Idea Factory's inevitable PC release officially announced.

Idea Factory International will release Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force for PC via Steam in summer 2017, the publisher announced.

The PC release will include both English and Japanese text.

Here is an overview of the game, which is currently available for PlayStation 4:

About

Long ago, a war was waged between the Vile God and the Goddess.

The battle was fierce; the two were equally matched. Finally, both sides unleashed special weapons that contained fairies imbued with their power. Using this power, each god sealed away the other within another world. And so, time passed… The weapons that the Goddess and the Vile God left were called Furies, and the warriors who used them were called Fencers. Rumors arose that the Furies were so powerful, whoever collected them all would be granted one wish. As a result, Fencers fought each other endlessly to obtain them.

By chance, a young man named Fang happened to unwittingly become a Fencer, and saved a girl named Tiara. And she, too, was a Fencer. From that day forward, Fang found himself an important part of the battle between the Goddess and the Vile God.

Key Features

Three Stories, Three Paths! In the three stories to play – the Goddess story, the Vile God story, and the Evil Goddess story – friends become foes, foes become friends, and, based on your choices, multiple endings can be unlocked!
Three Ways to Fight and Fairize! Play in Easy, Normal, or Hard mode and switch the difficulty up whenever you want to balance the game to your playstyle!
Three’s a Crowd, Six is a Party! With up to six party members on the battlefield at a time, you can play as all your favorite Fencers!
Shape the World Around You! Customize weapons by fusing them with fairies and change dungeons stats through world-shaping. Even power up Fencers through the fairies’ power to transform, or fairize, during battle and change your world!

Thanks, DualShockers.

Hakuouki: Kyoto Winds coming west in spring 2017

Another otome game headed westward.

Otome visual novel Hakuouki: Kyoto Winds, released as Hakuouki: Shinkai – Kaze no Shou in Japan, will launch for PS Vita in North America and Europe in spring 2017, publisher Idea Factory International announced.

Thanks, @RPGSite.

Set my alarm for 3AM for this, it was absolutely goddamn worth it. Mary Skelter was the #1 game I wanted to see localised.

RPG Site are saying the event is now over, so that's your lot.

I'll be picking up Dark Rose Valkyrie and Mary Skelter for sure, possibly Hakuoki too. Already have FFF on PS4 so won't bother getting it on Steam.

I'm surprised that Idea Factory is doing Hakuoki by themselves instead of letting Aksys license it from them, I figured they didn't care about otome games very much.

That's a huge money maker for IF. They have their own otome line.

I know they've been doing quite well in Japan, I just wasn't sure of how successful they were in the West. I know that Aksys at the very least found great success with them, but I can't recall many otome games coming over that they didn't publish, outside of Amnesia. On that topic, I hope that Aksys gives some release dates for those three otome games they grabbed in the summer. I was really interested in two of them.

Off topic somewhat, but I really wish that Atelier otome game that came out on PSP released later than it did. I really wanted to play it, and I feel that if it had been released now it would have gotten localized for sure.

Mary Skelter looks like the most vita ass vita game to ever vita.

Isn't Hakouki a fairly old property at this point? I seem to recall hearing about like 5 years ago

Nice, dunno about Mary Skelter but I'll proabably get DRV at some point. Still need to get FFF on PS4 though. With everything that's coming out soon I probably won't get around to it until next spring :S.

I like the art of Dark Rose Valkyrie, which is a rarity with IF games, but I'm not sure if I want to buy it day one.

So is Hakuouki: Kyoto Winds a remake or sequel to the PS3/3DS Hakuouki game?

It's a remake, but it's only the first part so it's probably not a good title for someone who hasn't played the original. Unless they're already planning on localizing the second part.

While that's true, doesn't it have additional content compared to the original, putting the length at about the same?

It must be since they had to split the game into two. Honestly, I already found the original game to be pretty long, and I have no interest in the remake, so I'm not the best judge.

It has six more routes and one old route got expanded.

I hope IFI plans on bringing the second part as well though.

And yay for Mary Skelter! Getting that as well.

For anyone curious about info on Mary Skelter did up an import impression thread. Im about 70-80% done with the game as is. Have not done a newer update to where Im at currently though. But overall its quite impressive to see the effort that they did put into the title. While its far from being perfect, it most def is a game that is worth picking up for ones Vita library if you enjoy the DRPG genre.

One thing for sure is they really did put a lot of effort into the designs with the dungeons as they used a lot of decorations and such in them and each one most def feels different aesthetically due to that. Also the story itself is quite interesting so that is the main reason to keep playing to see where it all goes.

