1. Sonic 2
2. 3&K
3. Generations
4. Racing Transformed
5. Rush
6. Unleashed (for the Day stages, obviously)
7. CD
8. Rush Adventure
9. Colors
10. Sonic Advance

Something like that. I should really play through all of Advance 2 at some point.

And no, I don't really care for Sonic 1 that much. It would probably be #11.

My favorites:

Sonic The Hedgehog- MD/Genesis (The perfect game IMHO)

Sonic CD - Mega CD (Japanese soundtrack, please)
Sonic 3 & Knuckles (This one is probably the most interesting, but some levels are way too long)
Sonic 2 - MD/Genesis (I like it a lot but for some reason I was never a big fan of it, still, one of the best games ever)

Sonic The Hedgehog - MS/GG (Pretty good version for the 8 bit systems)
Sonic 2 - MS/GG
Sonic Generations

And I'm not a fan of Sonic Chaos, the game looks amazing but it's easy as hell.

Sonic Adventure and Adventure 2 are good games, but they're not of my favorites.
Unleashed werewolf sections are boring.
Sonic Colors looks good, haven't played much of it. Same for Sonic and the Secret Rings.
Sonic Heroes got stale fast.
Sonic 3d Blast and Sonic R are weird, their music is ace, though.
Sonic Spinball sucks.
SegaSonic The Hedgehog (Arcade) and Sonic Labyrinth, the fathers of Sonic 3D Blast... Isometric Sonic is not good Sonic.

PS: Don't forget CHAOTIX. Door To Summer y'all.

1. Sonic 3

Best zones, best special stages. Knuckles is love. Super Sonic & Doomsday Zone. I thought S&K was a little hard though.

2. Sonic Battle

That's right, SB is one of the most satisfying fighting games I've encountered and it has a surprisingly not-shit story mode.
Emerl ;_;

3. Sonic 2

The special stages still haunt my dreams. Game is great though, and towards the end it just keeps going: on the first playthrough I expected it to end at the boss of Metropolis, then the game's like BAM you're on a plane oh shit now you're on an air fortress wait now you're in space?

4. Sonic Advance 3

Fast as heck, the team mechanics are a nice touch (you get to team up with Eggman!). The last zone is still one of the coolest last zones in a Sonic game. Fuck the hidden Chaos though.

5. Sonic 1

Yup it's Sonic.

6. Sonic Advance 1

Probably the non-oldschool Sonic game that's the most loyal to the franchise's roots. Basically Sonic 1-3 on a handheld, though not as amazing.

7. Sonic Rush

Took the Special Stages of Sonic 2 and made them bearable. Blaze was cool though I wasn't fond of playing essentially the same game twice to get to the Extra Zone. Music is amazing. Game is kinda short.

8. Sonic Advance 2

Apparently this game is too fast for some people. I liked it, even though I blazed through every stage (even the bosses are a race, think about how that works in a 2D Sonic game...)

9. Sonic Generations

Don't have much to say about this one, other than it's a 3d Sonic game I genuinely enjoyed.

10. Sonic Riders

In it's defense it's not a bad racing game really; the mechanics are nice and it can get pretty challenging without going into bullshit territory. Story was shit but who cares. The intro was amazing.

---

Next in line I guess would be Spinball, CD, Triple Trouble and Chaos and maybe the two Adventures.

Worst is Sonic Labyrinth, no contest.

Funniest is Sonic R or Sonic the Fighters, depends on the day.

Also if Transformed counts then that's automatically taking my # 1 spot.

There are 10 good Sonic games?

