Then he shouldn't have used dollars to describe the price then.
I was the first one who wrote "$299" in this discussion. I thought it was easier to write $299 throughout the conversation/discussion instead of "29,980 Yen". I think that a quick (but maybe a bit rough?) currency conversion is to say that 100 Yen is $1, so 29,980 Yen becomes about $299. Gerg and i was talking about the japanese market as Stumpokapow said, so i was referring to the japanese market when i said $299. I didnt mean to mix up the japanese and the US market, i am sorry :\ But i will try to remember to write the prices in Yen as well the next time :)

EDIT: I see now that Gerg has already replied to this :)

Do we have numbers for this week or NPD numbers for September that I'm unaware of?

Sony showed PS3 Slim launch week sales of 600K worldwide, and it sold 1 million in the first three weeks of Slim's launch worldwide. That's a freaking huge drop after the launch week, but maybe Sony was rounding down that 1 million number by a lot.

boiled goose

good with gravy
even if 15k is a 50% improvement, the increase is so small it doesnt matter... 5k is within normal weekly fluctuations.

It is like saying the DS phat sold 600 instead of 300 units. It is pretty meaningless.

no trying to come down specifically on PS3, but the entire console market in japan is quite depressing.

i would guess that if PS3 sold 50% better than what it did, it definetly would have been doing a lot better than it is, wouldnt it? :lol

i mean that would be 10 million extra sales or whatever LTD is these days. 10 million might be pocket change for you, but certainly isnt for sony.

I've been curious about any possible legit LTDs of Klonoa Wii, Muramasa, Arc Rise, Rune Factory Frontier, etc in Japan, or better yet, worldwide?

Shame that Chartz is infamously inaccurate, seems like the only way we get totals, is either from the horses' mouths, or from that Famitsu top 500 or something each year for Japan right?

So there was a new magazine released this month, Dengeki Games. It's a monthly publication and it contains Top 500 sales for the month of August. Pretty impressive detail for such a cheap mag.

Anyway, I was actually surprised to find a GBA title in the top 500. Anyone fancy taking a stab at what it was (and how many units it sold)? Teehee. It is definitely interesting to see how many "forgotten" titles are still selling 3-4000 a month, though.

Really? Where is it available? My conbini has a shitty selection of game mags. Bic or Yodo maybe?

I'd bet on it being either Pokemon FRLG or Emerald, but it could have been Rhythm Tengoku too.

Yeah I would say probably Rhythm Tengoku. Didn't it get a reprint shortly after Gold was released?

I think that i know what you mean, but i think that i would say that there is a difference between 300 (the DS phat example) and 5,000. Both are 50% increase and both a small increases indeed, i agree, but there is still a small difference between 300 and 5,000, at least in my opinion. The 5,000 number requires 4,700 more people to be interested in buying something compared to the 300 number.

But what i wanted to say earlier is that if the PS3 baseline increases, even with just 5k, and if the lowest PS3 weekly hardware sales we will see about 1 year or so from now is 15k, it should show that more people are interested in buying a PS3 now compared to how the situations was before. It would be the same with the DS phat example. If that baseline increased with just 300 units, then it would show that more people are interested in buying it.

When Wii Sports Resort was released there wasnt a huge bump in the Wii hardware sales. It was then speculated if we would see a baseline increase with the Wii hardware. Instead of seeing a big bump in the Wii hardware sales in the first 1-2 weeks or so, the weekly baseline would increase instead. And this seemed to be the case, eventhough that the weekly Wii hardware sales didnt increase a lot, there was still an increase :) The Wii hardware sales has gone a bit down the last 2 weeks though, but i dont what the reason for this is.

You might say that it is rather meaningless with a small increase in the hardware sales (generally speaking about every gaming system, not just about the Wii hardware sales that i just mentioned) in the way that Microsoft, Nintendo and/or Sony wont see a huge increase in income because the hardware sales increase is too small, i agree (any increase income, even if the increased income is small, is probably highly welcomed at any company though, but i know what you mean), but if a console baseline increases, it should show that more people are interested in buying a console, even if the increase is relatively small, at least in my opinion. That is what i wanted to say :) Only time will show if the PS3 baseline increases though, but i think it shall be interesting to see what happends at least :)

EDIT: I added some text.

EDIT 2: I fixed some typos.

Word of the price drop has possibly got around/interest in WSR dropping slightly outside of those who don't own the console

Ye, that might be why the Wii hardware sales has dropped a bit in the last 2 weeks indeed. I am curious about how the Wii sales will be after the pricedrop.

Think you can post up the list? No rush, just get it up! :D Oh, and does each game have the LTD total as well?
I think it has LTD. I went looking on 2ch and some guy posted LTDs for Wii, PS3, PSP and 360 from a Dengeki Games magazine (couldn't find if he posted the rest because the threads have been purged).

However, he mentioned it as top 200, not 500. So, that's why I'm not 100%.

And there is a bit of overlap in the market for PS3 and for Wii. Pokémon may have made a very minor difference too. Strong price drop rumours probably had a hand as well though.

Tee hee. No, it's a third party title. More clues? Capcom. That's probably enough to get you on the right trail. Yeah, I got mine at Yodobashi.

The ghard section is text only, and I've linked to it before. Are you sure you're not thinking of 4chan?

If this Top 200/500 is going to be released monthly ... Another tracker to keep track of? Didn't Dengeki used to do Top 50 per week and then dropped numbers altogether for a while?

Considering it's a new magazine from them, it wouldn't be unexpected indeed if it were just a temporary thing to lure people.

I think that Halo 3: ODST is bolded just to show that it is the only new game that was released last week (at least among the games within the Top 10), if you were thinking about why only Halo 3: ODST is bolded?
