Right from Greg on the topic

Mm. An interesting point.

I don't think our audience expects (and yes, I did see what you did there and I liked it) us to do anything. Remember: we're not trying to be IGN. We're not games journalists. The fun part of Kinda Funny is that we cover what we're passionate about and give you our honest opinions.

Sony sending a Pro would've been interesting and a risk for them. I don't see the need for one: could using one and playing my games on it have changed my mind or cemented my stance that this is cool if you need a PS4 but isn't worth rushing out for?

We're not sold on the Pro. Sure, we could've bought one as a company, but here's the sad truth for PlayStation -- it never occurred to us to entertain that idea. We're the people with the No. 1 PlayStation podcast, and I haven't thought about wanting a Pro since before the reveal event.

Why would I spend my company's money on something I don't believe in? You can say because that's the coverage our viewers expect, but I don't buy it. Let's Plays aren't a big portion of our content, so it doesn't work there. The shows we do are talking about the industry. The reviews I've read justify not pulling the trigger and dropping $400 on the Pro.

Yet.

Does that make sense? I feel like you're holding us to a standard reserved for a GameSpot or a review site.

Greg Miller was just on Live with YouTube Gamkng talking about the Pro launch. While discussing it he said Kinda Funny are not willing to cover the Pro as they were not sent one from Sony.

Any thoughts on the spoiled "media outlets" attitudes like this?

Kinda Funny's business model puts them in a position to take stances like this. I would assume that if their fan base disapproves, it will become evident in their Patreon numbers.

This uh, does seem a little weird, but is this about early impressions or just a regular console? I can only really understand minor complaining about the former.

Sony's been pretty clear that they don't want you to have more than 1. They probably don't want people to see with 1080p screens that there really isn't much difference. These guys are known to be pretty brutal against things they don't like.It is odd that Sony didn't send one to their most hardcore "influencers".

That does sound entitled but they're allowed to create the content they want to, not what other people expect them to.

I may not have gotten a PS VR to review but that didn't stop me from going out to get one out of pocket because I wanted to write about the games.

I mean it's their right. But they have to know their fanbase is going to be dissapointed. Dissapointment that could have been avoided by both Sony and KFG.

They got some connects with Shu and Shawn. I'm betting they'll eventually get one for free.

That's up to them. I personally think the pro is stupid so I can't be upset. Either way, backed by patreon or not, it's still their choice. It doesn't force them to cover everything game related.

It's their call, if they don't feel PS Pro offers them a good reason to upgrade why should they? They're not journalist they're pundits so they can make these decisions
Personally I've given up on KF

Seems pretty shitty for them to do that when their model is viable because people are willing to pay for their opinion.

Not much of reporting integrity there.

What exactly is the problem with them not wanting to spend their own money to advertise Sony's product?

It's kind of their job I think.

LOLOLOL Colin pissed off Shu.

I know you're probably joking but they're friends with Shu and they have a panel at PSX this year.

Neither of them are interested in having the Pro personally so they don't have the desire to buy it. They don't have to cover the pro even if they had a dedicated PlayStation podcast.

They are not "official" media outlet, or "journalist", just another YouTube personality.
They can cover or not cover anything they like. I don't see the problem.

Its them specialising in PlayStation affairs, having a ps podcast and refusing to spend money to cover the launch of a new ps4 console and only wanting a free handout.

You have a top PlayStation podcast in PS I Love You XOXO, constantly shil- I mean, present for Sony, hold panels at PlayStation Experience, run a top podcast for IGN about PlayStation and get paid SIX HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR (before fees and taxes) from fans, and you're not going to cover the PS4 Pro because you don't want to buy one?

Jesus fucking christ.

How is this a "stance"? (serious question, I know nothing about these people)

The stance is "We won't help you with coverage unless you help us". I don't agree with it personally, and wouldn't support Kinda Funny. I already don't find what they do to be personally valuable, but plenty of people obviously do. I doubt that this will have a major effect on their fan support.

i watch both gamescast and ps xoxo and i consider this insulting as they are ps centric (didnt watch video btw)

This is the important part they run the biggest PS podcast on the internet why not let your fanbase know that Sony didnt provide them one and that you had to go out and get one. Its a win win makes you look good and Sony bad. What do i know though i have really begun to sour on them over the past few months.

Colin slammed the PS4 Pro saying noone needs it, and his reasoning was there are bigger problems in gaming to solve (like better story telling) as if that's the platform holders responsibility... So I say, good, let them buy their own. They're being entitled.

I haven't watched the link yet, but is the only reason why they're not covering the Pro is because they weren't sent one? Or did they mention other reasons as well?

They've both been personally against the system so I don't blame them for not buying one themselves. They are a niche outlet, so they don't need to cover everything.

Meh. Can't believe people are upset about this. It's not their job to do anything. It's their job to be Internet personalities. That's it. They give their opinions on games but are not required to cover anything they don't want to.