Let me try to list all that I deem really good, concentrating purely on platformers (not All-Stars Racing here for instance):
Sonic (MD)
Sonic 2 (MD)
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Sonic CD
Sonic Adventure
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Heroes
Sonic Unleashed 360
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Sonic Colours Wii
Sonic Generations 360
Sonic Lost World Wii U
Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure
Sonic Advance
Sonic Advance 2
Sonic Advance 3
Sonic Rush
Sonic Rush Adventure
Sonic Colours DS
Sonic Generations 3DS
Sonic 4 Episode 2

So, more than 20. Also, on the other end of the spectrum, there are only few truly horrible Sonic platformers:
Sonic Boom U
Sonic 2006
Sonic Black Knight
Shadow the Hedgehog
Sonic 2 Game Gear
Sonic 3D Blast

Okay lemme see

1. Sonic 3K

Just an amazing platformer all round, with great level design, alternate paths, fun special stages and even a pretty entertaining storyline. I definitely consider this game to be up with Nintendo's best on the SNES and it's probably my favourite platformer of all time. Sonic Team have yet to make a decent effort to capitalise on what made it good.

2. Sonic Generations

Another really good game. While its endgame is very weak, the rest of the game more than makes up for it. It's just a fun ride throughout and a great lookback at the franchise's history as well.

3. Sonic Colours (both versions)

It certainly earned its title of "first 3D Sonic that's actually fairly good". It's a very charming game that has a really good aesthetic, some fairly good new ideas, and a good "back to basics" feel in regards to storyline and gameplay mechanics. This game being good was a really nice surprise after Sega fucked up Sonic 4 so that might be why I hold it in such high regard.

4. Sonic Advance

The last Sonic game to actually play like the traditional ones. It was cool how it took Sonic 3K's alternate characters concept further with the addition of Amy. Just a fun game in general and a testament to the fact that Dimps can make good Sonic games.

5. Sonic Rush

The kind of game that the 3DS still needs. A fun new stylised take on the franchise that really uses the hardware it's on. While its boost mechanic gets old faster than the traditional gameplay style, it was really fun the first time. Also the bosses are really cool to look at.

6. Sonic Rush Adventure

Lacks the same impact as Rush since we've seen boosting before, but adds some vehicle sections that are actually very fun at times, especially the hovercraft. I really enjoyed the exploration this game had to offer with its hidden islands. Bosses are some of the most creative ones in the series as well and it has Robot Pirate Eggman as the villain.

7. Sonic CD

I really like the sci-fi feeling this game's art style has, which is really unique to it, and the intro cinematic contains the best design Sonic's ever had. It's a more exploration-focused game than the others, and the time travel mechanic is actually very interesting. Level design can feel messy, however.

8. Sonic Adventure

Probably the most dated Sonic game that I still enjoy, fishing aside. I still find the Sonic stages to be fun and the treasure hunting is alright here due to the somewhat smaller stages than its sequel. I also liked the shooting gallery stages. Gamma's storyline is also the closest thing this franchise has had to a touching story.

9. Sonic 1

Game's a mixed bag. I enjoy having it on my phone and I really like the majority of it. Not so hot on the slower levels where you have to slowly push blocks and the like, but it was the first game so I can't fault it for things improved on in the sequels.

10. Sonic Heroes

A game I still enjoy for all its flaws. It definitely gets worse as it goes on and enemies get more and more health, but closer to the start, the team based mechanics work and it's a really good game visually. Also the proud owner of a 3D Super Sonic fight that isn't complete ass and uses the rest of the game's mechanics instead of throwing them away and putting you in some barely controllable flying segment.

Sonic 2
One of the best platformers ever made. It takes what made Sonic 1 good and adds to it to make an even better game. The inclusion of spin dash helps keep the game moving fast even when momentum is lost and the level design is all around better and far more memorable. Places from the Chemical Plant to Casino Night and the infamous 3 act Metropolis are all structurally unique and boosted by amazing music. The inclusion of Super Sonic for the first time also adds a replay value to the game in an effort to get every Chaos Emerald and replay the game even faster. Overall, Sonic 2 manages to completely top its predecessor, making it one of the best games of all time.

