Media Create Sales: Week 4, 2014 (Jan 20 - Jan 26)

Well... there's Smash Bros. And probably the introduction of 2DS in Japan. This would also be a good year for a Player's Choice line at $19 to beef up software sales.

Mario Golf, Yoshi, Smash, plus we're still waiting on what Monolith Soft's 3DS title will be. 2014 should be a good year for 3DS. I don't think a sequel to 3D Land is out of the question.

Yeah Smash should be big. The 3ds really should have a Player's Choice line by now. It would really help boost the attach rate as new players buy into the system.

3DS so low is pretty surprising, wonder if 2DS will prop it back up. Nintendo has to be working on a successor as well right?

Utakumi 575 bombing makes me sad. The game is a TON of fun and has some really unique new features for a rhythm game.

Le sigh.

But I'm not surprised with that presentation. Probably turned off everyone who wasn't a super otaku, and it failed to sell much to even them because it doesn't a big name attached to it or something probably.

+ isn't it on iOS as well? Probably cannibalized some sales.

3DS year-over-year drop looks really bad because of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, that was a true system seller.

Code:
Famitsu Sales: Week 2, 2013 (Jan 07 - Jan 13)

[3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf # <ETC> (Nintendo) {2012.11.08} (¥4.800) - 86.926 / 2.509.874 (-36%)

Famitsu Sales: Week 3, 2013 (Jan 14 - Jan 20)

[3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf # <ETC> (Nintendo) {2012.11.08} (¥4.800) - 97.808 / 2.607.682 (+13%)

Famitsu Sales: Week 4, 2013 (Jan 21 - Jan 27)

[3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf # <ETC> (Nintendo) {2012.11.08} (¥4.800) - 83.226 / 2.690.908 (-15%)

Famitsu Sales: Week 5, 2013 (Jan 28 - Feb 03)

[3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf # <ETC> (Nintendo) {2012.11.08} (¥4.800) - 76.039 / 2.766.947 (-9%)
Doesn't that make the 3DS baseline quite low though?
Krazy Ken, what have you done D:
This is what happened when you put a krazy engineer on CEO chair.
He did make the PS2 though which struggled in a lot of places, but not sales :p

Capcom can't imagine either.
I tell ya, I'd love to know what the craic is there. Not the MonHun stuff, I get that. What I don't get is Capcoms steadfast refusal to throw the Vita a bone in any way shape or form. If say, Tecmo Koei had released Sengoku Basara 4, there would definitely have been a Vita version. Probably would've done OK for 'em too, depending on how difficult the porting was.

I understand that the Vita isn't the most tempting platform for devs, even in Japan. Capcom however have shown a degree of disinterest in the platform that I feel is borderline strange.

I think PS3 passed WiiU again in hardware sales (launch aligned). Barring a miracle, things should stay this way.

Do we have any accurate sell through/shipped figures for Basara 4?

01./00. [PS3] Sengoku Basara 4 # <ACT> (Capcom) {2014.01.23} (¥6.990) - 157.326 / NEW <60-80%>

Between 196k and 261k copies shipped.

Once more:

WiiU and 3DS are for the fourth week in a row 30-50% below its 2013 performance, let's hope Iwatas Head will roll :)

PS3 is holding out somewhat well, PS Vita is doing great compared to last year, tough it seems to get most of the PSP Userbase, looking at the numbers.

Vita definitely has a place to live in Japan..

unfortunately Sony dropped the ball big time by not being able to secure Monster Hunter for the Vita. It's basically the one game that they need where a yearly release would basically mean steady hardware sales at "low 3DS number" level which is good enough.

Wii U back to 8k, good job Nintendo, you created an awesome momentum!
And 3DS is dangerously low, damn that's depressing to see.

Hey Monster Hunter became popular from the "bone" that Capcom threw to PSP, so we never know what will happen in this industry :)

I think people should be reminded of Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission on 3DS:

04./00. [3DS] Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission <TBL> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.02.28} (¥5.800) - 90.119 / NEW

Now at 265k.

Frankly I'm certain the next DB game will be on 3DS, I never thought a 3DS DB game would outdo a PS3+Vita DB game before this, DB Heroes just blew every other entry in the last 5-7 odd years?

Okay, if you really insist
People don't argue with me, they enter into a deferred agreement.

If you think it's fun to watch Dave argue with people about the Vita, just wait until he gets on about the 2013 Platformer Game of the Year and unofficial UK mascot.

Correct. My mistake. However, it doesn't change my point a bit. 40% is massive yoy.

It is, but as long as software sales remain high it's not really a huge problem. The 3DS already outsold the LTD numbers of Wii and PS3, it's only natural that market saturation is starting to set in. Especially considering the change of the market in general.

