Seems the UK doesn't know the REAL TRUTH about Tomb Raider Underworld!!!!!! :lol

Underworld is being given for free through a 360 bundle, the same doesn't apply for the PS3 version which is only available as a standalone full price game.

Hasn't it had huge price drops, though? It's £25 on Amazon UK and a couple days ago when I checked it was like £17.

It's 7 in the value charts. Judging by the value charts the last couple of weeks, the average unit value hasn't been as low, or at least any lower, than some other titles that have been bumped-by-discount, and LBP has hung on longer than others that have been discounted too.

It might also have something to do with word spreading of it being a fantastic game :p

Who really cares though? It's a great game selling to more people, which is a good thing in any case.

I'd be really curious to see numbers for the UK alone over the last month. It's been top 10 for 3 of the busiest weeks of the year, which can't be an inconsiderable amount of games.

Yes, quite heavy discounting in a lot of places and bundling, too...though I'm not sure bundles count in sales. Either way, I am glad it is getting into consumers' hands.

For what was the cheapest console out there, Wii software remains full price for extremely long periods of time compared to the HD consoles. I mean, I don't own a PS3 or 360 (hope to next year), but if I did, I'd never buy software for either of these consoles on day 1. Nearly everything seems to get discounted within a couple of weeks of release (Fable 2, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space...being just some examples). It's crazy. All in all, the more expensive consoles really wouldn't be that expensive in the long run ;)

Was LBP like £17 a couple of days ago again and did Amazon sell the game themself? LBP was about £17 maybe a week ago or so on Amazon, but then it was not sold by Amazon themself if i recall correctly. I am not sure how much it actually matters if Amazon sells the game(s) themself or not though, as long as you can get it for that price, but i just wanted to mention it :) But £17 for LBP still a great price i must say no matter which retailer that is selling it :)

Whats wrong with the servers? They seem to run fine for me. Or is it a euro thing?

Joining someone or inviting someone is sometimes an exercise in futility. I have High-speed internet (cable), and it's connected, and I almost can never join. Or no one can join me.

And the kicker is that it was fine a few weeks ago. I think what happened is that the servers are getting slammed from all the people who may have bought this for Christmas, or maybe that's wishful thinking.

Whatever the case, it also takes ages to get into user-created levels.

Gears 2 is also like 25 pounds on Amazon. So is Fallout 3. Point?

OT, but..

These problems must be localised for some users (either server-side in certain areas, or client-side due to connections)..I've mostly had a fine online experience. There was bad lag with a couple of people I tried to play with, but with most others it's been fine.

(This is from experience up to and including the weekend just past).

Some people have said they've problems with LBP but not with other games, which leads me to suspect it's less tolerant of certain types of connection than other games. But these problems are by no means universal.

SovanJedi

provides useful feedback
Professor Layton must've had HUGE shortages; 2nd hand copies in the UK could fetch up to £50 online sometimes over the Christmas period, way more than the game costs brand new.

If they had the supplies that game would've done stonkingly good, and quite rightly too.

CNN Money: funfair games a sinking ship, sales plummet.
WSJ: hope fades for Funfair Games as a Comeback Player.

I hope that was sarcasm because the comparison to the PS3 news threads is in no way similar.

Carnival Games is a shovelware title that has amassed huge sales and massive profit. the PS3 is a expensive piece of hardware that has consistently lost money and is having trouble finding its footing in a 3 console race

I think only bundles done by the console manufacturers (in the box themselves) aren't counted LBP is just in store bundles, usually they just pick them off the shelves and scan them in.

LBP has been heavily discounted but I believe its back up to full price pretty much everywhere now.

Underworld has been getting advertised heavily with a 360 jump in at the end as well as being cheap and available in a bundle which probably explains the big difference between both console versions.

Prince of Persia will be disappointing for Ubisoft, all I ever see the advert for it and its even been updated to say its £20 at Argos.

More bullshit with Layton, the game is simply nowhere to be found it would have been number one throughout all December/Christmas if they had enough copies to stock.

My parents ask me about Layton. :lol

Good to see Wii Music dying a death.

It's got legs like Stephen Hawking. Yeah, you can see them but they aren't worth shit.

does wiifit have supply issues in the UK again?

Yes, most stores are selling wii fit as part of some £110 bundle, finding Wii Fit on its own is real hard, most retailers are importing them from Europe and sticking a £30-40 premium on them.

On ebay.co.uk, Wii Fits go for £110-£130 depending on the demand. Nintendo really really needs to up shipping of the damn things to the UK.

Edit: For reference RRP for Wii Fit is £69.99

I'm surprised 100 Classic Book Collection didn't chart, considering it was the 10th Best Seller at Amazon UK over the weekend (now sold out), it's the No.1 selling DS game at Play.com, it's sold out at HMV, it's one of the best sellers at GAME and copies are going for more than the RRP on eBay (for example, I'm selling the cartridge alone and it's already at £18.75 with over a day left!).