Sonic 3 &Knuckles
One again evolving off of the original Sonic experience, Sonic 3 & Knuckles to be a fun game. Although technically split into 2 games, the experience is bettered by playing them back to back. The level design at times, is possibly the franchise's best. The dynamic movement from stage to stage adds a level of immersion past Sonic games. The boss design is particularly fascinating, and the music is on par with the original games. All in all, Sonic 3 & Knuckles is a great closure to the original Sonic trilogy.
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2 is an experience that defines Sonic for many. A sequel to Sonic Adventure, Adventure 2 takes its predecessor's gameplay to a whole new level. Adding levels designed specifically for Speed, Exploration, and Shooting characters, the game creates one of the most engaging narratives in Sonic despite its cliches and strangeness. Being the introduction to franchise favorite characters such as Rogue and Shadow, the game boasts many of the most memorable boss encounters and set pieces in the franchise history: from the G.U.N. truck chase to the final showdown between Sonic and Shadow. Overall, this game is a fantastic adaption of Sonic unlike any other.

Sonic 1
The one and only original game, Sonic 1 is. Introducing the original Sonic physics, you play through various platform heavy stages, trying your best to maintain momentum and speed to get as fast as possible to the goal. Although some stages are designed in ways that deliberately break one's momentum, the overall layout of the stages is a fun challenge, and the amazing soundtrack defines each one in its own way. The first conflict against Dr. Robotnik is easily one of the best in the series.

Sonic Rush
Rush is a fast, modern, 2D Sonic designed for the DS. Creating elements that would later be used in Unleashed, Rush pushes the Sonic experience by emphasizing speed through boosts in fun obstacle course stages. The bosses are quite a challenge, yet they often prove to be some of the most interesting in the franchise. The occasional enemy combat rooms show up but the pacing is never entirely put off. The addition of Blaze the Cat offers an extension of gameplay by giving you twice as much to do. Aside from the difficulty spikes at times, Rush is a fantastic experience of modern sonic adapted to the classic Sonic design.

Sonic Generations
Sonic Generations is a reunion of classic and modern Sonic in the perfect way. Generations adapts the physics of the original Genesis Sonic and takes the physics of the modern Unleashed Sonic to create two separate but fun level styles to play through the game. Although there is questionable level choice(many levels follow the "Green Hill" way of being the first area or green area in their game), the game delivers on reinventing these familiar Sonic stages for both gameplay styles, adding in an amazing soundtrack as well. However, the lack of originality does hurt the game as one would like to see more from this combination of gameplay than simply retread the same past stages.

Sonic Colors
A focused game taking the best elements of the Unleashed game and evolving from that. Multiple zones available that also bring the gameplay element of Wisps, creatures that act as power-ups for Sonic. The Wisps give an element of exploration unique to Modern Sonic games and add replay value in one's efforts to collect anything missed the first time around if a Wisp was unusable at a time. Lack of strong bosses and over saturation in missions and acts push the game's quality down.

Sonic Heroes
A callback, more so than the adventure games, to the original Sonic. The addition of 3 characters being controlled by you in one stage gives a diverse movement across levels and paths. However camera issues and confusing areas hold back this game's full potential. Still, this is a severely underrated Sonic game.

Sonic Unleashed
Unleashed has great day stages with wonderful music and unique speed emphasized design. This is marred however by slow, and combat focused Werehog stages which break up the pacing for too often regardless of their quality which can vary.

Sonic CD
Sonic CD is a fast paced evolution of the classic Sonic formula. Adding in time travel, the game allows you to experience multiple pathways based on choices made while exploring levels. The experience however, can be brought down by unfair bosses and frustrating level design.

Sonic Adventure
The first entrance into the world of 3D is a strange one in Sonic Adventure. Not quite sure exactly what it is, Sonic Adventure takes the classic Sonic gameplay design and tweaks it for its added dimension. The addition of a homing attack is fun, but poor control and camera issues keep the game from being great. The poor game design outside of stages as well mark down the experience.

1. Sonic Generations
2. Sonic Unleashed
3. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
4. Sonic CD

Done.

Not a fan of the 2D games. CD is the only 2D sonic I've ever enjoyed throughout hmv

sure, from what i played.

Sonic 2 the only classic i beat, tried S3 but didnt liked it.

Sonic Advance, simple game but was a glorious trip to the land of nostalgia.

Sonic Adventure 2,battle while it has big flaws still one game of my childhood, i thought the story was crazy but much, much better executed than other Sonic games.

