Microsoft call full time on Pro Evolution Soccer 2009’s one-week stay at the top as ‘Fable II’ is crowned this week’s All Formats No1.

It is Microsoft’s first All Formats No1 since ‘Halo 3’, over a year ago, and is the first game to be developed by Britsoft team Lionhead to reach the top of the All Formats Chart, outselling the original Fable’s launch week by 3.81 to 1. ‘Fable II’ also becomes the 5th fastest selling Xbox 360 game ever in the UK, behind ‘GTA IV’, ‘Halo 3’, ‘FIFA 09’ and ‘Call of Duty 4’. Sales of ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2009’ take a dive this week, falling 58%, dropping from No1 to No4, while sales of ‘FIFA 09’ are down 24%, moving it down one place to No3, making way for Ubisoft’s ‘Far Cry 2’ which debuts at No2. Launched across Xbox 360 (43%), PS3 (33%) and PC (24%) Ubisoft’s critically acclaimed FPS is only one of several new entries to make the All Formats Top 10 with EA’s ‘Dead Space’ at No6 and Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘Midnight Club: Los Angeles’ at No10. ‘Saints Row 2’ also makes way for the newcomers, dropping 2 places to No5, while ‘Lego Batman’ is down 3 places to No7, staying ahead of ‘Wii Fit’ and ‘Mario Kart Wii’, both down 3 places to No’s 8 and 9 respectively.

After several periods of Nintendo dominance, which saw only 2 weeks ago Wii representing the top selling format for 6 games in the All Formats Top 10, Microsoft now claim the best selling version of 5 out of the Top 6 games in the All Formats Chart. Benefiting from a retailer hardware bundle, ‘Family Ski’ from Namco-Bandai/Nintendo enters the All Formats Top 40 for the first time since its launch 19 weeks ago at No28. The remaining new entries in the All Formats Top 40 are ‘Moto GP 08’ from Capcom at No32 and Activsion’s ‘Spider-Man: Web of Shadows’ at No38.

Go Fable 2!
04 (01) PS3 Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 (Konami)
05 (02) 360 Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 (Konami)

09 (05) 360 Fifa 09 (Electronic Arts)
15 (06) PS3 Fifa 09 (Electronic Arts)
Weird shit.

And I expected much better from Dead Space, particularly on PS3 where there was far less competition this week.

Good ranking for Farcry 2 for both platforms.

Awesome, Fable 2 deserves it. My local Asda was sold out Saturday morning, and Sainsbury's offer seems to have them flying off the shelves. Shame there is no demo but hopefully word of mouth and reviews will bring in lots more sales.

Dead Space not debuting too high, I can only guess that Fable 2 and Far Cry 2 took away sales from a new IP. Its definitely a game I'm interested in but with the release calendar looking as it does.... I'm not sure when that will be :(

outselling the original Fable’s launch week by 3.81 to 1.

Shit balls....:0

Fable 2 outsold the original's launched week? I wonder if it will hold out as long as the original too, anyway good job lionhead.

Indeed, if Fable 2 didn't exist, I would definitely have picked up Dead Space on Friday. I will definitely still get it at some point though. I should imagine DS will have legs actually.

EDIT: Still can't believe Fable 2 has done so well. I was worried that the market just wasn't there for games like that anymore. Thank the heavens I was wrong. And it seems the market is 3.81:1 bigger than it was in 2004! This is a great day.

The actual sales difference between the two is likely negligible, but was anyone expecting this?
Well, it's a popular game from the PS2 days. The original was a PS2 launch title. Add this to the vacuum that was Fable 2, and it doesn't surprise me.

Yep, it was between Fable 2 and Dead Space last week as well I was initially being drawn to Dead Space but after the F2 reviews hit and reading the impressions from the US crowd who had their hands on the game I knew it was something I'd have to get.

Having put in over 30 hours and counting I'm pretty sure I made the right choice. My game of the year (thus far)

Fable 2 sales are well deserved, awesome game. How many copies the first game sold ? Wasn't it almost 3 million copies or at least 2.5 million (xbox+pc) ? Anyway good game Lionhead.

Fable II: ~ 115.000 - 140.000

Week one fastest sellers 360:
1.) Grand Theft Auto IV 360 (514.000)
2.) Halo 3 360 (411.000)
3.) FIFA 09 360 (201.000)
4.) Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 360 (~140.000)
5.) Fable II 360 (~115.000 - 140.000)
6.) Assassin's Creed 360 (~115.000)

Star Ocean barely makes it (#10) on the PSP Full-price chart. Damn, Square-Enix on a really bad row in UK. Astounding that Infinite Undiscovery did the best and by far from FF4, DQ4, SO1 and IU.

Two days.

THAT CAME OUT FRIDAY?! I had no idea whatsoever and I visited TWO GAME stores on Saturday. Didn't even see a placeholder box on the shelves.

...talking of which, I was talking to the sales assistant at the second GAME store about her Mario Kart Wii tag still around her neck despite it already being out for who knows how many months. "I know it's already out, but it's been so popular they keep telling us to push it. It's doing my head in." were her words.

Also I saw a few "copies" of Rock Band floating around the many shoppers of Southampton that day (if you can call them copies, the boxes are large enough to carry small children or dogs in!), though I couldn't tell which version they were.

I wonder where Gears of War 2 will slip into that little chart. :/
I'm gonna go for No. 3

Holy crap at the 360 domination! Nice to see a change of pace.

Seems like the holiday slaughter has already begun. Congrats to lionhead, hopefully this sequel vastly outsells the original (which was an incredible game).

That said, I went with Dead Space because I'm a horror junkie. 6 chapters in and I'm starting to regret that decision :( This game really feels longer than it needs to be.

Expecting that it ranked so low, or that it ranked less low on the Ps3?
The less low. Third multi-plat to launch higher on PS3 after Burnout and Pro Evo in the UK?

(I really don't keep up with these threads)

Awesome for Fable II, well deserved indeed. Anyhow, that is one heck of a week for the Top 10 and 360. Six out of 10, very nice.

Can't believe how much better it has done out the gate this go around as well. Well no, actually I can it is just one of the best RPGs this gen imho.

Wait, what happened to Saints Row 2 in the Netherlands? Did THQ mess up shipments or what?

Probably released on Friday. NL Charts stop on thursdays.

Can't post the weighted charts, sorry folks. My comp died an hour ago :|

Fable 1 sold between 100k and 200k LTD in UK.

I'd like to know if PES 2009 is holding out ok in LTD against Fifa 09. Any info on that? At least just in the UK or something.

Great sales for the PC version!
What happened? Did being a PC franchise help, or is PC gaining popularity?

:lol

So France is Sonyland now because more games launched on PS3 than Wii that week?

The world is Nintendoland because its games and systems sell dominantly year-round. One week doesn't change anything.

Actually all versions did good.
Yeah, but 360 and PS3 are a given. Every decent shooter seems to find success there. The PC being on par with the console versions, however, is not usual.

Congrats to Lionhead.

When all is said and done, Fable II should exceed the LTD of the original by a decent margin.
