I just finished the series and I'm watching it again now after having seen Fire Walk With me....Because I need that quirkiness back, Fire Walk with me was too god damn dark.

I need more slow mo Sherrif Truman punches and Hawk doing all the real police work.

But yeah that music man.....That music is so damn good.

I never really started season 2. How much of this show's weirdness is it just being weird vs how much of it is actually leading to something.

I can tolerate being goofy and quirky but I don't want to invest 22 episodes of time into something that goes nowhere.

And yet everyone still seems to know each other, there's only one department store and the largest sources of income for the town are a lumber mill and a hotel?

... Nice thinking executives.
Don't forget the gas farm and the great northern hotel. Tourism is booming

It goes "somewhere," but it's a cancelled TV show, so it obviously isn't going to have a definite ending after those 22 episodes (plus, the new show is only going to be weirder and you shouldn't expect it to hand you all the answers).

I initially stopped after the killer reveal/capture and skipped to the finale because of the famous "dip". Now I'm up to 18 with my wife and though theres some definite crap with Ben and James, I am really enjoying these episodes. In a way, there's a ton of iconic and wacky stuff happening that feels like pure Twin Peaks. Since I hadn't watched these episodes, I really feel I missed a layer of goofiness to the show that is pretty good in these episodes. Windom Earle is great so far as well.

Weird that Twin Peaks has a relatively high population for a "small" town.

Show makes it seem like they should have a population at least a quarter of that, especially considering they only had like 4 cops?

I always thought the high school was gigantic for a small town

Bobby Briggs is best character

Fire walk with me was my go to porn back in the day. I had easy access to it and could use the excuse of being a Twin Peaks fan (this was pretty much pre internet in my side of town). Also, Laura Palmer just turns me on!

hmmm, that's pretty cool and weird considering I was up at like 6 am this morning, and just randomly decided to buy the blu ray set with Fire Walk With me and something else I've never seen. Should be here next week.

The network made the creators of the show change it. They were afraid viewers wouldn't be able to relate to such a small town so the population got bumped up. Was originally 5,120.

In my case, it's the opposite. My town has a population of less than 700.

If anyone is interested, here is a video I made of my trip to the Twin Peaks filming locations. I've got footage from 1989 compared with how it looks now.

Whoa....I recognize your girls voice, which lead me to recognize your voice

I just listened to your podcast for the last two weeks straight at work while I binged twin peaks, I listened to every episode for season 1 and 2, as well as for Fire Walk With me, will be checking out the book podcasts after I finish them. Hope you guys are coming back for the new season!!!

The on going jokes about how Hawk does all the heavy lifting and real police work always have me dying on there.

Still need to finish season 2 myself (about seven more episodes to go). Haven't found myself less interested in the later episodes, minus pretty much everything concerning James and Donna.

Only 4 episodes for me to go on Netflix. Forum wasn't kidding about the last 10 or so shit episodes.

It's the stupid fucking James subplot that makes the second half of season 2 a bit of a drag. I still think everything else is gold though. Yes, even Super Nadine.

Yeah but each episode has its own quirks that I found funny in their own right. The theory is, the episodes don't return to form until coop gets his badge and suit back.

Or until Billy Zane leaves with his tucked in sweaters (who the hell does that?)

I'd say having pretty much every guy in town enamored with that Lana girl in season two also bugged me. It came across as so awkward and unnatural that I was expecting it to be related to another supernatural twist, but I've seen no indication of anything other than bad writing in that regard.

Im not normally into shipping but screw Lara Flynn Boyle for ruining the Audrey and Dale relationship.
She saved Cooper's character. They're attractive people who look nice together, but there's nothing good to be gained from making the brilliant FBI agent bang a ditzy high schooler. There's nowhere that subplot could go besides turning Audrey into a serial damsel in distress.
Audrey fell apart as a character when they hastily tried to turn her into an adult and Cooper's reputation took a big enough hit when the case solved itself and he entered the Flannel Period.

Nice! Thanks for listening to our podcast. What a small world. :)

We're definitely coming back for season 3. I can't wait.

I feel the same. I love every episode. There's just so much charm in this show.

What the fuck was the point of the James character full stop?

All his subplots and bullshit amount to nothing.
It almost feels like he was in another show to everyone else and they just spliced his scenes in.

