Aisha Tyler, actress and host of Ubisoft's E3 2012 press conference posted this on Facebook.
C/O Patrick Klepek

If you don't like Facebook, it's here in its entirety.

Dear Gamers,

I play.

I've played since I was a little kid.
Since I begged my dad to buy me a Nintendo LCD Donkey Kong, Jr.
Since I blew through three weeks' allowance playing Defender at the laundromat.
Since you were a twinge in the left side of your daddy's underoos.

I've been a gamer since I made friends with a girl in the 5th grade just to get at her Atari.
Since I missed the bus playing Galaga after school.
Since I missed the start of Return of the Jedi playing Tempest in the theater lobby.

You think you know. You don't know.

I've been a gamer since before you could read.
Since I aced midterms after staying up all night playing Evil Tetris.
Since I became dorm champ at Leisure Suit Larry.
Since I double-wielded on Time Crisis 3 at Fuddrucker's.

I was a voice in not one, but two major video game titles.
I hosted the Reach Beta tutorial.
I was a Gears of War superfan panelist at ComicCon.
I hosted the Ubisoft presser at E3 2012.
I didn't do any of it for the money.
For most I got paid next to nothing, and for some, less than that.

I did it because I love video games.
Because I've dreamt since I was a kid of being in one of the games I love.
How many games have you done voices for?
How many cons have you repped at?
Your buddy's Unreal Tournament garage deathmatch doesn't count.

I go to E3 each year because I love video games.
Because new titles still get me high.
Because I still love getting swag.
Love wearing my gamer pride on my sleeve.
People ask me what console I play.
Motherfucker, ALL of them.

I get invited to E3 because real gamers know I'm a gamer.
I don't do it for the money.
I have plenty of money.
I don't do it for the fame.
Fuck fame.
I do it because I love video games.

I don't give out my gamertag because I don't want a mess of noob jackholes lining up
to assassinate me on XBL.
I don't give a shit what you think about my gamerscore.
I don't play to prove a point.
I don't play to be the best.
I play because I love it.

I play.
I've been playing my whole life.
I'm not ashamed of it.
I don't apologize for it.
It's who I am.
To the core.
I'm a gamer.

So to all the haters out there who claim I don't play;
To the GAF dicks,
Gamespot trolls,
To every illiterate racist douchebag on Youtube:
Flame away. Go nuts.
Post every jackass comment your heart desires.
I'll still be playing when your mom's kicked you out of her basement
and you have to sell your old-ass console
and get a real job.

For now, I say to you respectfully,
and I mean this from the bottom of my heart,
GFYS.

Lock if not relevant enough.

It might just be me, but unless that was written by her rep, it seems she might just play for real. In any case, what do you think?

Good for her... What's her gamerscore?

I didn't have a problem with her at all! It was that stupid prick backstage that I hated.

I still don't think she's a gamer. No PSN ID, Steam, Gamertag, friend code, anything. Oh look I played old games I'm a gaaaammmeeerrrr.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Why wouldnt she be a gamer ? Because she is a hot woman ?

Although I believe her, saying "I'm a gamer, because -name of a videogame- was like really good you guys, I really enjoy my -name of console- also" is kind of pointless. Anyone could write that if you gave them Wikipedia and 30 minutes.

I'm a GAF dick, and I smiled when I saw Aisha Tyler come on stage at Ubi. She was a perfect fit, or would've been if not for other issues that weren't her fault.

Who fucking cares? Why the fuck does she have to be a real gamer? Who the fuck has said anything on Gaf about this, and why?

The world may never know.

Were people assuming she wasn't a gamer? In the end I don't really care if she is or not. I do think it is a bit sad that apparently people are trying to force her to "prove" that she is.

I am so sick and tired from celebrities suddenly stating that they play video games as of it was a shameful thing to admit.

Well guess what . NO ONE FREAKING CARES BY THIS POINT !!

I thought it was well known that she is. :/

Then again with the daily variations around here on what constitutes hardcore and casual gamers, or "true gamers" and "true fans"...I sometimes wonder even if I am. :p

I like her a lot but I thought she was a bad fit for the conference. The ridiculous guy was worse. I just don't think they should try to get funny people to host these conferences. It's not fun. It's not funny.

Yes, excellent point; Clearly this is a preemptive strike on her part and not a reaction to some bullshit.

To the GAF dicks

GAF made her lose her girl wood.

I never thought she wasn't a gamer, but from some of the things she said I thought she was a jackass. That big rant just reinforces that opinion.

Guys, Aisha Tyler is a gamer.

Yeah, she sure seems like it. Even back at the presser, she didn't seem bored with what she was doing...which was surprising.

Yep. That was the cringe-worthy part of Ubi's presser. I'm guessing it's an annual thing for them to bring the awkwardness for some reason.

I dunno, I don't hate "everything" as much as most people on Gaf, so I don't really consider her trying to pass herself off as hardcore.

I mean, Jimmy Fallon gets ripped to shred since he plays games like an ass, but at least he gets it on TV without making it look like games are murder simulators or they're only played by socially-inept people.

Now, regarding if he's funny or not, that's a different matter altogether.

A Pretty Panda

fuckin' called it, man
Wow she calls out gaf specifically. Don't know why people think celebs who show up at E3 are fake and stuff.

Aisha if you are reading this I thought you were fine at the Ubi presser.

also you're really pretty, call me maybe?

I don't care, I have always liked her since she appeared on Friends and she was pretty good at the Ubisoft conference I thought. You go, girl.

:(

It makes me really sad that she felt like she had to write this.

A famous, attractive, black female can't stand up on stage at a gaming expo without people throwing really hateful words at her.

That just sucks. Why do gamers suck?

She was great during the conference, not sure what the hate is about.

As stated multiple times before, the other host was annoying as shit.
