Yoichi Wada: Too cruel to Kojima, Konami trying to make the world as their enemy

Whole post translated by goldpanner:

Simply as someone who knows Mr Kojima, I want to say, how can they be this cruel! But, here are my thoughts from the point of view of a business manager.
No matter how you look at it, this can only be negative for the business.

Perhaps withdrawing substantially from home video games is the management policy, but it makes no sense to make the world your enemy on purpose, is there, now?

Typically, this sort of thing happens when the manager is absent. Perhaps there is no leader to design and watch over the details of the enterprise as a whole. In other words the lack of aim behind this is itself the problem, that's my impression. All the decisions get dumped on the office. The office may deal with it disinterestedly. However, if you can't see when what you feel from your own station is out of sync with the world, then the results will be unfortunate.

There was an article a while ago that referenced similar points concerning the logo change for JAL and ANA (I managed to find the article, so I copied it into the comment section).

They've done a lot for us, but for things to come to this I am a little worried.

First time in a long time that I've really felt a bond with Wada-san.

.......this.

For all the negative things I could throw at Wada, he always seemed (at least on the surface) to treat those 'legacy' designers/developers within his company with respect even in troubling times.

*dodges bottles from Hiroyuki Ito fans* :p

He brings up an interesting question however, Konami powerpoint joke slide aside, what exactly is Konami's plan pulling shit like this?

I had to read up a bit on Wada. He strikes me as a genuine fellow.

On Piracy said:
Nevertheless, Wada noted that "no matter what happens, what can be copied will be copied", and that Square Enix thus needs to base its business on "something that cannot be copied"; he cited personalized saves and "the worth of the human relationships in the communities that build around the games" as possible solutions.

He did with Uematsu. He went to a fortune teller to get and advice and they told him to move the company which caused Uematsu to leave.

That strikes me as something an adorably naive fool would do(I mean that in the most endearing way.)

It's actually quite adorable.

So had Wada anything to do with the departures of Hironobu Sakaguchi and Yasumi Matsuno?
Yes.

Wish I could pull up the old anaron thread that went into very deep detail about how Wada almost single-handedly derailed Squaresoft.

No matter how many times I read this, I can't believe it happened.

Obviously we don't know what happened with the kojima situation. My feelings Konami should have let their MGSV be their swan song and bow out graciously. Now this huge kerfuffle means Konami will never be able to get back into AAA gaming ever again, should their business see an upturn.

Let's say when you were younger you opened a lemonade stand.
The lemonade was amazing and you formed a fanbase of children in your neighborhood. For years they would come around, thirsty for that lemonade. You spent money to enrich that product, but you made money back. You formed a reputation in your city. You also employed some talented kids from the neighborhood to help make and sell your product too. Things were swell.

You get older and cooler. You start wearing hammer pants and shades. Eventually the kids aren't enough- and you start another business. Let's say an escort service.
You try doing both- lemonade by day, attractive ladies-of-the-night by evening. You start making more money on the latter and begin losing interest in the former even though the kids still love you.

Over time you prefer the smell of crisp bills over the feel of dirty change. You start spending less time at the lemonade stand. You outsource your product to homeless people who (whether knowingly or not) begin adding pee to the lemonade. Eventually, all you want to do is spend time with your escorts and say "fuck off" to all the thirsty little children. On your way over to permanently closing the lemonade stand, you look your most talented worker that has been with you since Kool & the Gang was a hit on the radio square in the eyes, dick-punch him, and proceed to burn the lemonade stand down while a group of children watch in horror.

The end.
A terrible analogy in honor of Konami Computer Entertainment. :{

I can't believe how shitty Konami has treated him.

Just shows you're just another employee no matter how successful you are.

I hope Kojima could start his own independent studio.

i'm so interested in the story from konami's side.
i want to know wtf kojima did to piss them off so hard xD

Bu......but... wasn't it a fortune teller that told Uematsu he was about to have something really amazing happen in his life just prior to being hired by Square in the mid-'80s?

What is going on with these Japanese fortune tellers? o_O

Japanese fortune tellers basically follow the ancient Greek tradition, modelling themselves after the seers who made Oedipus kill his dad by telling him he was going to kill his dad.

If Wada, the man who sinked Square Enix, is saying that Konami is taking poor business decisions, Konami must be really fucking everything up.

Wait... is this serious ???

Well, yes. As I understand it, fortune tellers are something serious in Japan, more than in the west at least. The thing is that after Wada took control of S-E they had to move the central offices somewhere because the company was going to become huge (understandable), and so he went to a fortune teller to advise him on the best possible location. Mind you this is a somewhat common practice in Japan, at least that's what I think from what I've read.

So they chose a location which didn't suit Uematsu, he was Nobuo fucking Uematsu and he decided he was not gonna move, so he didn't and left the company. Keep in mind that the main motive for Uematsu to leave S-E was probably Wada taking over and fucking up everything the Gooch (a very, very, very good friend of Uematsu) stood for, so this was a good excuse as any.

It's endearing and adorable until you find out YOUR boss is also taking business advice from fortune tellers.

I still stick to my Theory that Konami executives accidentally got a giant drug delivery that was for Sonic Team. Which allowed those to get of there trip and make Colors and Generations while Konami slowly spiraled into hitting into madness.

On a serious note. Why would you ever fuck with any kind of audience. You don't know how many of those people are a shard audience between what ever else you want to be. Pissing off people is never a good business decision

Kojima doesn't deserve the way Konami treats him. He is no Kawazu!

Are you drunk?
Kawazu always deliver on time and doesn't even make costly projects.
His last project was a fucking mobile game and he's working on a Vita game after a generation of working on Wii&DS games!
