:

51 - [PSP] MHP3rd
50 - [PSP] MHP3rd
49 - [PSP] MHP3rd
48 - [PSP] MHP3rd
47 - [PS3] GT5
46 - [PS3] Black Ops
45 - [PSP] Tactics Ogre
44 - [PSP] God Eater: Burst
43 - [PSP] God Eater: Burst

Sony gets the top spot, but that is all.

PS3 keeps tanking probably because they half assed the Move. First the Go, now the Move Sony can't seem to launch anything right these days.

Things aren't really that dire for the PS3 like you are making it out to be. They almost kept pace this year with the Wii in Japan.

On the subject of overall Nintendomination, I just saw an interesting observation:

Latest weekly no. 1s:

51 - [PSP] MHP3rd
50 - [PSP] MHP3rd
49 - [PSP] MHP3rd
48 - [PSP] MHP3rd
47 - [PS3] GT5
46 - [PS3] Black Ops
45 - [PSP] Tactics Ogre
44 - [PSP] God Eater: Burst
43 - [PSP] God Eater: Burst

Sony gets the top spot, but that is all.

Adding Top 20 sales in December I think PS3+PSP games are selling better than Wii+DS.

Yes, it's mostly thanks to MHP3 but one MHP3 game sold counts the same as any other game.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

PS3 keeps tanking probably because they half assed the Move. First the Go, now the Move Sony can't seem to launch anything right these days.
So without Move Ps3 would be sellin more now ? I dont understand why an optional controller should have negative impact on the plattform.

You probably misread, he said PS3 is selling as if Move (casual-friendly peripheral which should have boosted sales) never existed.

DKCR may reach a million in Japan. Hoping that WW it matches the sales of the original Donkey Kong Country. It's a tough climb, it will have to keep selling small amounts every week for years after the first year. I think DKCR will eventually pass Twilight Princess WW which will be kind of interesting.

Erm okay, but there is already a market for that on Wii - i cant see how Move would have changed that, when most Ps3 Users probably already own a Wii and have access to Nintendos First Party Casual titles.

Nintendo's done a good job reminding Japanese customers what makes the Wii Remote so special and more compelling than Move. The Wii Sports Resort Wiimote+ bundle is the best example why, and Wii Party is another good one.

There isn't much, if any compelling content for Move in Japan right now. I look at all the games available and the overall marketing behind it, and they just aren't compelling at all. It looked somewhat promising before launch, but I think the PS3's momentum from a few months ago (defined as such by outselling the Wii) in retrospect had little to do with Move.

If Sony is sincere about making the PS3 a motion control console that can be taken seriously, then they need to start making Move a default inclusion with the system, much like Nintendo needs to make the Classic Controller Pro a default inclusion to stop confusing consumers with different bundles and what-not.

The problem with Move is clear, they kind of threw it out there as an alternate controller for people who want it rather than launching a new killer experience. I really don't see how they thought that would do anything but bring in the kind of numbers that reflect exactly that.

I don't think the PS3 sales numbers can be blamed on Move alone, though. Hopefully 2011's wave of content will have Sony seeing much higher numbers. They need to do something.

Things aren't really that dire for the PS3 like you are making it out to be. They almost kept pace this year with the Wii in Japan.
This December couldn't be worse for PS3.
