I think the Lite will stick around longer than the Phat did.

But the thing is, I can't remember how long the Phat was around after the Lite.
So it is a replacement like the Lite was?

It'll be complementary, but that means that if I want to upgrade from DS Reg, I have to lose features. :(

3.25" screens
No GBA slot
3.0 Megapixel camera
Improved Audio playback capabilities
Bonus 1000 Nintendo Points for buying a DSi and connecting by Mar-09
DSWare games (Free, 200, 500, 800)
McDonald download kiosks
No additional charge Internet Browser for download
SD card slot for moving pictures (e.g. to the Wii)
FF:CChron DS/Wii game in Jan-09

Wii Stuff:
Download VC/WiiWare directly to SD cards but it sounds like you still have to "clean the fridge" to move it to the Wii to actually play it :(
Bonus 500 points for you and someone you get to log on to the internet with their Wii for the 1st time
AC Wii - 11/20, 7800 yen w/ Wii Speak
GameCube Classics? - Pikmin
So do we know if it's a replacement or not? I'm confused now :lol .

As for the WiiStorage thing, if it's an automatic 1 click process that leaves your channel on the dashboard it could be OK - we'll see. I didn't think Nintendo would introduce a Wii HDD anyways.

It's an evolution: the only loss is the GBA slot, there are lots of small improvements -- thinner, sound slider replaced by buttons, bigger screens, better sound -- and a few more major ones -- SD slot and a pair of cams, but everything is incremental, and the machine looks very much like a DSLite in every aspect (buttons are exactly the same and in the same position for example, save for the power one which moves to the bottom left of the screen because the SD slot takes its place)

Iwata stated that the DSLite had reached a plateau of 1/household, and that's good but they're shooting for 1 ds/person

Sting game sales comparison via Garaph:
Code:
PLT	title 1st wk	LTD
GBA	Riviera to the promised land 9,540	16,467
GBA	Yggdra Union 17,728	36,172

PSP	Yggdra Union 21,989	21,989 (only first week sales available)

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Nintendo doesn't want you to replace your Lite, they want you to buy it without selling the old. ;)

That said, it's clear that they want to sell the Lite as long as possible. It's the scenario I predicted in the past, when I thought they could cut the GBA-slot for making the next redesign even smaller.

Well, they to have to supply Europe (and NA?) until Spring next year, so the question is if they will still supply Japan with some of them...

I'm also not sure myself if DSi is replacing DSL or not :/

If Sengoku Musou is Samurai Warrior:

It is.

Shin Sangoku Musou = Dynasty Warriors (KOEI)
Sengoku Musou = Samurai Warriors (KOEI)
Warriors Orochi = Shin Sangoku Musou + Sengoku Musou (KOEI)
Gundam Musou = Dynasty Warriors: Gundam (KOEI/Namco Bandai)

Sengoku Basara = Devil Kings (Capcom)

Also, remember that Shin Sengoku Musou X = Dynasty Warriors X+1. Why? The first Dynasty Warriors game (called Sangoku Musou), not to be confused with Samurai Warriors, is a fighter game that has nothing to do with the rest of the series. The Japanese consider the series starting with what we call number 2.

Also each game has an Empires expansion and an Xtreme Legends expansion.

In summary, KOEI is a joke.

JoshuaJSlone said:
Here's the lot of Samurai Warriors releases in Japan. No (non-"The Best") PS2 game has done worse than 200K. No non-PS2 game has done better than 110K.

Sengoku Musou Katana has nothing to do with Sengoku Musou except the name and the general time period. Katana is an on-rails slasher like Dragon Quest Swords, except monumentally shitty.

This is the first game.

The anime is still relatively new (compared to other shounen cash-ins), and from what I can tell it's moderately popular. The manga's been dominating Gangan for a long time, but FMA is the real king there.

Thanks for the insight, but Gangan, FMA? Sorry, not into Manga/Anime all that much.

Gangan is this I suppose: Gangan Comics is a manga imprint of Square Enix (originally Enix). It publishes manga in several magazines aimed at different reader demographic groups in the Japanese market. Its most popular series is Fullmetal Alchemist. (wiki)

FMA is the mentioned Fullmetal Alchemist?

Yeah, Fullmetal Alchemist is huge. There are several games, and it's getting a brand-new anime sometime in the future.

Both FMA and SE run in Shounen Gangan, which is the main manga magazine in the Gangan line.

Nah, maybe most of the weeks, but I really doubt that Xbox 360 will beat Playstation 3 for like 8-9 weeks in a row. Especially when there still is some shortages and when Microsoft needs to put all their new manufactored consoles in Europe and USA for x-mas. Still incredible impressive though and completely unthinkable just a few months ago.

I didn't say it would beat the PS3 for the next five or six weeks. I said it would sustain. The PS3 might get a boost from LBP or something in that time and rise above the 10k mark, but I think the 360 is going to hang in the 8-10k zone until TLR comes out.

So, what's the attitude with the 360 nowadays over there in Japan?

I mean, there's gotta be some positive word of mouth going around to keep these numbers up.

Same as the Playstation 3 with the people I talk to. ie, it's seen as a hardcore otaku system that only ubergeeks and rich kids own.

I've got a general Dragon Ball group, but here it is sorted by platform so one can more easily pick out particular systems. Without doing an extensive launch-to-lifetime comparison the highest among GBA/DS/PSP I see had a 65K opening week, so the current one seems to be off to a good start.
