It makes me sick thinking of how many copies of FIFA will sell next week.

Is it worth getting?

I'm kinda torn between FIFA 09 and PES 2009.
It'll be the first soccer game I've played in years and dont really want to get both.

Handy Release Dates Link has a few other non-important titles on it, I use it in conjunction with the GamePlay one I think was used this week to weed out the games that aren't shipping but are stuck in the schedules.

Online seems to have the preorders for the Fifa Juggernaut at X360>PS3>PS2>PC>PSP>Wii>>>DS. I expect that Wii will overtake PSP & PC in the real world for week one, but football is popular with the teenage boys market that seem to be the core PSP users in the UK.

Brave: A Warrior's Tale brings players expansive exploration and in-game interactivity on their quest to protect their tribe from the sources of evil, continuously offering a significant challenge to players as they advance through a world of untamed wilderness. Embracing his inner spirit, Brave is able to communicate as well as embody various animals and battle enemies that stand in his way.

Brave: A Warrior's Tale is loaded with updated features and unlockable content which can be earned throughout the game. The game has been revamped visually and mechanically and features an exciting storyline that will grab hold of players and never let go.

Unstoppable Force

29/Sep/2008
The top 3 games in the All Formats Chart remain the same for a second week as Lucasarts’ ‘Star Wars: The Force Unleashed’ holds on to No1 despite a 38% drop in sales.

Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit’ at No2 is continuing to shape up nicely, registering its 3rd largest sales week ever with a 75% rise in sales, while ‘Mario Kart Wii’ is a non-mover at No3 (sales up 26%). Ubisoft’s ‘Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway’ enters the battlefield at No4, only 2,250 sales behind Nintendo (65% of sales on Xbox 360, 35% on PS3), while Disney Interactive Studios has this weeks only other All Formats Top 10 new entry with ‘Pure’ at No8. This week last year there were 4 All Formats Top 10 new entries, including ‘Halo 3’ at No1 and ‘FIFA 08’ at No2. EA only have one Top 10 game this week with ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09’ down one place at No5, as ‘Mercenaries 2: World in Flames’ drops from No6 to No11, however ‘FIFA 09’ should kick start things for the big US publisher when it is launched next week. The ‘Wii Fit’ influenced game ‘Family Trainer’ from Namco-Bandai/Atari debuts at No20, proving that even with renewed stock of the Nintendo original, there is a market for similar fitness titles on Wii.

+75% & 3rd highest WiiFit week ever? Ouch. Stock shortages over Xmas are now guaranteed.

Ed:

Looking at the Wii only chart Wario came out first in 14th, Samba at 16 and then De Blob at 20 - not terrible but may get lost in the rush season. The half price G1 Jockey only made it to 41.

DS wise Sonic Chronicles is at 7, Mahjongg is at 23. There is a Drawn To life game at 47, could be either of them. Locke's quest failed to chart.

Halo 3 also re-entered, price cuts attracting new blood I should think!

And in the week that Gardening Mama was announced Cooking Mama 2 is STILL in the top 40...

Ed2: Chart list removed as there is better below!

Wow lots of bombs this week. Wario, Samba and de Blob not doing very well at all in their first week and I'm not sure we're going to see much imprtovements...

Samba was advertised a lot. I've seen a good 3/4 and I hardly watch much TV.

Samba will rise a lot over the next few weeks - other 2 not so much. I expect Wario to hang around the lower reaches though.

SW:FU performing well on all 3 formats. Even though the Wii version dropped only 1 place, the HD counterparts are still holding onto top spots. 360 should end up with the biggest LTD, but it'll be interesting to see if the PS3 or Wii version comes second.

Massive difference between the PS3/360 versions of Pure....quite strange, especially since both versions of the game had a lower RRP than majority of new titles.

What competition on the X360 does it have? Motorstorm ate it's PS3 sales I'd say.

About WiiFit, what else can be said. Its success cement wii's domination for years to come.

:lol If Pure was exclusive you'd be saying something entirely different.

They're both completely different games. One is SSX on ATVs, the other is Road Rash on mud.

Funny (sad) thing about the chart is that despite Pure difference it could be closer percentage-wise than Brothers in Arms, but we'll never know. Same with Star Wars, 3 top versions went down, PS2 version went up...but who knows how they did compared to previous week, the percentages could tell many different pictures and we wouldn't still know shit. At least we have the awards but man its annoying.

At least we can look at overall tops for new games, shame about Locks Quest, surprised at Family Trainer > Wario > Samba > de Blob. I've actually seen de Blob ads here...

