Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ reigns supreme at the top of the All Formats Chart for a second week, holding off challenges from the 2 big new releases: EA with ‘Need for Speed: Undercover’ new at No4 and Eidos with ‘Tomb Raider: Underworld’ new at No9.

Despite sales falling by 51%, ‘COD: World at War’ outsells the No2 title by 2.5 to 1 and does one better than its predecessor by holding on to the No1 spot for a second successive week. EA’s top title this week isn’t the new ‘Need for Speed’, it’s ‘FIFA 09’, as sales of the hugely successful football game jump 28%, up from No5 to No2. Nintendo’s ‘Mario Kart Wii’ accelerates 5 places up the Chart to No3, sales up 33%, followed by the aforementioned ‘Need for Speed: Undercover’ at No4. It is the lowest first week All Formats Chart position for a next-gen NFS title. Nintendo have gone from having one All Formats Top 10 game last week to 4 as sales of not just ‘Mario Kart Wii’, but 3 other longstanding big hitters all enjoy sales spikes – ‘Wii Fit’, up from No12 to No5 (sales up 45%), ‘Brain Training’ up from No13 to No6 (sales up 46%) and ‘Wii Play’ up from No11 to No10 (sales up 22%).

Other than the latest Call of Duty, ‘Football Manager 2009’ is the only All Formats Top 10 title to lose sales this week, down from No3 to No7 (sales down 55%), while Eidos’ latest outing for Lara Croft ‘Tomb Raider: Underworld’ only outsells the launch of last year’s original Tomb Raider remake (Tomb Raider: Anniversary) by 6,700 units. The new Tomb Raider records 51% of sales on PS3, 34% on Xbox 360 and the remainder on Wii, PC and DS. Nintendo’s ‘Wii Music’ has a strong second week, up 67% in sales from No16 to No12, while EA register the only other All Formats Top 40 new entry with ‘Left 4 Dead’ at No15. Last week’s No2 ‘World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King’ drops heavily, down from No2 to No34 with sales down 91%, which is in large part due to the newly available Blizzard download option.

Wait, you can't buy DVD-version of Wrath no more?

I didn't expect The Last Remnant to not chart at all when Infinite Undiscovery did. Looked like a bad week to release new 360 games seeing the results, Gears and Call of Duty creamed them.

Also, Loco Roco 2 didn't even make it to PSP Top10, wow.

edit: oh it charted on the PSP Top20 Budget-only. #13. That's...even worse?

Keep cramming the holiday season full of games publishers, it's no problem at all.

A lot of what's releasing will be the games i buy at Gamefly's next holiday sale. Buy Tomb Raider now, which seems like an incomplete game to begin with, or wait till it's $20 next fall or sooner? I'll wait , thanks.

14th place vs 28th place, NFS Undercover also placed higher, the hell that's weird.
As someone mentioned in the other thread... there's 14 360 games in the top 40 vs 6 PS3 games. Probably just the result of other games getting more attention on the 360.

14, four of those from console bundles.

And there are 1million+ more 360 than PS3 in Uk.

Maybe there are more TR fans with PS3, but just maybe

The 360 chart seems really crowded there's about 14 360 games in the top 40 (most probably bundles). How the heck do they expect a lot of these games to all have decent sales. It's no wonder the likes of Mirrors edge, Banjo and this week Tlr just drop hard.

Notes:
Wii has 5 in top ten.
Wii Music is holding on to legs going close to Christmas.
Tomb raider selling more on PS3 than 360
Shaun White selling more on Wii.
LBP is slowly falling off charts.
GHWT Wii is on top.
COD Wii not charting.
NFS seems like its going to bomb.
360 has most titles in chart (Individual)

Hmm.........

Wii Music survives another week.

Oh, the potential for crow and lulz has never been greater.

Some should have learned a long time ago wii games opening week means hardly much in relation to staying power.

Anyone who wrote off Wii Music after the first 2 days of sales was asking for trouble. Casual titles are not front loaded (glances at Lich King) and Nintendo aren't going to let it drop off the charts and die, it will have legs over Christmas and no doubt beyond that as well.

Hate the advert though, part of me wants a piano to fall through the ceiling and crush that smiling, midi-playing family. :/

edit: oh yeah, if The Last Remnant doesn't chart this week then MS have spent a hell of a lot of advertising revenue that could have been used elsewhere (Banjo springs to mind...as well as Gears 2!). I've lost count how many times I've seen it over the past few days.

This is week 3 for LBP. Neither Tomb Raider nor Lips even reached top 10. LBP hit #4 in first week. How you can put them in the same category is beyond me.

As for LBP, I'm :| that it's down again, but it's not as down as I thought it'd be. It dropped less this week in both the UK and Ireland compared to last week.

I see it as a bomb because it is the second most hyped up PS3 game this year, only behind MGS4, and people predicted it would sell several million copies.

Just like you love seeing 360 and Wii games falling on the charts?

Seiken said:

It depends on wheater or not the PS3 takes off among the casual crowd. The PS3 fanbase right now is mostly shooting/racing/sports fans. They need to get casuals on board if they want LBP to sell more. But it seems like time is running out as it falls on all charts.

I don't even remember Motorstorm 2 charting and I didn't even know Loco Roco 2 was coming out. :lol

Tomb Raider Underworld is surprising, I think the PS3 version is on offer in Argos though?

Left 4 Dead needs to be higher.

I don't believe World at War can stop the Wii onslaught, I believe you might see a Nintendo top ten for Christmas.

Did they release the Wii version of WAW over in EU??

Its worth noting its in stock nowhere, the game isn't displayed on the "COD5" section of Game's website and when you do find it, its listed out of stock. The same is true on play.com too.

LBP sales are disappointing it was heavily was discounted last week, most places were selling for under £30.

Clearly Sony are relining on word of mouth for sales, that means the hardcore who bought it have to keep playing it and talking about it.

Lips is a party game, people buy it when they have a party or as a present, like singstar it will be a long term seller, people play it at a party and then buy it themselves

Whatever.

Clearly I don't want LBP to fall on the charts since the game is most likely this year's, along with Wii Fit, the most important game for the industry. If you hate games, then you should probably hope the title bombs worse then hell.

My point is just that it doesn't seem like LBP will stay long on the charts. It's sinking pretty fast both in Japan and in European countries, and it will shock me if we see it in the top 10 of November NPD.

Possibly. Can't it be a combination of both?

I wonder if the demo actually hindered the 360 version?

I dont think having Fable, COD5 and Gears released in near proximity helped either

I'm disappointed also, it deserves so much more attention by the general consumer than it's getting tbh, I was hoping the game would have some legs but I'm having my doubts now :-(.

I know how you feel. Wii Music really deserves more of a chance from the general and hardcore consumer.

I just think this is one of the most crowded i've ever seen the charts. Even with the holidays in mind seeing as last year everything still seemed spaced out. There's just a whole lot of games competing here. You have first party showcases, 3rd party showcases, quick cash-in games and re-entries all over the place. Nevermind factoring in platform vs platform etc amongst all that.

Also i'm guessing Nfs won't be getting this years christmas no1 spot... then again you never know.