Sonic Advance 3 one of the best Sonic games, convined Advance 2 speed with Advance 1 ,level design, fun team partner, has a great ending.

Sonic Rush, great game and first for DS, felt like old school Sonic but with a modern twwist.

Sonic Colors, not that special imo but art direction and soundtrack are big stand outs.

Sonic Generations, One of the best remakes on recent memory.

1. Sonic 2 - Mega Drive - the ultimate Sonic game.
2. Sonic R - Saturn
3. Sonic 2 -Master System
4. Sonic 1 -Mega Drive
5. Sonic 1 -Master System
6. Sonic Riders Zero Gravity - Wii
7. Sonic and the Secret Rings - Wii
8. Sonic Generations - PC
9. Sonic & Sega All Star Racing - 360
10. Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure - NGPC

Sonic 1 - the original and still the best.
Sonic 2 - some improvements, but the level design was not quite as good, and character models were less to my liking. Good amount of content.
Sonic & Knuckles - more of the same, but still good. But I was getting a bit bored of the same stuff at this point, and didn't play this game nearly as much.
Sonic 3 - only played this years later, and it seemed very similar to Sonic & Knuckles.
3D Sonic games are a mess. Sonic Adventure 2 was okay in places, but even the Sonic segments weren't exactly amazing.

sonic cd doesn't make the list for being kind of a hard to understand platformer. i really want to love it but it's too wonky. didn't list sonic adventure games because they're bad games. sonic generations would be higher, but the pacing sucks and not all of its 18 levels are good ones.

tempted to put secret rings in at #10 honestly. i can at least remember what i liked about that game, where sonic advance is just kind of generally there.

If spin-off games count then I guess throw Sonic Racing Transformed around number 7. Wish that game was still getting supported with DLC. I'm nostalgic for the first two Adventure games but I'm not going to start pretending they haven't aged like shit, and while Unleashed has a lot of high points they're completely eclipsed by all the bizarre game design decisions.

Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic Colours, Sonic Generations, Sonic Rush

Fuck the rest. Loved Adventure 2 as a pre-teen, but even back then, we all knew that only the Sonic/Shadow stages were good and they barely are like 25% of the game (and a little janky too). I also kinda liked Sonic and the Secret Rings, but you need to play for a few hours to literally unlock responsive controls, which makes it hard to recommend. Even after that, there were some missions that didn't work too well with the control scheme, although the more racing-game type of gameplay was an okay try. Sonic 1 was the first game I've ever played, but outside of nostalgia, it really isn't that special as a platformer. I had the first GBA one but thought it was kinda unremarkable too.

I've been told I have a bad taste in video games more than once

1) Sonic Heroes - First Sonic game I ever played. I love it. Even for its flaws
2) Sonic Adventure 2
3) Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed - I've put too many hours into this. It completely destroys Mario Kart
4) Sonic 2 - The only 2D Sonic game I've ever really liked
5) Sonic Adventure
6) Shadow The Hedgehog - This counts, right? I actually found it fun, and the atmosphere was kinda cool
7) Sonic R - Fun little game. Nothing wrong with it, imo

Unfortunately, I can't think of anymore Sonic games I've really enjoyed all that much. I'm not a big fan of 2D platformers at all.

Sonic has always been terrible.
list should be "Top 10 least bad Sonic games"

nice bait, bro

S3&K and 2 are pretty close and its hard to choose between them, but I give 3&K the edge for the Knuckles run through opening new sections in the levels along with some different bosses. I prefer the originals in general for the level design that isn't just about going fast all the time and does at least include some platforming and also has that wonderful verticality to it with multiple paths through the level with the aim usually to find a way to use your momentum to reach the higher path.

1. Sonic 3 & Knuckles
2. Sonic 2
3. Sonic 1
4. Sonic Generations
5. Sonic Advance 3
6. Sonic Advance 1
7. Sonic CD
8. Sonic Adventure 2
9. Sonic Chaos
10. Sonic Spinball (yes I actually like it)

If we were to separate 3 and Knuckles then Sonic 2 would move to number 1 with S&K second and Sonic 3 third. Obviously I'm more of 2D Sonic fan, though the most notable 2D absence on the list that I have played are Sonic Rush and Advance 2. I just didn't like them, played too much like the "gotta go fast" stereotype rather then what I like about the games. I also don't like most of the 8bit Sonics, Sonic Chaos was the only good one, wasn't impressed with Master System Sonic 1 or 2.