It's still the best-selling hardware every week and software sales are still pretty good, so I don't see a reason to worry. The 3DS is still doing just fine in Japan; its problems are in Europe and the US.

Hmm what is it with the Vita rise in Japan. Lots more support or something I assume.

Also yeah the WiiU is dead.

EDIT:Wait didn't 3DS have Dragon Quest VII this point last year. Could be a reason for the drop.

This is likely due to Street Fighter x Tekken Vita bombing hard.

The game was met with wide negative reception on consoles before its Vita release. Sony paid cash money to get exclusive characters for a limited time on the Vita thanks to an offer from Capcom's side before release .

However Sony's payment and Capcom's collab for the game didn't work out. Capcom was forced to release the exclusive characters far before the Vita release to shore up fan support that they had previously heavily damaged due to the game being a paymium shitfest (damaging the deal with Sony) and the game bombed on Vita (damaging the Capcom side of the deal).

That is likely one of the major reasons.

Doubt Capcom would base their decision to support a system on a fighting game port, and a game that wasn't received well on consoles at that.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
I just think Capcom doesn't have many internal teams left anymore, particularly many for porting duty. They managed to port Revelaitons to everything but Vita though, but just looking at the company's output in the past two years and you'll see something of a shocking downturn.

When you consider the exoduses behind Platinum, Tango, and Comcept, as well as teams like IntiCreates now on other books, they're not looking so hot.

Japan hasn't been the primary market for Dragon Ball games since the franchise's resurgence in the early 00s. Many of the earlier games sold well over there, but the aim was to always get international audiences. That is why there's been so many games on PS3/360 despite lackluster numbers domestically.

As for the 3DS, I'm sure it will get an Ultimate Mission sequel as the first game was out of date when it launched. Dragon Ball Heroes is an arcade trading card game that's apparently quite popular over there with the kids so it's not worth BN's time to try it on other platforms.

It wasn't just a port in Capcom's eyes though, they invested a significant amount of money into its marketing and the extra Vita features.

Not stranger than capcom on 3DS

You have monhun, gyakutei saiban, a bio game (mercenaries not really counting) and a day one port of SSF4

You'd expect a lot more from them, especially since they've all performed very well

If the Vita keeps this trend for some time then I guess we could say it's found its stride in Japan at least? It's keeping up nicely even after the holidays.

I get 38229 for the 3DS tally (3DSLL+3DS), not what is listed in the OP of this thread. Think someone - perhaps me - needs to check their math.
There are two different trackers, both listed in the OP. The first tracker, Media Create, has the 3DS at 38.229. The other tracker, Famitsu, has the 3DS at 39.484. So the numbers are correct :)

The notion that Capcom is (somehow) not supporting the 3DS well is hilarious. You expect a lot more from them? A lot more than single-handedly killing any possible competition for Nintendo in Japan? How many teams and active franchises do you think Capcom has?
I guess they should abandon their multiplatform console development strategy and give the 3DS mainline Resident Evil, DMC, Segoku Basara and Dragon's Dogma games because the 3DS surely can't be included in that multiplatform strategy for technical reasons.

Jesus Christ. EVERYTHING except the Vita is dogshit hardware-wise, even the 3DS. The PS4 can't come fast enough.

The 3DS is selling more than the Vita yet it is doing dogshit numbers?

Yes, I understand that the 3DS should be higher

holy christ those PS2 DBZ games. Looks like people just don't care anymore, even with the new movie.

Also, R.I.P traditional games in Japan

The notion that Capcom is (somehow) not supporting the 3DS well is hilarious. You expect a lot more from them? A lot more than single-handedly killing any possible competition for Nintendo in Japan? How many teams and active franchises do you think Capcom has?
I guess they should abandon their multiplatform console development strategy and give the 3DS mainline Resident Evil, DMC, Segoku Basara and Dragon's Dogma games because the 3DS surely can't be included in that multiplatform strategy for technical reasons.
Capcom's output on 3DS is strange because it's just random.

They could easily make a new portable RE using Revelations engine, yet they sat on it. They could have ported Zak and Wiki made a 3DS version of Basara (after all the Wii engine exists and it's obviously easy for them to go from Wii to 3DS since they've already done do in the past).

Many of their iOS games would also benefit from it (like the gng games or the new bof, hell even porting older bof games would work)

Yet they keep playing it extremely safe and stick to monhun and ace attorney.

quick breakdown.

So is the reason Wii U software sales are above the Vita's software sales because of the bundled content? Sure Mario 3D World sold 500k copies and Wii Party U & Taiko sold over 100K without the bundles, but where else would the software sales come from to hit 2.1m?

Can't figure out if Vita is doing good or 3DS is slacking. Either way its great to see Vita almost there, it deserves so much more than the existence Sony has given it.