Some games should have much lower prices to start with. Things like Little Big Planet, Bloom Box, Blast Works, World of Goo (the PAL retail version), and so on. Yeah, I know these are great games, and are worth full price. But they sell a lot better at a lower price and I'm sure it would benefit the publishers (they should look up Price Elasticity in an encyclopedia).

Yes it seems to be doing really well considering the jump a few 360 titles are enjoying.

It's the same for every new release.

You can't see why a game released the day after Christmas and registering 2 days of sales might not sell as many as those available in the run-up to the biggest gift buying holiday of the year and registering 6?

39 in the DS alone chart - DS games traditionally rise in their 2nd week. Perfectly placed to get in on the 'game for my new DS crowd'.

Wii Music is still doing better than most people thought, even if it is down this week to 12th on Wii (not seen it discounted like 3rd party titles tho). Played it at the parents and it's actually a lot more involving than I'd thought.

LBP seems to be the go to game for new PS3 owners. Hooray!

Lock's Quest is £12.50 in GameStation this week so I picked that up instead of the big name titles that will continue to price collapse their way through Jan. COD is vastly reduced in GS this week too so expect that to stay high next week.

You can't see why a game released the day after Christmas and registering 2 days of sales might not sell as many as those available in the run-up to the biggest gift buying holiday of the year and registering 6?

The boxing day sales on Fri, followed by a Sale Saturday would see massive amounts of people in the stores. It's no different to any other week of the year really - especially as there is one day missing as you pointed out (although online sales on the 25th in the UK would still see action). Casual games, esp. those on DS and Wii rarely have explosive starts and tend to rise in the following week. With the level of discounted stock out there at the moment and the length of the queues I think everything in the main top 40 is selling good chunks - expect the next ELSPA blurb to have a lot of 100k titles.

Exactly, especially with Nintendo's big TV advertising campaign. I haven't seen any myself, but I know the plan was to start the ads a couple of days before Christmas and hope to pick up the post-Xmas sales. At least it started in the Top 50, unlike poor Fire Emblem, which still hasn't crept in. I fully expect 100 Classic Book Collection to rise up next week, but the sold out sites are saying up to three weeks before despatch. Actually, that's not too worrying as Prof. Layton had the same problem (and is still suffering it seems) and managed to bounce back into the Top 10 last week when re-stocked.

I'm really surprised Nintendo didn't push these two, though: Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness and Trauma Center: New Blood. Why not try to capitalise on sales of each one's predecessor? Odd.

exactly, which means it is actually less discounted than other top 10 titles :lol
Not necessarily, because other top 10 titles are also higher in the value charts or have lower MSRP to begin with.

what exactly are you talking about? Its 7th in value charts, 10th in units charts... meaning it outsold, by revenue, 3 other titles to move up to 7th by revenue...

In the other words, if LBP was discounted more than other titles, it would lose places in revenue charts, not gain them.

Without knowing the actual units sold and value sold for each title, we can only say for sure that it had a higher average value than titles it both a) sold fewer units than, and b) sold greater value than (which this week means, Sonic and Mario.. in previous weeks there were other 'discounted' titles already mentioned that it was less discounted than, though..but those titles have since dropped off below LBP, so we can't really compare them for sure any more).

It may have had an equal or higher avg unit value than others, but without the missing figures we can't say for sure.

I should really ask you to simply read my post again (and try to comprehend it this time), but ok, I'll attempt to explain it as thoroughly as possible:

The titles that outsold LBP by units but not by value are Mario & Sonic, Wii Play and Brain Training. All of these have a lower MSRP (that is, the 'starting price' without any discounts) than LBP, and thus do not need to be "more discounted" than LBP for this to happen.

well, it certainly had higher average per unit sold if it outsold games that sold more units :).

Just because 1-2 stores heavily discount an item, does not mean average game sold is at that price. For instance Mario and Sonic sold for 20 GBP at Amazon while LBP was 18 GBP last week, and yet LBP jumped it over on average per unit sold.

What we do know, is that last week LBP generated 7th best revenue in the UK... quite important figure, because it is obviously creating a lot of revenue for publisher (7th best) despite what price it is selling at (or what we think it is selling at)...

now we are getting techinical, eh? It is not only those Wii games - it could have been outsold by NFS for PS3, or FIFA PS3, or any other game that was behind it in units, if price that LBP was selling at was unique to it... which it wasnt, because obviously most games dropped prices for holidays.

Does not matter how you put it, LBP is 7th best revenue generator for week ending 27th of Dec in UK, no matter what the price is/was.

Obviously game has huge staying power.

Technical? I'm trying to use as simple terms as possible here and my point has been the same all along: the fact that LittleBigPlanet is higher on the value chart than the unit chart does not mean that it was "less discounted" than other games.

That's what I said. It it not "less discounted" than other games.

Looking at some other games up there in the chart, that really depends on how you define "huge".