I haven't played most of the 3D Sonics since Heroes soured me on the whole thing. If we're allowed any game with Sonic in the title then Sonic Transformed moves into 3rd place.

I'm not sure I can name 10 good Sonic games, but I'll try.

Colors and Generations aren't good games? or any of the GBA/DS games?

Colors and Generations aren't good games? or any of the GBA/DS games?

Colours/Generations were 25% good and 75% bad, like everything not side view was bad, and the side view level design was crappy, in Colours especially.

DS (Rush?) games sucked imo, the GBA games from what I remeber of them changed the gameplay too much, especially for certain characters.

Top ten, huh?

Chronological, because I feel like it:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2, because it's a hell of a game. Even people who are bitter about recent Sonic games admit this is a good one. A massive improvement over Sonic 1, it could be the best Sonic game ever made.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles, which I count as one game. This one isn't quite the leap that Sonic 2 was over Sonic 1, but it's the biggest, most rich 2D Sonic game. You could spend a solid month digging through this game before you truly explored every level completely.

Sonic Adventure, because even though it's an ancient, janky dinosaur, I still feel the game's charm in there somewhere. Sonic's levels are still the best balance between speed and platforming a 3D Sonic game's ever had, as long as you don't fall through the floor.

Sonic Adventure 2 is actually primarily getting listed because I need ten games. I like Sonic Adventure 2, but, really, only a third of it. The Sonic and Shadow stages are the highlight, but changes made to the Emerald Hunting and Shooting play styles really drag the rest of the game down like lead weights.

Sonic Advance is a pretty decent emulation of the Sega Genesis games, to the point where it's probably more fair to call this the "real" Sonic 4.

Sonic Advance 2, because this is the start of when Dimps started experimenting with Sonic and speed. As a game, it's easy to frustrate, but if you can hack it, it's extremely fun to master for the sheer volume of mobility options you get.

Sonic Rush, because it cauterized the idea of Sonic the Hedgehog as a racing game. Not all of its levels are fun, but it earns extra brownie points for being a pioneer that lead us to...

Sonic Rush Adventure is a major step in the right direction as far as level design goes. Less visually impressive, but definitely more fun to play. Some people complain about the sailing minigame stuff, I liked most of it.

Sonic Unleashed, because it brings the Sonic Rush gameplay in to 3D and elevates the concept of "Sonic as a racing game" considerably as a result. The Werehog and Medal collection stuff can be tedious, but honestly, I didn't really mind it, in retrospect.

Sonic Generations, because even though it feels a bit like having training wheels on after Unleashed, it's still a dang good game, and is at the very least a lot more even with its overall quality.

I actually haven't played 10 Sonic games but here are the ones I have played.

1. Sonic 2
2. Sonic 3
3. Sonic 1
4. Sonic and Knuckles
5. Sonic Generations
6. SA2
7. Sonic 3D Blast Genesis version
8. Sonic Spinball

Sure I can.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVbdSUGTD-A

The whole game is a blast to play, especially levels like that which feature tons of jumping sections.

What I see is a video that demonstrates that, in order to achieve a Good Future rating in this level, you have to go against everything the game has ever taught you and intentionally get yourself in to a scenario that should instantly kill you from being crushed to death. (Instead, it transports you to the Robot Generator you need to destroy)

Essentially, the game is providing you with a loaded pistol and rewards you for shooting yourself in the head, but only in this one specific level, and impromptu of nothing.

I don't know that you can use that as an example of this being a good level.

My top 5 is easier to list, but I'll aim for top 10.