Yeah, I agree. Most of Season 2 is still pretty great (albeit very different from Season 1/early Season 2), but the whole subplot with James was just complete garbage and dragged every episode it was in down.

Even though it's mostly a supernatural crime story, people often forget Twin Peaks is patterned after a soap opera as well. Soap operas often have go-nowhere side characters whose stories don't really tie into the main narratives. Not that that should really make James' adventures any better or more entertaining though.

Large sections of Season 2 are stories that really have nothing to do with the central stories. Ben Horne's Civil War re-enactment and Josie Packard's Hong Kong intrigue are arguably just as useless as James' wife-diddling, but appear more relevant because they tangentially involve established characters.

I really need to finish up the first series before the new one hits. I think I hit the "red zone" there in S2 and started to lose interest.

Yeah all of that stuff just felt like filler fluff. It wouldn't of been so bad if it had been better written.

It kind of felt like they didn't know what they wanted the show to be.
The swings between supernatural mystery and soap opera are so disjointed.
But not even in a good Lynchian surrealist way most of the time.

That's exactly what happened. They were forced to reveal their killer early by the network and had no stories ready to go.

3 months will go by in no time, considering how long we've already had to wait so far for the revival

now waiting 8 more months for Stranger Things is really going to suck...

Nah I'm legit feeling the crawl rn lol, esp due to getting to see them film a scene at the Palmer house when they were in WA state, seeing that shit in person with those characters all those years later was emotional. Only exterior stuff but still. I feel like this must be the sort of continuity constipation Lynch felt when he had to take a year plus off from filming Eraserhead due to lack of funds and when he resumed he finally got to see the character walking through the door on the other side xD

I don't think any of the sidestories would have been a problem if they weren't also bad (yes, even super-strength Hulk Nadine in high school sucked).

If they had somehow tied those stories into the main narrative maybe that might have worked. But then again Shelly and Bobby taking care of mentally disabled Leo was insufferable, even though they found a way to connect it to the Windom Earle plotline.

Say what?! Vegetable Leo is the best Leo, especially when he's being abused by those two assholes. It's Windom Earle - and his gimmicky props - that made this subplot hard to endure.

They don't even resolve the Leo thing.
They just leave him in one of Windom Earle's traps.

And speaking of Earle. Holy fuck was that guy chewing the scenery.

At first I felt bad for Leo, but then I started to rewatch the series again yesterday and ya know what, Leo is a real piece of shit lol.

I'm expecting Season 3 to address most of Season 2's weird subplots/loose ends, but I hope the more idiotic mysteries will be resolved in a cheeky manner.

Between this & Riverdale, it's been a fun time watching dumb murder mystery-themed soap operas.

I'm in Australia and would love to check out that area one day. Where in the US exactly are these and are they spread apart or in the same general area?

Most of the filming locations are around North Bend, Washington, which is about half an hour from Seattle. I haven't done as thorough film site digging as others but I believe most of the exterior locations are concentrated around the main town with some others a bit further out in state parks (Olallie being one of those).

Many of the iconic locations like the RR Diner (Twedes Cafe) and The Great Northern (Salish Lodge) with the adjacent Snoqualmie Falls are no more than 5-10 mins driving distance from each other. Most of it really is clustered in and around North Bend. And to think they almost made it is a desert town before swinging through on their way back from location scouting...

Eh, it was just fucking spiders. Fukken nothing happens if that falls. He's aight. But, also, who cares lol.

Man, rewatching the show, it made me realize just how much Deadly Premonition tried to bring twin peaks to video games.

Finally forced myself to watch Fire Walk with Me today. I've tried a couple times, but hated the first 30ish minutes and always stopped. Bleh. It has some nice precursor information about Laura and some tie-ins to the show, but overall the movie felt really bad and stilted.

I started playing Deadly Premonition yesterday and will play more today. I tried around release and instantly knew I needed to finish Twin Peaks first and return to truly appreciate it. I'm so glad I did. I spent about 2 hours last night just exploring the hotel and police station, taking pictures of the Twin Peaks easter eggs hidden around there.

I'll share a couple of the more overt ones, but I took almost 40 images and that was just with two locations. I am stoked to see what more this game has to offer - and now I'll also be able to spot FwwM references.
