DSi North American Launch Date: April 5th, 2009

My black DSi is confirmed for tomorrow by GAME

Apparently GAME branches are also offering free insurance on the system and £5 store credit when you trade in ANY 2 DS games

I have a few DS games I wont mind trading but I dont normally do insurance: should I do it?

Dammit!

I preordered at Gamestation cos I wanted GTA for £10, but how does insurance for the DSi work especially considering the online DSiWare aspect of the machine?

Plug? I meant this. For anyone with both that and a DSi, I'd just like to know, I don't play my DS without it.

Wow, that thing is a beast. Make sure it doesn't turn on you

Nice. What's browsing GAF like on the DSi? Quick? Slow? Horrible? Great? Mushy? Slimy?

Much faster than the old shitty DS browser thats for sure, not sure if my connection has improved since trying that or what but this one seems a lot better.

Top screen has sort of a zoomed out version and the bottom one has the zoomed in readable one that I clicked/hold down on the page and drag to read.

Tried going to my 'all on one page' image heavy site (no not porn :p) and it said the system is running low on memory and cannot display the page correctly, says to reload to try and display more of the page or delete some history. :\ So I dunno, maybe stay out of the heavy gif GAF topics if you're using it. ;(

To clarify, the deals are as follows:
  • If you trade in your DS Lite you get the DSi for Half Price
  • If you trade in any two DS games you get 25 quid to spend on anything including the insurance. You can do this multiple games so do 4 or 6 games.
  • The Insurance is £20 for 2 years, £30 for 3. It covers everything, Accidental and Technical, but not loss or theft. It's really comprehensive though, and I had it on my PSP and it covered me when I fucked up some homebrew stuff and bricked my system, so is well, well worthwhile, especially if you plan to do homebrew stuff.

Hmm, important question, does the DSi fit into the Hori DSLite stand?

I had the same question a few weeks (I think in the Accessory thread), but I didn't really get an answer. Maybe we're the only two cool people that have the stand and are planning on getting a DSi. I'm assuming that since that stand is compatible with the original DS, it will at least fit, but it might not be as snug as it should be. I'll let you know next week.

Thanks!

I noticed the Action Replay doesn't work either, Nintendo are on a rampage!

Speaking of accessories, whats a good case to get for the DSi? I want one that can hold some games as well as I like to carry round a few with me. I planned to do a Play-Asia order soon anyway, might as well look for one there.

Are any of you guys going to post some pictures of your local midnight launch? I may try to click one or two on my cell phone if I remember to do so. I'm interested in what sort of crowds will be out.

Heck, how have the crowds been around the world so far?

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

I plan on getting a picture or two if they have any sort of line. I just hope I'm on the only person there at midnight.

I plan on getting all of the launch titles from the DSi shop. What is everyone else downloading on day 1?

Gamestop near me still has some pre-orders available... guess I'll try and swing by after work. I wish it weren't so darn cold still. :| Does anyone know if there is a retailer offering more than $70 trade-in for the original DSlite?

I already have Brain Age, and I don't know what's up with Master of Illusion (even though it sounds kind of neat), but I'm getting everything else.

GameCrazy is offering $90.

I've been messing around with the sound section and there are really neat touches. Makes me wish the iPod had a visualiser. Recording sound samples is fun, but then again I just love the sound of my own voice.

I've admittedly not paid much attention to this thread, but have a couple quick questions,

Whats the highest limit of storage on an SD card that the DSi can take?
Can DSiWare be stored on the SD card and played from/transferred over from the SD card? Or does it only stay in the on-board storage?

DSi supports SDHC card, so the limit is 32 GB. Yes, you can store the DSiWare games on the SD card, but you can't play the games from it.

How do you mean? Is it done like the Wii where it shoots them into the onboard flash or do you have to move them to play them?

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

It sounds like how the Wii worked originally.

I've got a UK model and I can't connect to the DSIWare shop. It's coming up with error message: 313404. My Wifi connection is fine as it passes the test but this happens every time I click on the shop and try to update the system

Anyone know why?

It's probably not up yet seeing how the official launch is tomorrow.

Damn that's awesome. All the ones in Chicago are in areas that aren't very accessible by train and/or are pretty rough it looks like... probably not worth another $20. Oh well, thanks for the heads up!

I'm a UK owner as well and it is down for me as well. Don't worry, your DSi isn't borked.

I just bought a black DSi here in NYC. Can't really take a pic because I'm at work, but oh well.

Did you nab it from J&L? Saw they had 'em today, overpriced as usual.

I got an e-mail from Nintendo World about their midnight launch bit, I almost wanna switch my pre-order to there but the super-fan contingency has deterred me. I figure the mall Gamestop won't have a giant waiting line.

Just a heads up, if you're going to register your DSi with Club Nintendo wait until Sunday. You'll get 160 coins for registering it and taking a survey, but if you do it now you won't get the surveys required to get the coins.

Got a call today: Cambridge store opening at 8am and my Black DSi order is secure so I can go pick it up anytime hopefully.

Also checked out the deal a little more: seems this is an adaption of the 2 DS game for £25 deal starting tomorrow. ANY 2 games for a new DS Game at £4.99 or £25 in-store credit.

What offers are on lite trade ins? The details on the website seem to have gone (from what I remember it was something like DSi for £75 plus £75 store credit or DSi for £75 plus £50 cash).

Can you trade the (2 for £25) games in towards the DSi? I've got quite a few games I don't touch, could walk in with a 6 old games plus a lite and walk out with a DSi for free plus £75 credit.

Does that sound right?

I got it and so far it's pretty awesome, especially the Music thing, jumping with Mario to collect coins while listening to Rave On and Live & Learn never gets old. Too bad the Shop still hasn't opened up yet.

On joystq, there's a DS Lite vs DSi comparison and some walkthroughs of the Camera and Sound apps. I find the walkthrough more exciting than the author does.

I guess that's the reason then - as long as I don't have a faulty unit, I'm happy.

I've just noticed the US box has a mention of free games/downloads when you register and connect to DSIWare. I've just realised there is absolutely no mention of this on the UK box/in the manual. So does anyone know if Europe gets it too or did we get shafted again?

You can tell he didn't read the manual before hand. If he had he would have known that the sound recorder has two additional sound affects per option, so there are 12 effects in total rather than four.

As soon as this stuff is up and running you'll get 1000 free points when you enter the shop.

Shame the pound sterling is so weak at the moment otherwise I may have been tempted to import that. :(