1. Sonic 3&K
2. Sonic 1
3. Sonic Generations
4. Sonic 2/CD
5. Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed (not sure if this even counts
6. Sonic Colors
7. Sonic Advanced 3 (I know most preferred the first two, but idk, I liked how unconventional this platformer was)
8. Sonic Unleashed/Sonic Rush
9. Sonic Adventure 1-2/Lost World
10. Sonic Heroes (by no means a great game, but I loved the concept, could've been something special with more polish and level design: in other words most 3D Sonic games)

Idk if ties are allowed but I can't really decide which is better between some of those titles so they rank around the same.

No series goes through as many changes as this series. Easy to see why opinions are all over the place.

I still believe that if I was given the creative director spot for a sonic game I could create the perfect 3D sonic game with exactly what everyone has always wanted from a 3d sonic game. I have the ultimate idea and it would be so easy to implement.

But alas, the idea of sonic has changed since the 2D times but I still believe my game idea would be perfect.. Perfect I tell you. It's just unfortunate I don't know how to build games because some some of the ideas I've had would make for some amazing gaming.

The whole game is a blast to play, especially levels like that which feature tons of jumping sections.

See, to me this shows everything I hate about WW - it feels like a poorly laid out mess of platforms set up in such a way that really doesn't feel intuitive unless you know the level like the back of your hand (which you obviously do).

To each his own, but this is exactly what I don't want in a Sonic game.

1. Sonic 2
2. Sonic 1
3. Sonic 3 & Knuckles
4. Sonic Generations
5. Sonic CD
6. Sonic Colors
7. Sonic Adventure
8. Sonic Unleashed
9. Sonic Adventure 2
10. Sonic Advance

I think Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the absolute height of Sonic platforming. Sonic 3 was good and mechanically sound, but lacked the smart level design of the first two games.

3D Sonic needs to strive for the gameplay that Colors and the 3D Generations levels had to offer.

Poor Sonic Unleashed doesn't seem to be getting the recognition it deserves

I love Unleashed. Arguably, it has the one of the best "day stages" of the entire Hedgehog Engine trilogy. Dragon's Road, Skycrapper Scamper, Jungle Joyride and above all, Eggmanland, are incredible well desing speed action stages.

It has superior version of Rooftop Run too and much better final bosses than Generations, even though, Generations is better overall

1. Sonic 3 & Knuckles (no contest really, the barrel is the only smudge on it)
2. Sonic 2 (my first Sonic game actually, and still one of the best)
3. Sonic Generations PS3/360/PC (glaring omissions in the levels chosen, but a blast to play)
4. Sonic 1 (dated in many ways of course, but still damn good)
5. Sonic Unleashed PS3/360 (probably one of the most uneven games ever, but it's amazing when it's good; I could replay Rooftop Run and Jungle Joyride forever)
6. Sonic Rush/Adventure (dat soundtrack, mainly the first game; pretty fun game too, and even had a new character that was actually good for once)
7. Sonic CD (really didn't care for the time travel crap and Wacky Workbench sucks, but still Classic Sonic fun)
8. Sonic Adventure (it has a ton of jank, but Sonic's campaign is good; Red Mountain and Sky Deck are particularly cool levels)
9. Sonic Spinball (really enjoyed the gameplay in this one, even managed to beat it once; hard but fun and addictive)
10. Sonic Adventure 2 (everything that wasn't Sonic/Shadow levels sucked ass and some levels were too short/simple, but there was some fun in there)

Honorable mention: Sonic Colors Wii (really weak level design in some areas, especially Starlight Carnival being nearly complete auto-pilot and a lot of awkward 2D sections throughout the game, and controls were too nerfed from Unleashed; but it was nice finally having a modern Sonic with no BS gimmick gameplay)

The All-Star Racing titles are Sega games in my mind, not Sonic ones, so they don't count. If they did though, the first one would probably be between Rush and CD. Maybe.

1.Sonic Colors
2.Sonic CD
3.Sonic Generations
4.Sonic 3 and Knuckles
5.Sonic Adventure 2
6.Sonic Rush
7.Sonic 2
8.Sonic 1
9.Sonic Advance 2
10.Sonic Unleashed
And still plenty more I enjoyed, such as Heroes, the first Adventure, Rush 2 and the other 2 Advance titles.
