INTRODUCTION
____________________________________________________________________

LAUNCH DATE: (Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Middle East, Africa) Friday March 23rd

In September Sony decided to delay the PS3 release in the PAL regions to the dismay of many. March was the period given for launch and even that was doubted by a few until
January of this year when the launch date was announced. The wait has not been in vain though as unlike the regions which got the console last year, we won't suffer from a small library of games on day one among some other infant problems (we do however have to suffer being the first customers who get a PS3 without the PS2 chipset making our PS2 BC a bit shaky from day one though 72% of the games will be compatible at launch including GOW2 with more updates coming).

For day one there is promised around 30 games, one million consoles and a significant firmware update. It is clearly the best launch in the history of PlayStation and if you want one, chances are that you will get one. Another thing is that you can reserve your online ID right now if there's a special name you want. Also, the 500 000 first to sign onto the PSNetwork (with their actual console) will receive the Casino Royale Blu-ray movie (actual retail version) for free. First party games will be offered for a lower price than the rest and there's a introductory period for PSN games with lower prices in that area as well. There are big promises for later this year as well with many truly epic and exclusive games and not to mention Sony's revolutionizing Home service coming this fall. Sony are kick starting their reach in the PAL countries and everyone is invited to the party.

It is important to note that the SIXAXIS PS3 controller has two noteworthy new additions, outside of the 'home' central PS button, wireless and controller # indicators. For one, it can detect 'six degrees of motion' - thus, the name - and it has no rumble functionality. The controller motion control is utilized in such titles as Warhawk, L.A.I.R and Super Rub’a'Dub among others and offers a new layer of interactivity for those interested. For more in-depth information, read the Press Release.

The system also supports the use of up to 7 controllers simultaneously.

Sony PR Feb 26th said:
European PLAYSTATION 3 First Party Software Pricing Announced

London, 26 February 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced pricing details for its first party title launch line-up, to accompany the 23rd March 2007 launch of PLAYSTATION®3.

Providing details of the prices to be charged for first party software available on both disc and through the PLAYSTATION®Network1, SCEE confirmed that its five disc based launch titles, including the highly acclaimed Motorstorm™ and Resistance: Fall of Man™ will be priced at an RRP of €59.99 (£39.99, AUD 99.95, NZ 109.95).

In addition to the disc based games SCEE also announced that exclusive and innovative experiences developed especially for download from the PLAYSTATION®Network such as BlastFactor, flOw and Super Rub a Dub, together with iconic gaming brands such as Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection will be made available for an introductory period at prices which range from €2.99 to €9.99 (Edit:
GBP 1.99 to GBP 6.99) depending on the specific title.

Other first party content available on the PLAYSTATION®Network such as game items and premium video content will be priced on an easy to understand sliding scale of charges starting as low as €0.99 and increasing depending on the scope of the product. This could range from a new SingStar track to a premium pack for MotorStorm, which would include a new track, additional vehicles, liveries and multiplayer modes.

In announcing these prices, David Reeves, President and CEO of SCEE said, “Not only will it be completely free to register on the PLAYSTATION®Network with no subscription fees and access to many free demos, but with these competitive prices for additional content we are able to offer the consumer both top quality games on Blu-ray discs and a whole range of downloadable content from the PLAYSTATION®Network. With over 30 first and third party disc and network games available at launch, we are confident that this will be one of the most successful launches of all time.”

I've asked before, but I don't think I've ever got answered on it. But is that list of titles day one? or the list of titles that will span over a couple weeks or so? Pretty nice list either way imo.

I think they originally said launch window but then they also promised over 30 games at launch day (there's 37 games there). Maybe one or two won't be there on day one but we're not certain which one (if any of them, the must haves and the network titles are 'locked' though).

Alright thanks. Kinda worried about R6V not being there, I have a feeling it will get delayed to april like the psp version was.

I'm now extremely iffy about my PS3 purchase. Still waiting on deals but the BC news has had a MAJOR impact on my desire to own one.

Can aussies post deals?

Right now here's what I know:

HarveyNorman + Domayne

have cashback deals but only if you get a home theatre system or Bravia with the ps3s. Not sure if this is good or not. Not so great if you need neither. Values of cashback ranges from $600-400.

