I can only surmise they attracted him by giving him a lot of latitude to be Joss, and not necessarily have to write about Batgirl being apart of the Justice League in some big overarching storyline. And just tell a story about Batgirl's life he wants to tell.

I can't see it going any other way. They can't have attracted them unless the approach differed from Marvel's.