Main concern for folks in the West is if they decide to dub it or not. Since that can really make or break characters, the quality of the voice work and direction.

It says on the websites for the games they put up that Dark Rose Valkyrie and Mary Skelter are both dual audio, so that's good.

Nice only went to the gematsu article. Will go check out the Mary Skelter website now. Very good to see that they went that route. As might as well if the option is available in order to scrape in as much sales from both sides of the camp.

Will be interesting to see how the English voice work turns out for the characters.

One thing to keep in mind for Mary Skelter is that you should not expect the game to release in either Australia or Germany. Rubbing mechanics and/or younger characters (MS has both) have not sat well with their ratings boards over the past few months and I would not expect things to change in this case.

Just hope their gameplay is actually good although I heard fairy fencer da is a vast improvement over its predecessor

I can't speak for Australia, but it doesn't need to happen for Germany.

I quote the official usk.de (English version) website:

The USK now hands over responsibility for the classification procedure to the Classification Committee where the tester presents the game. Neither the USK nor the testers issue an age suggestion.

Child protection experts are independent

A Classification Committee comprises four child protection experts and one Permanent Representative of the Supreme Youth Protection Authorities of the Federal States (OLJB). A total of 50 child protection experts from the 16 Federal States have been appointed. These experts have experience with working with issues affecting children and young persons. They may be teachers, journalists, social scientists or work for children’s social services. They are interested in interactive media and are not employed in either the hardware or software branches. They share a common interest in computer games and child protection. The games industry does not provide any child protection experts itself.

So four of the five members of the "Classification Committee" will be changed all the time and it really depends on who sits there. Based on many past rating you can really see how sometimes there are people who have some issues with these depictions and sometimes not. E.g. all Hyperdimension Neptunia games are rated for ages 12 and above in Germany with the exception of Victory which is USK 16.
There is no reason why this one should be rated differently and I asked for a clarification and the answer lead me to believe that at least one member of the committee, who was only present for the rating of Victory, was not exactly happy with the representation of women in this game.

However I don't know enough of Mary Skelter to judge whether or not it is guilty of Darstellung von Minderjährigen in unnatürlicher, geschlechtsbetonter Körperhaltung (Posendarstellungen)

Hard to translate this into English, but it's regarding the depiction of minors in clearly sexual poses (even 2D characters). This is among the reasons to put a game on the "index" as it can be seen as an "entry gate" into real child pornography apparently.

So I'm hearing that I should be importing... Gotcha!

Btw which recent game wasn't released in Germany because of such an issue? I thought it was MeiQ, but that's rated USK 16 in Germany.

Criminal Girls 2 and Valkyrie Drive

And it happened for the reason you posted above, you can find detailed replies from the USK about their decision for CG2 if you google for it.

On the other hand, we got Gal Gun with USK 16, which includes the same kind of content.

I thought it was MeiQ as well, but it's actually Valkyrie Drive and Criminal Girls 2.

MeiQ was only banned/not rated in Australia

Ehh, I would honestly say it's probably leaning that way with some of the characters. I mean the rubbing scenes were basically the only reason why some of us thought it wouldn't make it outside of Japan considering they're actually pretty lewd and you could easily consider a minimum of 2 characters to be potential minors. Considering they're actually bringing it out though, it's probably safe to assume it's been rated in the US already and they feel like it's a safe enough bet for the rest of the EU, because I don't see them making the announcement for it if they haven't had it checked somewhere already.

Interesting, CG2 and VD were apparently submitted at the same time or close to each other, so it's likely the same persons were in the committee. Based on this and the fact similar games got a rating I still think it depends on the persons who temporarily sit in the rating board. So there is still a chance Mary Skelter gets a normal rating, because apparently there is room for interpretation.

I actually thought it looked interesting until now. Should have known better than to trust IF.

In for Mary Skelter. Dunno about BRV though, I have Advent Dark Force but for some reason I can't stand IF style dungeon crawlers on console. I enjoy them on my Vita but put one up on my TV and I can't stand it lol.

Yeah we'll see

I'm fully prepared to import though.

Funnily, VD and CG2 are both freely sold on amazon.de. The only thing that happens when the games aren't rated is that you can't get DLC. It's dumb

So has the story moved on in Hakuoki or do they just keep adding more husbandos in every iteration?

This is the first time they added new routes. The idea was to show the Edo period from different perspectives other than the Shinsengumi. Meaning the story has been expanded. There's also new music, new cgs etc.

What is exactly this Fairy Fencer game? It sounds exactly like the first game going by that description. Is it a remake?
