Where the hell do you live? For me-

Elementary School: Pre-K to 5th grade
Middle School: 6-8th
High School: 9-12th

I've never heard anyone in the US or on US TV use the term "primary school".

I've never heard "primary school" in the US either, but the way you listed it is strange to me as well.

Preschool:pre-K, Head Start, etc.
Elementary School: Kindergarten-6th grade
Middle School/Junior High:7th and 8th grade
High School: 9-12th grade.

That's how I've seen it where I live, at least.

It's different state to state and even district to district.
I worked at an elementary school in Maine where elementary was k-4, middle 5-8. I've also student taught at places where there were no middle schools, elementary was k-7, high school 8-12. And I have heard of schools in the US where k-3 was primary and 4-6 was elementary. Once (or if) the US get their core curriculum standards up and running throughout the country, maybe they will work on having some more consistency in how to organize schools.

I live in Washington. They're not common at all; I've seen maybe two or three. I just know they do exist because I went to one from grades 1-3, and then I transferred to an elementary school in another district which went K-6 (later K-5).

Fuck. Still seems overcomlicated to what we have over here:

Age 4-11: Primary school
Age 11-16: Secondary school
Age 16-18: Sixth Form/College
Age 18+: University

I was kind of hoping Uber would post his thread too so we could get a Green vs Purple thing going, but alas.

I'll lock OT4 and reopen this thread when I wake up in the morning.
