Was the PSP your first 'MP3 player?'

No, my first was a small 256mb one. Might have been Creative, but I'm not sure.

Edit: If we're counting mini-disc players, then I had a Sony one before that.

No. One of these babies:

But also something like this:

Wonder how old OP is.

No, it was the Samsung YEPP YP-E32, purchased in '99. The 32 stands for a whopping 32 MB of space.

I have a PSP since launch but never used it to play MP3's.

Yeah. But for ages I couldn't actually get any MP3's of anything I wanted, since I didn't know how to make music from iTunes work, so I just had the sound clips that come with the computer, Beethoven and stuff I think.

Naw I got a free 250mb from some bank I never used it though, so I guess in a sense the psp was my first used "mp3 player".
Naw but it was my first portable porn device.
The Day I found out I could "save as" from tube websites it was over...

I even had a MiniDisc player before I had a MP3 player, since my dad thought it was going to be the future of audio players (he was an adiophile). Boy, did that turn out great :p.

I had one! I still think MD players look, and looked, super cool. Sony knows how to make some sexy hardware.

I microwave steaks.
It wasn't my first, no, but when my first ipod died, it made a worthy replacement for the time being.

Not to mention it was a beast media player, I loved converting movie files and watching that stuff on my psp while traveling, that was high tech back in the day. Nowadays kids are spoiled.

No it wasnt . But it was my go to media player for watching videos browsing web.

It was like iphone before iphone. I always thought sony would realize this and make a phone with same specs and revamped gui with touch screen but it enver happened . Shows how shortsighted some of sony management was

Bleh, nope! Mine was the Rio Cali, which wasn't amazing, but at least it fit comfortably in my pocket.

Loved it for games, though. Seeing Ridge Racer PSP and WipEout Pure running on it for the first time was sublime.

Damn that the GB Micro and a Razr V3, all that tiny silvery goodness I had a decade ago.

No, It was the iPod nano 2nd gen.

It was really amazing having access to all those songs in such a small form factor.

I had one of those MP3 CD players first. It was amazing. I'd have CDs with 10 albums worth of music.

Must have been 4 or so years before the PSP.

I believe I had some form of "Diamond Rio" back in like '98 or '99......I think that's right. It was a couple years at least before the iPod.

Looked more like this..

I still had this til last year, the rubber on it is now melted and sticky because of how old and shit it is.

Isn't it pretty much the first multimedia device that you could play games, videos, music and browse the Internet?

No. My first was a brick-like Creative Zen thing. My friends made fun of it because it was like 2-3 times larger than the iPods of the time, but the damn thing was reliable.

I used a portable MP3 CD player till I got a psp. But I don't remember using the psp for music much because I used pc speakers in the office and a radio while in the "studio" and my cars in-dash MP3 CD player while commuting. The high cost of memory cards for the psp meant that I needed to use really low quality mp3s to hold even a couple hours, and by the time I got a large memory card I had a 30gb iPod video. iPod changed everything for me (and my old iPod still works!).

I had some weird Philips thing with removable smart media cards.

Can't say I've ever used a portable console for music, need that battery life for games.

As a matter of fact, it was. I used my PSP for all kinds of multimedia stuff, especially music, movies, and porn. That was extra money I didn't have to spend on an iPod, which couldn't play PSP and PSOne games.

Playing music with the screen off gave you like 20 hrs of battery life off the standard battery IIRC.

Yep it was, the PSP was my main media device, I would convert a ton of videos into a format the PSP could read including animes, game trailers and full movies. I would literally sit at school rewatching Super Mario Galaxy trailers aha. But yeah I used it as an MP3 a lot too. Don't want to admit it but it was my first porn machine too.

Yes! I could fit 8-9 songs on my 32mb memory card that it came with.

I remember my friend getting a 1gb memory card and we freaked out at the amount of songs he could fit on it.
