It does look really good but I'd rather see a new gameplay trailer, preferably one of their RDR style ones. I guess we'll have to wait for the PR campaign to ramp up sometime early next year first.

I've never played more than the first mission in SA. I think I'm gonna go for a play through. Gonna get the mac version and use the PS3 controller. Gonna be awesome!!

People raged about playing a black character? Oo

They didn't rage because that would be openly racist

But they found it very hard to relate to an urban character who liked rap

A cocaine addled disgraced mobster sent to Miami in exile on the other hand they found easy to relate to

It's also easier to relate to space marines or outright aliens Gods, don't forget!

Anyway in my personal experience, i remember most of the kids were hostile to any new GTA protagonist, always asking "why can't we have *previous GTA character* instead?!" only to repeat the same process for the GTA after that one.

I remember when GTASA came out, many bitched because they wanted to use Tommy instead of CJ, yet when GTA4 came out, people were demanding to use CJ instead of Niko.. sure enough now i've read a lot of people wanting to use Niko in GTA5.
I guess after several hours of play time, hardcore fans get seriously attached to the protagonist.

It was much worse at Gamefaqs, but you even saw some of it here. This was one of the more well known posts about it

The REAL problem is that black people ain't as cool as white/Italians perception wise. When you think white/Italian criminals; there is an aura of yeah.. the cool factor. Black people; you'd associate with slums and ghettos, pimps, druggies and all the really negative associations (WHICH they've been dealt an unfair hand with). Mention Harlem and nothing really good comes out in relationship to the area. Racial stereotypes are deeply ingrained IMO. White america will find it hard to deal with the theme. I personally can't watch black porn. GTA SA sounds like something I won't be able to get into. (But then I wasn't too impressed with GTA to go run out and buy VC).

I think once word gets out about the setting. This game won't sell that well. (DID DEF JAM sell well?) Fact that Manhunt sold like crap is also indicative that maybe the lustre on violent games is wearing out.

It's worth pointing out that San Andreas would go on to be the best selling game of last gen.

Next you will be saying we could have an Asian main character in an open world game.

That would be wei weird.

I'm kind of surprised GTA never did one, tbh. There was the guy in Chinatown Wars, but I was sure they would do Asian by now. They've done Italian(twice), a Mute, African American(twice), Jewish, Puerto Rican, and more. I don't know if they'd be willing to do female because of the majority of their demographic(though I could see a female lead in DLC).

I'd like to see someone from the Caribbean also. Badman was my favorite GTA 4 character.

Gah! Amazing post! I really wanted that comparison- and it indeed does look like a nice evolution of San Andreas. I've been playing SA with the Rage mod, and it is pretty neat although crashes frequently. The Leisure screens look so awesome!

But thanks for the side by side shots!

I hope we play as a black dude again just for the nerd rage.

Man, still hilarious/sad to this day.

Los Santos is inspired in Los Angeles, and you know already the high weight of the black culture in Los Angeles. I will be surprised if we don´t have a black character.

You know,GTA V, V different characters.

Yeah. that middle aged white Ned Luke guy is in the Jet cockpit, yet the dude with the parachute looks like he's black (or at least Latino).

Now, the one on the bike and the two tennis players could very well be npcs, but i doubt there will be NPCs parachuting there, dressed like that, so it has to be a playable character.
Could be multiplayer, but i'm ready to bet on multiple characters too.

If they do multiple characters, how deep will customization be? I imagine each character will have a different body model. You'd have to model the same shirt for 4-5 characters, or do you do less clothes but more character specific outfits?

Ps2 graphics indeed.
Remember also that GTA:SA broke several Ps2, because it didn't had loading screens and the lens was constantly under pressure to stream data in.

Yeah, yeah it broke my PS2... =(

Haven't played FFX since it happened (back in like 2007?). Still never completed FFX-2

Ahah holy shit that post is a trainwreck.
Even putting the racial idiocy aside, "the lustre on violent games is wearing out" and "This game won't sell that well".
Yeah right.

I don't know, but Sleeping Dogs spoiled me, ton of good stuff in that one.
GTA4 was very lacking in customization (and the expansions were worse, in this regard).
RDR was also not amazing with only premade complete outfits.

I think they could have, say, 3 characters each with his/her wardrobe of selected clothing, so that you have customization options but keep a certain grounded feeling and consistency with the character (so the middle aged white dude will not wear a hoodie with a skull on it and viceversa).

So we have large areas of wilderness; mountains, coniferous forest areas and rivers... plenty of hiding places for a certain hairy humanoid like mythic creature to hang out :0)

I honestly hope that Rockstar stays away from ridiculous customizations with GTA V.

I actually had a thought earlier today that it would be interesting if the characters had significant age gaps. This older guy, a younger man in his mid/late twenties maybe (a more common criminal archetype) and possibly a teenager (set the plot during summer and school is eliminated). Off that theory, I'd say outfits would be character specific. Not to mention the characters will undoubtedly come from different backgrounds and probably all be a different race.

This, all assuming the game does indeed have multiple protagonists. (I'm betting three guys.)

..Right, changing clothes and hairstyle is ridiculous? I'm not expecting fat/slim either, but for example CJ's hair styles were all believable for the caharcter, so were the clothes.
GTAIV simply had a very limited selection.

Moreover, if they won't let me use that gym on the beach, seen in the trailer, i'll be mad.

I never said it was ridiculous; just don't enjoy making the character look different than what they are.

I think they may.

It'll be very interesting to see if it's coming to WiiU. If they can't get GTA, it's time to start getting concerned about their third party support.

As much as I love Nintendo... I think this past E3 is all you need to see to be concerned about 3rd party support. Supposedly we haven't seen 2013 games, or a couple of launch window titles.

But from what we have seen? I expect to get ports where logical. Not much more than. Kind of like a Wii situation, but not exactly the same because of the similarity of hardware in WiiU and Orbis/Durango. Should make porting easier, but it's still far from a guarantee.

At this point I'd be very shocked to see WiiU get GTAV. Even though big name series are some of the few you can be guaranteed to see success with on Wii.

Seems like they learned quite a bit from RDR as far as natural environments and lighting goes. As others said, this game looks pretty massive. I'm a lot more excited now than when I saw the first trailer reveal. Probably helps that we're further removed from GTA IV.
