It's a Nintendo console so there is no official RRP right? So stores are free to set whatever they like as the price, and hopefully competition will bring it down a little.

I'd say I'd wait for the price drop 6 months in like 3ds but unfortunately our currency may well be so fucked by that point that any price drop elsewhere is completely lost for us.

Well remember the USD price does not include tax/VAT. UK price would include VAT.

I think this is the 7th or so time I am surprised and reminded that in the EU each store, even across countries, sets its own price despite the same currency.

At 6am. Their email said 7am BST we are GMT now which is 6am. This was confirmed by an Amazon rep on live chat.
They updated their site to remove the BST, so we can't be sure it's 6am anymore.

Correct. US gets it for $300 before tax. UK for $285 before tax.
"Major European countries" usually means Germany, UK, France, Italy and Spain.
