SMASHGAF RANBATS – SEASON TWO
The brackets should be all set up. Every player should be able to edit the results for the bracket. If you are unable to edit your bracket, please let me know and I will fix it.

The results of the first round are due by next Sunday, March 7th.

SETUP:
• Each player belongs to a bracket.
• Player names are listed as GAFNAME(NNID).
• Each week, you are responsible for playing one new person – of your choice - in your bracket by Sunday night.
• Record the score in Google Spreadsheets using the invitation you were provided with.
o 1 = Winner.
o 0 = Loser.
o The horizontal cells from your name are your score; the vertical is for reference against who you played against.
• The format is Round Robin – everyone plays everyone in their bracket once.

IN-GAME RULES:
• First to 5 wins takes the set.
• 1v1.
• Customs are legal, items and equipment are not.
• Either player may switch characters between matches.
• 2-stock with a 5-minute timer.
• In-game mechanics result in the stage decision (each player picks; game decides).

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:
• Be honest.
• Be respectful.

GROUNDS FOR REMOVAL:
• Dishonest score reports.
• Disrespectful conduct.
• Consistent failure to play matches on time.
• Consistent complaints about connection quality.

FAQ:
What should I do to try and find my matches?
PM people on NeoGAF! Try to work out times instead of hoping it all works out.

What if my opponent and I are having trouble making our match happen within the one-week period?
You have a two-week grade period to play each match, but do your best to play your match within the one-week period provided. If you do not play a match one week, you must play two the next to catch up.

Why is <Insert Rule> the case instead of <Insert Other Rule>?
Everything exists as it does because I feel it is a good policy. Nothing is cut into diamond, however, and if the majority player base feels a policy change is needed, I fully welcome discussion on the issue.

Can I join late?
Unless someone drops out mid-season, you will have to wait until the next season begins. There is no player cap, however, so you will be welcome to join when the next season begins.

Can I play ahead, or even finish my entire season right away?
Sure, go for it! I encourage this, actually.

Should I wire my connection?
Hell yes you should!

How were the brackets decided?
I tried to match people based on their results from the previous season. New players were given their own bracket. However, in the interest of having an even bracket spread, some new players were added to the lowest bracket level. This seemed more fair than giving them spots in higher ranked brackets.

What were the survey results?
Customs: 14 Yes, 6 No, 10 No Opinion
Halberd Legal: 21 Yes, 6 No, 3 No Opinion
Skyloft Legal: 18 Yes, 9 No, 3 No Opinion

The match length votes were:
13 in favor of FT5, 3 Stock.
10 in favor of FT5, 2 Stock.

The rest were all dispersed among the various other options. Given that these other options are all shorter than a FT5, 3 Stock, and that the Evo ruleset is 2 Stocks, I decided to cut matches down by 1 stock this season. This will help alleviate some time burden from longer sets, will ensure that ranbat play is better tuned for Evo relevancy, and will be more pleasing to the majority of the players involved.

I was banned last season. Is that ban permanent?
Banned players will be given a second, probationary chance to play in the ranbats after being prohibited from participation for one season. If the probationary player is banned, it will then become permanent.[/email]

I want to turn it off, but the best place to put jump is on the right trigger and doing short hops with an analog trigger is very inconsistent. I tried to move to my pro controller but I just hate that controller in general even if the triggers are properly digital. Think I'll need to buy the Hori, though I'll miss rumble.

By the way, did you hear any of what I was saying last night? I turned on the "z to talk" button during character select but for all I know the person on the other side has to turn theirs on to hear or something stupid.

Still baffling that Nintendo still doesn't get how to do game invites properly, something the 360 did in 2005.

This video was great... except for the part where they had to use custom equipment and rules to be able to play like that. The whole video I was thinking "wow, how are they managing to move around like that, how are they not dealing with landing lag on all these moves...", and as soon as I read the description that question was answered. I really don't know what prompted Sakurai to put so much landing lag on practically everything. I still regularly get punished because I airdodge into the ground out of habit.

Whenever the patch for tournament comes I hope we'll have both For Glory and For Fun for GAF, the For Glory Smash GAF tournament rule makes my Smash randomness itch ache XD

Haven't played too much recently because of the holidays, got some single player games to beat AND I wanna practice GGXrd some more (and I still kinda suck at it lol), but no johns. Gonna put some more heavy practice in after Christmas hopefully.

I have my pad Mic muted. I like it quiet. :)

Yup! I have it set to two buttons based on different situations. It is really helpful for Bowser. I played a fantastic DHD player earlier, and air dodge cancel through the clay pidgeon into Klaw was 50% of my kills.

Damn, I missed signing up for the GAF tournament because I didn't realize you'd been setting it up in the OT, I thought there would be a separate thread like you guys did with 3DS.

I know, but personally my enjoyment of the game just goes up ten-fold playing that mode. I made a thread on smashboards with instructions how to unlock the same equipment always with the same stats. I love playing like that, it just feels much better. You can chase and react even if your in the middle of an attack or in the air (fast fall actually falls fast). As soon as you get used to it the game becomes much better.

It's not really a tournament and more of a slower paced thing, so another thread for it might have been too excessive. I'd expect another thread for any straight up SSB4 NeoGAF tournament, though.