Motorstorm is Rockband. Pure is Wii Music. Nothing wrong there, I like Wii Music. I just prefer realistic physics in my racing games.

It's just the 360 userbase making the difference. For the big launch they are close, but then you move down the list, and you see the 360 userbase pulling it's weight in other releases.

And halo 3 on the charts out of nowhere? A bundle?

That is true, when I made the post I suddenly thought "For all I know, there could be a grand total of 23 copies separating the two versions". :lol

If Motorstorm explains Pure, shouldn't something like Halo reduce the sales of other FPS on the 360? When in fact we see the opposite: Halo has turned the 360 in to the "shooterbox," and games like Rainbow Six and Battlefield: Bad Company have sold profoundly better on the 360 than on the PS3, even considering the user base. Or how about Platformers? The Wii has Mario Galaxy, but Crash Bandicoot and Spyro sell significantly better on the Wii than they do any other system this generation. I think one might argue that Mario helps the sales of other platformers on the system.

In other words, I see this excuse work both ways, and I've seen this applied for every system. If a game doesn't do well on Platform [X], and there is little competition, it's because the audience isn't there. If a game doesn't do well on Platform [X], but there IS competition, it's because the competition stifled it.

There doesn't seem to be a pattern, and every bomb can be explained away in this manner.

Probably people rebuying Halo 3 for the expansion.

Motorstorm is one of the biggest selling PS3 games and I can't see that many PS3 owners needing a 2nd new franchise off road racer on dayone.

X360 owners that saw all the Motorstorm ads & praise and might be tempted to buy the first similar game on their console.

All I asked was does X360 have viable competition in the off road 'dirty' motor-sport genre that the PS3 has with the high-profile choice of Motorstorm? I'm not sure it does (ATV Vs BMX or something I remember from way back).

And for the record - played both, disliked both (Motorstorm & Pure that is).

FWIW, I can't find Wario anywhere - as in every damn shop I go into tells me they never received it, in spite of it supposedly releasing last Friday.

Samba is getting a reasonable push in Woolies - posters, displays etc. - and de Blob is getting a prominent position in the Wii section in Tesco and Morrisons.

Holiday weekend but I think it might be for Scotland only. October holidays start in 2 weeks though :D .
Damn kids, buying games 2 weeks in advance... The wait must kill them, since they can't play during the school weeks.

Some crazy shit in the UK:

£600,000 ($1.1 million) worth of PlayStation 3 games are missing in the UK after being stolen twice -- first from their shipping driver, and then again from the Leeds police's "secure" depot.

Gamasutra said:
The stolen games are comprised of seven shipping pallets, including Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV and 16,000 units of Ubisoft's Brothers In Arms: Hell’s Highway

I don't even watch that much TV, but holy fuck have I seen a lot of 360 ads this week.
I'm yet to see one... but then unless they put them in the ads for F1 on the weekend that's not surprising. :lol

Where do you live?

Here in the UK I've only seen a couple despite MS's "biggest marketing campaign ever" press release.

Ironically, I've seen Nintendo's Samba de Amigo ad a fucking MILLION times. And yes, I know it's a SEGA game, but it's a Nintendo advert.

Motorstorm is one of the biggest selling PS3 games and I can't see that many PS3 owners needing a 2nd new franchise off road racer on dayone.

X360 owners that saw all the Motorstorm ads & praise and might be tempted to buy the first similar game on their console.

Again, I don't think this logic is inherently invalid, but look at games like Halo, which are even bigger than Motorstorm -- yet it if anything, it seems to drive similar games to larger sales, not smaller ones. Why does Mario Galaxy not crush games like Spyro and Crash? Why are all the minigame clones doing so well in the wake of the juggernaughts Wii Sports and Wii Play?

You can always come up with an explanation or rationalization of some kind, and in this case, we've actually set it up so that virtually every flop could be explained away using this method: if a flopped game has competition, then it was crushed by the competition; if a flopped game doesn't have competition, then the audience doesn't exist for that type of game on that system, so of course it didn't sell.

I think we should just say [game x] flopped, and leave it at that, then do larger scale analysis with a multitidue of titles when we can, rather than individual ones. It's like plotting with a single data point. And just to make sure everyone knows, I'm not really sure Pure "flopped," on the PS3. It just did significantly less well than the 360 version in the first week. Most of what I said above is intended to apply more generally and not just to Pure/Motorstorm in particular.

Those UK charts are like some kind of freaky fucking horror story.

Really, UK? Really?

Have they ever been any better though. I've heard the same comments for years. Remember when the same old EA tat and whatnot engulfed the charts? Now it's just someone else's tat!
