Korg DS-10 came out in Japon a couple of days ago, and folks in Japan have started to get their copies, and have already begun making music.

For those who aren't familiar with the Korg DS-10, there is an interview on GameVideos http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/19545

Here are some official videos:

It indeed sounds amazing. Is it any similar to the NitroTracker hombrew application? I thought that was one of the most polished homebrew applications I've seen. How import-friendly is it? Might be my chance to start making some music of my own, as much as I currently suck with NitroTracker :lol not that I have really tried.

Also how does one retrieve the music from the DS? It's easy with that app I mentioned since you'd have to be using a Micro SD to use it on the first place, but how does this work?

The whole game apparently seems to be in English. Instructions, not so much.

Saw a demo of this at E3... didn't understand a word the guy was saying. I think you already need to know how to use a Korg synthesizer to get much out of this software. It's really impressive for a DS product but NOT accessible or user-friendly.

Wow that's really incredible. I'll definitely buy this to support more stuff like this coming here even if I don't understand it at all. Still would be really fun to play around with.

Also that 30 minutes song is awesome.

Sarcasm in text just doesn't work, man!

i know, i know.

someone will seriously make a comment like that at some point..."lol, why would i want that...it's not even a game, IGN gave it a 2...more non-games for the nintendo console lololo"

i can't wait to get it. will be very fun to mess with!

I hope it gets here soon. Band Brothers DX took about 2 and a half weeks to get here from Play Asia, which is way longer than usual.

Can't believe it's just under $70 including postage though. Hope it gets to the UK without customs being their usual fuckery selves.

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
superb. the ds was the only computer in my house deprived of any tracker/synth love, and now it'll catch up big time. any advice for a cheap mix board (as i happen to have more than one ds around me)?

btw, big thanks to sp0rsk for the niconico howto.

related (semi-on-topic): in case any of you is into desktop trackers, you owe it to yourself to check out renoise - it takes it all to the next level.

Ah finally a Korg DS-10 thread :D

I was going to import it when I found out about this awhile back but decided to stay my hand for a few months and wait for the US release. Those videos are all sorts of awesome.

I'm really only interested in buying this if I can upload my creations from my DS to my computer to use them with my recording software. Can that be done?

Christ I hate getting all psyched to see a game only to click the freaking link and its nicovideo. (Yes I know about the thread with instructions on how to register. But I'm still not gonna.)

As long as you have a line-in port on your soundcard and some recording software, it sure can! :D I'll be doing the same thing. Though I wish there was a way to store it on my MicroSD card...

Totally gonna grab this, mostly for the drum machine feature. It looks really bad ass.

PS is this 50 or 30$

Half the fun is figuring out how to use the synth, and it is surprisingly easy to do so. It's really a hell of a lot easier than it looks.

It's not actually trolling if you don't admit it
Pretty cool.

The one thing this has over Beatmaker on iPhone is the piano soft synth. Hopefully they'll add a piano roll into Beatmaker in future updates. I do like the fact that Beatmaker has .wav exports and the ability to import your own samples/kits. Someone on the Intua forums just posted a 140 MB zip of 8-bit drums/bass/loops/glitches and pops. Sick.

I think it's great that music composition software have arrived on some pretty mass market mobile devices.

I agree. I've been using Pocket Music on Game Boy Advance for a few years, and while it's a surprisingly robust sequencer chop full of various samples (synths, instruments, all sorts of drum kits, etc), I'm so glad to see more software really pushing things forward. Not to mention, Pocket Music's volume output was so low, it'll be nice to actually hear what I'm creating this time!

Ordered this sucka on Friday, am messing my pants in anticipation. I can't wait to get stuck in with that 8-bit goodness! We have to keep this thread going as a support-group/tips-repository, it could become quite the invaluable resource I think.

Can't wait till we get some real GAF hands-on impressions!!

Also, does anyone know what the step-limit is in this? My music-vocab isn't too hot, but how many beats/notes can you get in a loop before it goes back to the start? I'll be okay with 16 but 32 and up would be ace, I like playing with tiny beats.
