There is both a windows (XP) and OS X (Rosetta required for Intel machines) version. Vista/7 are not fully supported but he claims you can beat the game in both environments.

I finished watching a let's play of this, It was surprisingly.... short?

seriously it did't even last 30 minutes.

I loved it though,

quitting school and starting a quest searching for the "true pudding"

was the best ending i have ever seen in a while.

... was that considered a good or a bad ending though? I honestly couldn't tell, lol.

Yeah there's plenty of "girl" visual novels as well. I guess they are called "Otome". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otome_game Someone that actually knows something about this subject might be able to elaborate.