Target + Toyrus

same deal. Preorder a PS3 and get $50 off a game

Myer

This might be the best or not. But preorder a console and get a coupon of up to $1200 value. Got to check out what's in the coupon thing though

I'm personally keen on:

RESISTANCE
VF5
MOTORSTORM
FLOW

I don't get how OBLIVION is a must get. It bored me to tears on the xbox360.

Pre ordered mine yesterday!
Resistance and Motorstorm aswell.
I will be the first PAL PS3 gamer to log onto PSN, and guarantee my Casino Royal movie.
24 Days to go. Cant wait!

It's nothing you can get around though as this is how it will be going forward (with NA & Japan to follow very soon probably). The bc will improve with firmware updates though.

well, did sony say this? I tell you this... "will improve" easily equates to "hold off purchase til its improved"

I don't want to get into this too much here but Sony might be able to pull it off... their PSX/PSP emulation software is top class.

Hey there, JAX.

Print the following and take it to any EB, and they will price match, or if you have a Gametraderes close to you try them first.

Also, if you live in Queensland and live close to the Indooripilly Harvey Norman they have a preorder special of - PS3 console, One game of your choice and one extra SIXAXIS controller. $999 if you pre order.

They said so in the official press release but they also said they would focus on PS3 software in the future so who knows. They said they would keep releasing updates to it for the time being though and the March firmware patch already has the first update.

I'm genuinely excited for you PAL gamers.

The last 3+ months with the PS3 have been wonderful. Sure, there haven't been a bunch of big games (I was use to that from the PS2 launch), but games like Resistance, RR7, and the PSN... and especially Blu-Ray in 1080p, have made this very memorable so far.

Enjoy lads. It's worth the wait. :)

Although i don't live in the UK, I am honestly thinking of buying a ps3, not really that many games that interest me are on the direct horizon. I want to play resistance but I want more right now to justify all the spending. It's so tempting though lol

I couldn't be less interested in a console launch to be totally honest. The price for entry is just too steep for me. I'll be waiting until Silent Hill 5 is released. Then I'm all over the PS3 like some guy who's all over something.

I'm interested in the console, but I'll wait for more games. The only one I'm interested in is Resistance, and having tried it on a jap console, it isn't something I'm dying for: I can wait. Probably next christmas will be the right moment.

Regarding the follow up until summer it looks like L.A.I.R (May), SingStar (May), Warhawk (June) and Heavenly Sword (June?) may be some first party offerings.

I've preordered a PS3, Motorstorm and Resistance. Planning on getting Oblivion soon too. Can't wait!

But... you guys are giving me way too many ideas on how I can spend more money :D

So any word on when the 20G version is going to get released? I mean other than, "middle of the year", "when demand for the 60G dies down" type of information.

No date set. I wouldn't expect it before this autumn though to be honest because right now Europe is a big budget savior due to the valuta differences and since the earnings are better on the 60GB version (in production the additional equipment doesn't cost 100$ more) they will probably wait til after summer before releasing the 20GB version I would guess.

Viddie said:

If you log in by the first 12 hours I would consider that Blu-ray secured. I don't expect all consoles to sell through on the first day (I'm expecting one week actually to cross 800k) and you also got to figure in all those consoles not logged on at launch day.

I have a day off at work on launch and pre-ordered my PS3. I'll be probably getting Motorstorm and Resistance. flOw is also a must-have for me.

Btw, I have been thinking about this. Remember the wine cooler incident? I don’t want my PS3 to be a repeat of that (yes, I am paranoid).

If I place my PS3 where the fake PS3 is placed in this pic, would it be too close to the subwoofer?

Absolutely. Ideally the PS3 should be in a separate building. If possible on a different continent.

Black hawk down and Kingdom in heaven are the best show case titles so far, from what I've heard here on GAF, and Open Season, and Crank. There are a few. :)

Kingdom of Heaven DC is supposed to be the current benchmark for video/sound quality. Also, the Directors Cut version of the movie itself is also supposed to be significantly better as well.

Also, if you're on the first 500 000 who log onto the network, you will get the Casino Royale BD for free by Sony.
